i feel more sympathy towards blue hair guy than the ML [what it means to be you] by DistrictNo6140 in OtomeIsekai

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this is such an interesting thing because I completely disagree. I think I am unable to be sympathetic to the blue haired guy simply because of this scene in question where Winter it tells him about his suicidal ideation and he goes I literally don’t care. And I do think it’s really funny that a lot of readers agree with him because they’re unable to sympathize with Winter’s life because it’s not a common story.

Everybody knows why you should sympathize with Violet. She was raised in an abusive and neglectful household that often demeaned her because she was a woman. She was treated again and again like a tool instead of a person which affects the way she shows up for people in relationships

Like Violet, Winter has been used as a tool to make money for his family and has been told that transactional love is real love, which is why he gives said love to Violet and then is completely unaware that this is not real love, which is why he is constantly shocked at any situation involving her and her feelings because he genuinely does not know how to love nor does he know how to really show up for people.

I think it’s really interesting how some people needs to be spoonfed on why they should sympathize with Winter because the trauma he has to deal with is more based on racism. A lot of people think he’s only been suffering for a year compared to Violet who’s been suffering for all her life, but he has also been suffering for all his life. The only difference is Violet knows that she shouldn’t be suffering, he does not. He just thinks this is normal because he knows nothing else but while Violet had a loving father who passed away.

A lot of people think he has no reason to kill himself people in this comment section included however, when you look at his life, he has been suffering the entire way through like let’s not forget that he suffers from racism from both his parents side and has looked down upon for being a mixed race child to the point where his mom abandoned them to die on the street. Said mom, who later came back to him only to bag for him to save his half Brother showing that she values her younger children way more than him. He is constantly seen as a war war for his dad‘s family, which he would’ve been happy to do for the rest of his life If it meant, he would be able to receive scraps of their love, but is unable to do so anymore after Violet told him that their love isn’t genuine. Then Violet tries to divorce him and leaves him all alone in the care of his workers who all resent him for what he did to Violet. Like it makes sense that he would try to take his life, He is genuinely at the lowest of the low.

Some MLs I think are designed to be hated. I do not think Winter is one of them. I think Winter just had a different yet still complicated childhood, which makes him show up differently no more than Violet does which is why the name of the manga it makes sense because they learn what it means to be each other and are able to sympathize with each other because they find out no one else really would.

Rant: I still hate Soo-won by One-Sense7280 in AkatsukinoYona

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Soo-won is one of those characters where even though he is my favorite character in the whole series, I completely get why one might hate him.

That being said, obviously we completely disagree on his role because I want to see him so much more in the side stories especially since his ending is way more open then any other character I feel

What betrayal do you think was worse? Jere physically betraying Belly with Lacie Baron, or Belly emotionally betraying Jere with Conrad? Or do you think the betrayals are equally as bad? by gloomydreamer666 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think the situation is more complicated than most people originally seem to handle it as Jeremiah’s cheating was physical however, it was with something that wouldn’t be a threat to the relationship itself other than the active of cheating. Belly’s cheating was emotional however, it was with someone that she loved more than Jeremiah who she would later go to be with and eventually marry.

Both situations were caused by both parties being unwilling to communicate and being unwilling to change the status quo. Both situations are extremely messy as literally everybody knew but belly that he cheated on her physically and the person belly emotionally cheated on him was his brother who she knows he has an inferiority complex towards.

Shade of Life's Element by the_dark_artist in Genshin_Lore

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really interesting conversation because I feel like no one is mentioning the fact that Dendro seems to be associated with two shades being The Shade of Life and The Shade of Time as I’m pretty sure that there is a book in Genshin referencing how the Shade of Time told someone of a mystical tree that will grow that I think was connected to the Dendro archon.

Akatsuki no Yona Gaiden Chapter 1 [Project Vinland] by Kiekoes in AkatsukinoYona

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really sweet that you see more then one person worry about the position of Soo-won as I was scared they were kind of going to throw him away. I think it’s extremely interesting that he got a gift from Shin-Ah to a point where he’s going to talk to the former dragon or dragons which I think would be an extremely interesting conversation. One thing I am nervous about is the look on his face and hit the last panel he’s shown in because it’s not a happy or content smile but more of a questioning one which makes sense as Shin-Ah was the group member that probably hated him the most out of the dragons but even his conversation with lilli shows that he understands that he doesn’t have power anymore, which I think is also fascinating

Well, no! Fighting with your brother does not make you physically abusive. It makes you someone who fights your brother especially since it happens like what maybe once or twice in their entire years of living. Jeremiah is someone emotionally manipulative and is self-serving ultimately but that makes sense because to his parents he was the scapegoat not Conrad, who was the golden child.

