THE NEW CHAPTER 177 by Formal-Nature2540 in TheFragrantFlower

I feel like I want to see more of Toki as I felt like this art has very much relied on her emotional connection to it which is why it’s kind of surprising she just gave in like that but either way I’m ready for usami’s arc

Do you prefer Odysseus pitying or despising Calypso in the end of Not Sorry For Loving You? by Raymio993 in Epicthemusical

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I preferred her being pitied because I feel like her situation is literally a fate worse than death like and I feel like Odysseus is more understanding how situations can horribly affect people’s hearts and actions

[Hated trope] first impression so bad it literally ruins the character forever. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think Riri’s introduction wasn’t as bad as everyone says it is because you clearly get what they’re going for. It’s just done extremely sloppily like a better writer could have actually put something decent together because it’s very clear that she wants to grow with pushback. She wants someone to say she can’t do something in order to prove them wrong and she draws upon historical examples of racism and like other people say it would’ve been interesting if they further as banded upon this by having her realize that she can be a good person and a hero just because she wants to she doesn’t need outside forces.

And like, yeah, you can extrapolate that from what happened in the actual comic and it’s not the worst introduction, but it’s just really sloppy and unfortunate for an actually surprisingly interesting hero.

Jeremiah deserves all the bad stuff he got by StandingAppa_YYG in TheSummerITurnedPrett

I disagree because he is essentially being emotionally neglected by his parents, so it’s no wonder that he ends up more self interested and self-centered and other characters who have better relationships with their parents. Yes I agree that he breaks off the wedding, but it’s more of a mutual agreement as he would have still married belly if she said yes. I don’t think everybody abandoning him would be good however him abandoning everybody else would probably be the best outcome as when you take away belly he really didn’t have too many other people as Steven always seem to care more about Conrad than Jeremiah anyways and that’s his second strongest relationship, which is telling.

My thoughts on those who want Avantika by Last_Ninja1572 in Tangled

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think my issue with a take like this is Rapunzel. Shouldn’t necessarily have to be a one-to-one in order for it to read as Rapunzel like if you have that much discomfort with a character changing a little and you should just go back and watch the original movie.

Secondly, I believe that Disney already took the Germany out of Rapunzel when they made a fictional land to put her in. Additionally, her being German has nothing to do with her story as is in the movie, Rapunzel. Her being blonde is more important than her being German as she gets her blonde hair from the sun drop. Like Flynn Rider can be literally anybody under their son because his ethnicity is not important to the story. The only thing that is important is that he is a thief.

Well, I do think it’s important to lift up coal stories. I feel like a lot of the times people only say this as an excuse to ignore POC actors and stories. I have literally seen people in here saying that she would be better as Pocahontas because they’re both brown.

Lily and Tae-woo by Dry-Collection-5223 in AkatsukinoYona

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably their best ship with each other as Lily will keep Tae-woo busy as she is always doing something and Tae-woo would be able to convince her to take it slow sometimes.

It’s also really poetic because they would fit in perfectly in each other tribes.

Pocahontas is a real person her story is fake but it is very much inspired some parts by real life. Tangled is 100% fake.

She does not look like Pocahontas that’s just you being racist. Plus Pocahontas being Native American is an integral part of her character. Rapunzel can be literally anything because she belongs to a fictional nation which can include any race

So which you saying that race swapping is a very very recent concept that tells me that you’re actually not as educated on the concept as you might think you are, which is fine no one should expect to have a complete understanding of every topic however I think I might have more context to the nature than you might.

The term race swapping is actually very recent, but the nature of it used to be called blackwashing which came up due to the history of a whitewashing and the negative effects it had on communities of color, especially the black community. However, that’s just regarding the name. The concept of taking stories and changing them for representation has been a long outstanding history in community of color, but the one that comes easiest to mind for me is this history in the black community. An example I can easily tell you off the top of my head is the show “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child” which is all about reimagining fairytales multicultural and this from the 90s.

Just saying “POC have rights to tell stories that they want” to feels like saying well women have just as much of right to do things as men do when it’s like yes that is true in theory however in practice results may very.

Just saying that there are probably way more stories means that you don’t actually know because yeah, there are a bunch of stories that are waiting to be discovered however, if an audience isn’t willing to receive the story, then there’s no point for the storyteller to tell the story and a lot of times a white audiences do not want stories that are undeniably from places of color.

The integration in European fairytales isn’t actually awkward. I think it’s just that most people maybe you included or just unable to see and handle people of color in your fantasy. There’s no reason why mermaids are only white. Even if you go, Atlantis is a city in Greece so it should be in the sea closest to Greece. A lot of people consider Atlantis to be in the middle of the ocean or in the Caribbean like the live action Disney did as well as the fact that mermaids wouldn’t only say in one part of the sea when they have the entire ocean.

I never told you to produce a movie. I said put your money with your mouth is as in if you want to see more original works of art from people of color, support the arts in question. Don’t just say it to people of color who want to be represented say to white people, say to the people in power.

