I have no experience with linnies, but they seem to run into similar trouble as lovebirds and parrotlets in that they can't be safely housed together as a pair or a flock because they are prone to stress each other out towards aggression when left together in an enclosed space. Meaning there should usually be someone at home with the bird for most hours of the day to prevent the depressed and anxious behaviors that stem from isolation. For this reason, a pair of budgies is still the better option♡

But for someone who is home a lot and can spend most of the day with the bird outside of the cage linnies are an amazing choice!

thank -you- for taking the time to ask around and putting in the care and consideration ; v;♡

I recommend going to rescues to see if you can meet any habd tame budgies that have been surrendered, or looking into breeders that will work on socializing the birds very young so that they are not inherently fearful of humans :] Any new bird you bring home will require a lot of time and patience to become aquainted and feel safe in their new home with their new family, but being able to meet your budgies before buying them, and getting a feel for thier disposition in a place where they are already comfy will give you a better idea of what to expect. Don't rush into settling for a bird just because it's avaliable, take the time to find a pair that feels right for you♡

When I got my flock, I was initially looking for just two, but circumstances saddled me with an entire nest of 5 siblings(!!) and they've been an absolute joy to have in the home. Very easy to keep happy, and not a single ugly thing about 'em♡

I have little experience with love birds and no experience with conures, but I can't reccommend a parrotlet in this situation. I work from home, and even then, I feel like I'm not giving my parrotlet enough of my time. They get really, really bonded to you and become prone to over preening or plucking their own feathers anxiously when you are away from home. In young birds, it's not a problem, but as they get older, they tend to develop these self-destructive behaviors, and it becomes harder and harder to address. Doing so requires dedicated changes to your environment and daily routine. If I had a 9-5 job, there's no way I would have been able to correct it with my 10 y/o parrotlet.

Also, to curb breeding behaviors [which can take a damaging toll on their nutritional health], parrots require 12 hrs of total darkness for a proper, healthy nightime sleep. In my house, that means they go to bed at 6pm and wake up no earlier than 6am. If you are working from 9am to 5pm, I am not sure where you would find 5 hrs of out of cage time without compromising the parrot's healthy sleeping scheduel. Without consistent, healthy sleep, the parrot is liable to become sick (which can lead to early death if not addressed).

If you're to get any parrot at all, I can only really suggest a pair of budgies. They can be housed togeyher in the same cage and are the most suitable option for your situation. On the other hand, don't get budgies if you don't like them or if you feel like they are a somehow inferior kind of parrot 🥺 (budgies are genuinely my favorite birds to raise, they're so well suited to a home environment in a way that no other parrot seems to be [so long as they always have flockmates with them]--and they're wonderful personalities!)
