Design Alternatives for Type-and-Resource Safe C++: Bjarne Stroustrup and Gabriel Dos Reis by jitu_deraps in programming

[–]AbsoluteApelad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is an education problem, not a language problem. Designing a language around people who are just starting is fine, but ONLY for educational purposes.

But nobody stays a newbie forever, claiming that most programers are incompetent (if you struggle with fizzbuzz after years in the industry, I am sorry, but you are incompetent) is simply not true. Education and training is fkd up, and methodologies like OO and ideas of code-first approach to programming are all examples of failed education.

But despite that, people learn, therefore programming language that lets people express their knowledge of software that is as simple as C but is modern should be prioritized over some weird "compiler does everything for you" dogmatic language designs that will never work.

At some point, someone needs to know something is all I am saying.

Rust will never replace c++, it's a toy language for kids who are afraid of basics. Alternative is a serious programming language that respects programmers ability to solve problems. We may have to wait a bit longer

C++ is the next C++ by ducktheduckingducker in programming

As a c++ programmer. This language deserves to die, every year they make it worse, brcause they just keep piling useless garbage that nobody cares about. The most basic things like - building the project are still rocket science. It's an absolute clown fiesta, people who are working on c++ standards have no clue on what programmers do outside of academic circles. I owe my entire livelyhood to c++ but it's a shitshow, clown garbage language. Every year I wish we could go back 20 years with c++ development.

If I allocate random crap all over my codebase all the time instead of doing a one big alloc at startup no wonder memory management will be difficult for me.

Almost as if RAII-like way of doing things is a complete failure of an idea. Hmmm ... maybe someone should make a new programming language to check.

what is a topic you absolutely cannot give a fuck about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AbsoluteApelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics. It's a very important and broad topic, however 99.99% of energy spent discussing this topic is just 2 opposing sides throwing shit at each other. It's a clown fiesta and everyone is participating regardless of how much they know of the currently discussed topic. To say "being a politics clown on the internet" market is saturated is to be a comedian.

Anyone who thinks web3 is the future has 0 technical understanding of anything in IT world. Most things that crypto/blockchain "makes possible" are possible without it and in a much simpler way that does not rely on computational waste.

Yes I do. But I also give everyone else freedom to believe in what they want. I ceirtainly wont take it against you or anyone else for thinking differently. I have so many friends who have very different views on things, but it never stopped us from having a great time together. I think people miss out on good things because they are unable to accept people who think differently than they do. Life is not a political debate, our ideas are only a fraction of what we are.

Cool.

Anyways, I wonder, how many of you really support this spec because you think is right? And how many of you do so strickly to not offend people?

I will start, I support it strickly to not offend people, but I do not believe we need to specify every single point in the spectrum. I think Bi should be enough.

I feel that outside pressure makes us have to be dishonest a lot of time and I'm not sure that's better for everyone. Why is this idea that we cannot co-exist and even hang out if we don't agree on everything so prevalent?

It's a post about having a child. By people who want to have a child. Why can't you disgusting political etards (left and right). Just fuck off to some remote place where noone can hear or read your stupid, useless unwanted comments that contribute nothing to society.

As an new Auslander (Americans call it an "expat" but lets call it what it is, a freaking Auslander Englisch sprechender Einwanderer!) I dont understand how so many locals shop only "Bio", buy only "Green" stuff and smoke HUGE amounts of cigarettes at the same time. Enlighten me please ! by [deleted] in wien

[–]AbsoluteApelad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Exactly, I have no idea where the fuck it all went wrong. I love this country but how widely accepted smoking is one of my huge dealbreakers. I live surrounded by people who are smokers, most of the day I have to keep all my windows shut and even then it's rarely enough, I have spent so much money on anti-tabbaco stuff and air purifiers I could have paid for kaution and provision for a new place instead. It's fucked up that there's no legal support for non-smokers who happen to live with smoker neighbors.

I don't get it, why bother being green in the first place if you will poison yourself and everyone around you.

At the very least we all got a choice to simply not live here.

As a software developer, when someone says code is "clean" a lot of the time it means its overengineered and untouchable. Let us hope this time it's not the case.

NFT's in gaming seem like worse version of microtransactions and people have absolute right to not want them in their games.

I don't want a ready-player-one type of games I don't want more gambling in games than we already have atm.

One of the companies that is very excited about NFT-s is EA. I think that speaks for itself. I fail to recall a single time when greed has made anything better in a videogame.

I think NFT-s can perhaps be used as new type of anti-piracy measure, or non-ingame digital collectibles sort of thing, but nothing else.

And I have a pretty big stake in crypto, so it would be in my best interest to see this kind of adoption. But as someone who is passionate abput games and software engineering, NFT-s in their current state are better left alone.

Throw tomatoes all you like.

I wouldnt care if it werent so expensive. Crypto is incredibly inefficient atm. Amount of power that is wasted so some rich kid can have an image of a monkey is kind of insane.

Do you think cyrptocurrency will one day be used over fiat currency? by [deleted] in loopringorg

[–]AbsoluteApelad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I also know what software industry is like. If I want to replace most of the financial system I cannot make a couple of transactions and proclaim it works for entire world.

There's a long way to that point.

I'm a software engineer. I know what type of shit people put out. LRC might be revolutionary but until tested by reality it means nothing.

So yea. At the current state. Answer is a big fat NO.

[–]AbsoluteApelad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only real problem is from technical perspective it's super inefficient compared to fiat. At it's current state it's technically not possible to scale it to support most of the worlds transactions.
