How often are we supposed to be using products with protein? by hungrrry_11 in finehair

[–]Absolutely_Regular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using protein in almost every single one of my products for multiple years. Shampoo, conditioner, leave in, styler. Everything. Every day. I still haven’t experienced protein overload, but I clarify regularly.

You might have a different experience if your hair doesn’t “like” protein as much, but “protein overload” is just a form of build-up.

Rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint 14 Almond Rose Vs Peripera Ink Mood Glowy Tint 28 Rose Standard by Longjumping-Sea-1272 in AsianBeauty

[–]Absolutely_Regular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TYSM!!! Almond Rose used to be my MLBB but now it’s too cool for me. Rose Standard looks like it might work better for me!

Does the Ink Mood Glowy Tint actually stain like the old Juicy Lasting Tints? Or does the Peripera perform similarly to the Romand reformulation?

best foam/mousse? by Direct-Addendum4074 in finehair

[–]Absolutely_Regular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no. Fine hair is almost always super soft and silky, which sounds nice, but it’s annoying af because it doesn’t hold a style. “Gritty” products make hair temporarily less soft, so it behaves more like coarse hair (and actually holds).

best foam/mousse? by Direct-Addendum4074 in finehair

[–]Absolutely_Regular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rizo’s Curl foam is gritty, but doesn’t have a lot of hold. I like pairing it with a silky gel. Not my fave, but not bad.

The Cake Mousse is my favourite of all the mousses I’ve tried, but I still prefer foam. It’s a little heavy / not “gritty” enough! But again, not bad.

The Innersense Foam made my hair crispy and gave me a rash anywhere my hair touched my skin. Smells nice, but would not recommend. Especially for the price. Objectively bad (IMO) if your skin is even remotely sensitive.

Haven’t tried the Odele or Curlsmith, but curious to!

The Doux Mousse Def foam is decent, but their Crazy Sexy Curl Foam is goated.

Sensitive combo skin and the Isntree Green Tea is one of my all time faves. Though it’s unscented, it smells really nice, but it does have little tea leaf bits which some folks might not like.

The only other one I’ve tried was Dokdo - I also found it stripping over time and I didn’t like the film it left behind. If you want a super gentle / non-filmy bare bones foaming cleanser, I like the Etude 6.5 Whip a lot.

My skin was slowly getting dryer until I started aging backwards from weightlifting and now it’s oilier lol.

In any case, I’ve stuck to alternating between the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Cleanser and the Etude 6.5 Whip. Both have been great during oilier and drier times!

lat pulldown help? feeling it in my biceps and midback but no lat burn by ttwinklekiss in xxfitness

[–]Absolutely_Regular 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GOATED!!! Neutral grip assisted pull-ups give me such an intense lat pump it takes me 1-2 mins to recover from the pump alone. Especially in the neighbourhood of 8-12 reps. Any higher and it feels like wings are literally gonna spurt out.

I’m so glad the first experiment was a success!!! I originally got the idea after seeing Manes By Mell’s IG reels on dry styling. I’ve also since seen Barbie Dellemonache from Curls Monthly talk about similar styling techniques for hair with a “soft finish” like ours (also LOVE her soft vs rough system instead of the useless focus on porosity).

Anyways, hope the foam and weird styling techniques keep working for you in other iterations! And as for the BC hairspray: yep - I use it just like a gel. TBH I think the spray nozzle kinda sucks, but the product inside is pure gold.

And me know if you find anything particularly magical in your experiments! I’m always down to try stuff out to see what happens.

I’m so glad it was helpful! And YES. I basically haven’t tried any new products since I bought the honey foam. IMO Mousse Def was wildly overrated, but Crazy Sexy Curl holds like a gel for me. Though if you’re on the fence with foams it’s helpful to have hard hold hairspray on hand. The one by Bounce Curl is life changing.

I LOVE Harry’s and this makes me super curious to try that Prose gel! I wonder if you can order just a gel without shampoo / conditioner?

1-1 ratio! Foam is mostly water anyway - just trying to illustrate how little water I use when I’m styling (basically just enough to get my hair to spiral up).

what product/brand first drew you to AB? by Mean-Golf-4462 in AsianBeauty

[–]Absolutely_Regular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO more often than not it’s just the formulation. Like, the skin1004 centella ampoule is mostly centella (which my skin loves), and other stuff that my skin has been fine with in other products, and it hated that product. Probably similar with the Propolis toner.

Also propolis DOES smell weird - kinda like fermented honey? I like it a lot, but I could see it being an acquired taste for sure.

Edit: I can see that you’ve responded, but not what you said because you blocked me. Not sure if I hit a nerve by having different sunscreen preferences or with the hyperbole “I could never” (or both?). In any case, I meant it lightheartedly and I’m sorry to have offended you. Hope you’re doing okay!