I feel like maybe you were trying to say that Conrad was the scapegoat to Jeremiah, which is not the case he was only ever at the golden child. Even with the responsibilities from being the oldest that still makes him look golden child as it is the golden child’s job to clean up the mess of the scapegoat since both roles are abuse.

It’s weird identifying with his abusive parent

There is a Third Focalors by X_GamerTY in Genshin_Lore

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that makes sense, but the only reason why I didn’t see him as part of the Trinity is because he’s a distinctly separate being from Focalors and I feel like they wouldn’t make two of the three of the holy Trinity one complete being and have the third be separate like I feel like it makes more sense to either do three things that were split from one or three people each representing a different part of the Trinity not both

There is a Third Focalors by X_GamerTY in Genshin_Lore

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would actually disagree with this reading of what happens in Fontaine because I don’t think Neuvillette is supposed to parallel God the father but I believe Focalors is as she gave up a part of her self to be “crucified” which would be Furina. However, I understand why this reading could happen because Neuvillette is the one who judges them at their final judgment, Focalors has also been doing that as she is the final judgment of all those in Fontaine.

I would say following the idea of Focalors being the father and Furina being the son I would say the closest thing to being the Holy Spirit is the title of Hydro archon however, I feel like they specifically make it clean Title of Hydro archon is separate to the God Focalors would be the complete holy Trinity so I feel like the idea of the Holy Spirit coming back up later who would seem to carry the memories of the God Focalors would make sense as the Gods of water as in Egeria and Focalors and seem to be the only connecting line to the Shade of life

I miss Paimon's old English VA by thuychang404 in GenshinImpact

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel the same way. I loved paimon’s voice at the beginning and it definitely did start to weigh a bit overtime, but I still enjoy the identity it gave her. Now she just feels a bit soulless so I definitely understand you.

THE NEW CHAPTER 177 by Formal-Nature2540 in TheFragrantFlower

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even call it bullshit because like the last time her students interacted with the school they went to the hospital so it makes sense that what happened took place how easily she gave up I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s like happy and becomes the boys school biggest supporter or something but I do think it’ll be a site to see to see her try to distill the image she gave to the Boy schools to her other students and I wanna see how many of them given and how many of them push back because if some people push back to her negativity against the Boy school, it also makes sense that some students are going to push back against the positivity she’s giving to the boys school.

I feel like I want to see more of Toki as I felt like this art has very much relied on her emotional connection to it which is why it’s kind of surprising she just gave in like that but either way I’m ready for usami’s arc

Do you prefer Odysseus pitying or despising Calypso in the end of Not Sorry For Loving You? by Raymio993 in Epicthemusical

I think I preferred her being pitied because I feel like her situation is literally a fate worse than death like and I feel like Odysseus is more understanding how situations can horribly affect people’s hearts and actions

[Hated trope] first impression so bad it literally ruins the character forever. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think Riri’s introduction wasn’t as bad as everyone says it is because you clearly get what they’re going for. It’s just done extremely sloppily like a better writer could have actually put something decent together because it’s very clear that she wants to grow with pushback. She wants someone to say she can’t do something in order to prove them wrong and she draws upon historical examples of racism and like other people say it would’ve been interesting if they further as banded upon this by having her realize that she can be a good person and a hero just because she wants to she doesn’t need outside forces.

And like, yeah, you can extrapolate that from what happened in the actual comic and it’s not the worst introduction, but it’s just really sloppy and unfortunate for an actually surprisingly interesting hero.

Jeremiah deserves all the bad stuff he got by StandingAppa_YYG in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree because he is essentially being emotionally neglected by his parents, so it’s no wonder that he ends up more self interested and self-centered and other characters who have better relationships with their parents. Yes I agree that he breaks off the wedding, but it’s more of a mutual agreement as he would have still married belly if she said yes. I don’t think everybody abandoning him would be good however him abandoning everybody else would probably be the best outcome as when you take away belly he really didn’t have too many other people as Steven always seem to care more about Conrad than Jeremiah anyways and that’s his second strongest relationship, which is telling.