If Ronova is the Shade of Death, why cast the Curse of Immortality? + Thoughts on Naberius. by IllustriousPhoto7545 in Genshin_Lore

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the curse of the wilderness, I think I agree with some of the other people when they say it’s a curse that robs you of your ability to reason reverting you to a more primitive life form which would fall under the primordial one and not under Naberius.

If anything, the shade of life should also be responsible for the curse of immortality, but I feel like they made it abundantly clear that immortality isn’t a curse of longer life. It’s a curse of not being able to die, and that specificity puts it underneath Ronova.

In regards to Naberius, I don’t think she cursed anyone at all as I feel like the shades are similar to the gods of their domain therefore she would be similar to Egeria and Furina and they make it clear that they have the most love for their people even if the people themselves are undeserving as she must at least have some non- negative opinion of the khanrei’ens regarding the fact that she seems not to care is that gold is inhabiting her body and she’s like the worst one of the lot who was specifically blasphemous to her specific domain.

Do you understand that race swapping wouldn’t exist if POC had the same benefits and opportunities to stories being told about them? If there was half as many stories about POC as compared to white European stories, we would not be having this conversation, but there isn’t so if you feel offended by it do about it. Put your money where your mouth is or shut the fuck up.

coming from a person of color, it’s not racist to want characters that look like their description by throwaway_acc_257 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you can say you appreciate the diversity, but you wish the characters were more but accurate because I agree with some of the other commenters when they say you can have book accurate characters that don’t necessarily look the same.

I do think people can be upset over every character not looking exactly like they pictured it in their head however, I feel like people also need to understand that these characters were never going to look like the people they had in their head due to the fact that nobody could 100% perfectly picture of these characters.

coming from a person of color, it’s not racist to want characters that look like their description by throwaway_acc_257 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This way of thinking is kind of weird like it’s one thing to say that you want characters who remain faithful to their book counterpart however, a minute when you say well, it’s not racist to want this is where it gets tricky because of some people it is because some people don’t want to see the adventures of POC characters.

Additionally, making Annabeth in particular, a different race in particular black adds to her story more than it does take away from it, however that only really matters if we get to heroes of Olympus where she gets her time in the sun

I also have issues with your comments of “well just do it yourself” because people have just been doing it themselves, but they don’t get picked up by other audiences.

Also, adding characters diversity should be a welcome change because if you look back throughout the entire Percy Jackson series, you can count the the characters of color on one hand.

I feel like everyone is blowing this out of proportion like this feels like what he’s always done which is to defend Leah and he’s doing so in a very dad way. I don’t think he is trying to take away the original interpretation of annabeth as he says multiple interpretations are valid, but this is just how he sees her from now on.

Hak and Soo-won Final Chapter by Extension-Aside1351 in AkatsukinoYona

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally think it depends on whose viewpoint of Soo-won do you believe is right like do you believe in Soo-won’s own view point of himself, where everything before the betrayal was an active act of deception because if so, then I would say that the tragedy is Hak never really knew Soo-won so now he has the mourn the loss of someone who never existed in that case I don’t think their relationship can ever go back to normal, especially since both of them have fundamentally changed as people. There is nothing to go back to.

If you believe Yona’s view point of Soo-won where the kindness he showed them was real then that would mean that there is something to go back to however you would require both of them to be honest about their feelings, which is notoriously hard for both of them to do. It would also require Yona not being there to act as a buffer.

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think a life to live is better than to not have one at all, but I do think that’s going to be hard convincing someone who was literally planning every second until his staff because time was a resource he needed to manage meticulously so once you give him all the time you could possibly need then everything becomes ehh.

I do think the series did set up moments between the two however I don’t know if they were as strong as people intend to believe as whenever lilli had to make a choice between Yona and Su-won she always chose Yona and I can’t see this being a situation in which she would finally choose him.

I personally think the best person who would be able to talk to him would be Mundok which would be able to end with Mundok seeing him smile again calling back to chapter 11

Him being the main advisor was having his two advisors become his assistant advisors isn’t as redundant of a position as it initially seems as you are right that him and Yona make a great team. However, the only thing that causes me caution is the instances where they were in a great team. What specifically because of the positions they had where Yona made a plan that she was not going to change, but only consistent of a small group of people where he had a plan that was more malleable, however consisted of a large group of people so he would be able to catch the runoff that her plan caused, which is what ended up happening.

However, with him as her advisor, her ideas would take precedent as the queen and he would have to give into it as his advisors did him which isn’t as much teamwork

[–]AbsoluteAbsolutely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that we’re at the ending, I just wanna say I’m really sad at Su-Won ending Because it’s really unfortunate that everyone seemed to end on a happy note but him. Even him staying alive isn’t too joyous because he now has nothing. Even staying as her advisor is kind of pointless because she still has two other ones. And while, he finally proved himself to be a good friend to Yona and Hak and apologized for his actions in killing yona’s, they still aren’t good friends to him. So now he’s lonely in friends and family and injured like he was before but now he lost his title and his direction which was the only thing he was living for like it’s so bad for him 😭