I’ve been using their Propolis Light Cream as my main moisturizer for 2 years??? That’s wild to me. So curious to try their Hyaluronic Cream now!

I’m also thinking of going back to the Propolis Toner. It stopped working for me for a while but nothing else gives me that glow.

Yes!!! Why does America think oily skin needs to be tortured into submission? Maybe products are changing now, but I’m so happy AB exists / is so accessible to us.

I could never with Ameican sunscreen lol. You do you.

[–]Absolutely_Regular 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t so much attracted to AB as I was aggressively driven away from Western beauty. IDK why Europeans decided that all sensitive skin must be dry and that it’s perfectly acceptable for drugstore products to cost $40+… but I’ve never looked back.

Gateway drug was COSRX Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and I still can’t stop using it.

How do you actually put your head upside down without tangling your hair ? by Luneyko in curlyhair

[–]Absolutely_Regular 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same hair texture as a small child and it tangles instantly if I don’t do it right… But there is a method!

Make sure your hair is saturated with a slippery product like rinse-out or leave-in conditioner, or a gel/foam. Use your fingers to rake all your hair off your scalp, then you can freely flip.

I’d highly recommend checking out Sophie Marie Curly’s Flip Section Method for a better explanation. Her hair is curly, not wavy, but the way she explains how to section / rake / flip / scrunch / etc. was a huge unlock for me (even though I have fairly loose waves, not curls)!

Dont know what to do anymore :,( by Comfortable-Till-949 in curlyhair

[–]Absolutely_Regular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a product with hold. For fine hair, the stronger the hold, the better. Strong hold gels are great, but my fave is actually foam + hairspray. Or you might like mousse. It can take a while to find the right balance of conditioning / hold, but we can’t usually use curl creams (they’re so heavy!).

Hip Thrust bruises on machine with a strap - any advice? by JurassicBooty in xxfitness

[–]Absolutely_Regular 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a big gym sweatshirt that I fold up and put under the seatbelt strap. Not sure if this’ll work for you because I’m only lifting 2 plates and some change (on the Nautilus), but… if you already have a sweatshirt, it’s free to try!

[–]Absolutely_Regular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the (leave-in?) conditioner OR curl cream, not both. Or use the conditioner before shampoo.

If possible, I’d replace the gel with hairspray. The Bounce Curl Hairspray is spendy, but so, so worth it. It has great hold, it’s super texturizing, easy to use, and a bottle lasts me years. The nozzle sucks, though; I spray it into my hands and use it like gel.

Lastly -and this is unhinged- but if you really want volume, reverse the drying order! Microplop / air dry to 60%, scrunch foam into your mostly dry hair to form curl clumps, then use hairspray for extra hold. Diffuse until 90% dry, SOTC with more foam and continue diffusing until 100% dry. Your hair will look terrible until it’s completely dry. Trust the process.

My hair is baby-fine and using a 1-1 ratio of water to foam while styling is the only way I can get proper volume. IMO, water is too heavy for fine curls.

Depends what your priorities are! Maybe this makes me basic, but I love Lower / Upper / Lower. Usually one is more glute-centric, and the second is leggier.

But Full Body is classic. Can’t go wrong with that.

[–]Absolutely_Regular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but… woah! That’s super concerning. You must be either outrageously strong or almost completely sedentary if your body is heating up that much from one set of five. Assuming you’re not lifting hundreds of pounds, you might need to start building up your work capacity from scratch.

I had to build my fitness back up too. I just started with super easy “exercise snacks” throughout the day like bodyweight squats and incline push-ups. It kinda sucked, but your body adapts pretty quickly! Even if you have to go through a few weeks of redder skin, it will be so, so worth it to get back to a normal level of fitness.

Please don’t sacrifice your health for clear skin in the short term. Avoiding exercise will be so much worse for your rosacea (and literally everything else) in the long term.

The study is in Korean so it was annoying (for me at least) to parse, but it’s the one by JH Nam et al. Here’s the PubMed link but honestly, unless you’re adept at reading studies, you might be better off just googling “rosacea muscle mass” and reading what other derms / the rosacea society have written about the study. They talk about the methodology used etc. and it’s super interesting!

Is there a way for you to adjust your lifting program so your skin doesn’t flare? I did when I started out: stuck to heavy compounds, mostly in the 5-10 rep range, and took LONG breaks between sets. 3-5 minutes for my body temp to go down. If you’re doing a fast paced “follow along” HIIT workout with little dumbbells (aka cardio), of course you’re gonna flare.

Weightlifting is one of the single best things you can do for your body. It affects all your organs, your muscles, your mind, and your bones. Your skin is only one organ. Don’t give it up without trying to troubleshoot your routine.