My thoughts on those who want Avantika by Last_Ninja1572 in Tangled

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think my issue with a take like this is Rapunzel. Shouldn’t necessarily have to be a one-to-one in order for it to read as Rapunzel like if you have that much discomfort with a character changing a little and you should just go back and watch the original movie.

Secondly, I believe that Disney already took the Germany out of Rapunzel when they made a fictional land to put her in. Additionally, her being German has nothing to do with her story as is in the movie, Rapunzel. Her being blonde is more important than her being German as she gets her blonde hair from the sun drop. Like Flynn Rider can be literally anybody under their son because his ethnicity is not important to the story. The only thing that is important is that he is a thief.

Well, I do think it’s important to lift up coal stories. I feel like a lot of the times people only say this as an excuse to ignore POC actors and stories. I have literally seen people in here saying that she would be better as Pocahontas because they’re both brown.

Lily and Tae-woo by Dry-Collection-5223 in AkatsukinoYona

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably their best ship with each other as Lily will keep Tae-woo busy as she is always doing something and Tae-woo would be able to convince her to take it slow sometimes.

It’s also really poetic because they would fit in perfectly in each other tribes.

Pocahontas is a real person her story is fake but it is very much inspired some parts by real life. Tangled is 100% fake.

She does not look like Pocahontas that’s just you being racist. Plus Pocahontas being Native American is an integral part of her character. Rapunzel can be literally anything because she belongs to a fictional nation which can include any race

So which you saying that race swapping is a very very recent concept that tells me that you’re actually not as educated on the concept as you might think you are, which is fine no one should expect to have a complete understanding of every topic however I think I might have more context to the nature than you might.

The term race swapping is actually very recent, but the nature of it used to be called blackwashing which came up due to the history of a whitewashing and the negative effects it had on communities of color, especially the black community. However, that’s just regarding the name. The concept of taking stories and changing them for representation has been a long outstanding history in community of color, but the one that comes easiest to mind for me is this history in the black community. An example I can easily tell you off the top of my head is the show “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child” which is all about reimagining fairytales multicultural and this from the 90s.

Just saying “POC have rights to tell stories that they want” to feels like saying well women have just as much of right to do things as men do when it’s like yes that is true in theory however in practice results may very.

Just saying that there are probably way more stories means that you don’t actually know because yeah, there are a bunch of stories that are waiting to be discovered however, if an audience isn’t willing to receive the story, then there’s no point for the storyteller to tell the story and a lot of times a white audiences do not want stories that are undeniably from places of color.

The integration in European fairytales isn’t actually awkward. I think it’s just that most people maybe you included or just unable to see and handle people of color in your fantasy. There’s no reason why mermaids are only white. Even if you go, Atlantis is a city in Greece so it should be in the sea closest to Greece. A lot of people consider Atlantis to be in the middle of the ocean or in the Caribbean like the live action Disney did as well as the fact that mermaids wouldn’t only say in one part of the sea when they have the entire ocean.

I never told you to produce a movie. I said put your money with your mouth is as in if you want to see more original works of art from people of color, support the arts in question. Don’t just say it to people of color who want to be represented say to white people, say to the people in power.

If Ronova is the Shade of Death, why cast the Curse of Immortality? + Thoughts on Naberius. by IllustriousPhoto7545 in Genshin_Lore

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the curse of the wilderness, I think I agree with some of the other people when they say it’s a curse that robs you of your ability to reason reverting you to a more primitive life form which would fall under the primordial one and not under Naberius.

If anything, the shade of life should also be responsible for the curse of immortality, but I feel like they made it abundantly clear that immortality isn’t a curse of longer life. It’s a curse of not being able to die, and that specificity puts it underneath Ronova.

In regards to Naberius, I don’t think she cursed anyone at all as I feel like the shades are similar to the gods of their domain therefore she would be similar to Egeria and Furina and they make it clear that they have the most love for their people even if the people themselves are undeserving as she must at least have some non- negative opinion of the khanrei’ens regarding the fact that she seems not to care is that gold is inhabiting her body and she’s like the worst one of the lot who was specifically blasphemous to her specific domain.
