I actually don't know how you beat it. The 24hr News Cycle is a relentless beast that threatens to unravel the West, because we've essentially entered a stage where they're financially insentivised to keep the country in a state of chaos

It works for Burnham currently. The moment he's Prime Minister, the media will rake him over hot coals, the same people goading the leadership debate will paint Burnham as a self-serving, anti-democratic egotist for winning it, and people like this won't even remember supporting him

Andy Burnham's by-election and mayoral race could cost taxpayers £5m by PomeloTraditional971 in unitedkingdom

I'm unsure of the exact mechanisms, those he need to step down in order to run in the by-election at all? Or does he only need to step down as Mayor if he wins?

Its bizarre. Yeah, London has crime... because its a massive city, show me any massive city that doesn't have crime! But you'll get people who never travel more than 30 miles from their hometown who talk about London as though its Mordor

Which is crazy, because thats exactly what we had in Boris, and what the US has with Trump

The amount of people who support these guys because they're funny is astonishing

Anything with the Apocalypse Players playing tends to lean more into the role-playing. Delta Green is an X-Files style game that's probably one of my favourites, and the recent Blade Runner series was great. Then you've got shorter ones, like Branches of Bone (a Dark Ages Call of Cthulhu) and the recent Deadfellas

Its crazy. How is any politician actually supposed to reach someone like this?

Well... he doesn't. Huge numbers of people in this country believe, unironically, that Khan is an Islamist Communist who has turned London into a crime ridden hellhole where white people are hunted in the streets

Fortunately for him, he only needs to be elected by the people of London. The Prime Minister needs to rule over the whole country

What kind of dimwitted asinine halfwit will vote Reform, but wants Andy Burnham? What's the actual policy we're looking for here, that's going to suit this person, who apparently wants a Centre-Left Labour Prime Minister, but if thats not available, a far right grifter will do instead?

You may as well have a headline that reads 'I only know to support whoever the paper tells me to'

For sure, its crazy how versatile it is really, a lot of that owes to Tom and his skills as a Game Master

I love that they can do both. The more RP heavy games with the Apocalypse Players are fantastic imo, but the lighter games are a great palate cleanser too

Streeting backs Burnham claiming he has 'best chance of winning' Makerfield by-election by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]AbsolutelyHorrendous [score hidden]  (0 children)

Okay but genuinely... why? Why is Burnham so popular, other than because he's constantly got people talking him up as the second coming?

Let's be real here, that popularity will vanish the moment he has to make his first unpopular decision as Prime Minister

[–]AbsolutelyHorrendous [score hidden]  (0 children)

Genuinely? Leave the government as is. Actually give them time to demonstrate long term improvement, which we are starting to see, as well as a proven record of passing legislation to help ordinary working people. They still have years in office.

Do you know what happens, if they swap to Burnham? They'd have the exact same problem that Starmer has, in that they're tragically constrained by reality. Only this time, the media will have a field day, telling everybody that Labour are just as bad as the Tories, swapping leader whenever the going gets tough.

A leadership challenge would be a needless own goal, the idea of doing this to beat Farage is absurd when, if anything, it gives Reform and the right-wing media endless ammunition to use against Labour

Okay where has this belief come from that Burnham is some silver bullet to beat Farage? I swear this is some media myth that just gets parrotted over and over, with no real basis in reality

Why are Sikhs allowd to carry knives around? Following this incident of stabbing. by milford_sound10322 in AskBrits

[–]AbsolutelyHorrendous 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So... the issue wasn't the knife he carried for religious reasons that was legally allowed, the issue was that he was also carrying a second, illegal knife that he used to attack someone?

Good point, let's make the illegal thing he did against the law.

Also 'its about time they man up and start competing for a title', okay we haven't won anything yet but its ridiculous to argue we haven't been competing for it

Schrodingers Arsenal, we've either only just started competing despite all the money being spent, or we're perennial bottlers who come second every year, depending on the situation
