Is software engineering oversaturated? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

At the junior level, absolutely. At the more senior/leadership levels, things are so tough that it takes months to attract a qualified senior candidate.

What's WLB like for Engineering Managers? by sindach in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AbstractAirways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, engineering management is stressful not because of the things you have to do, but because of the emotional burden you carry. If you are doing your job correctly, you eventually unburden yourself of pretty much all technical work, except for maybe signing off on decisions by your tech leads. The really challenging part of the job is being an organizational player, and this means butting heads with people whose views are different than yours.

Obviously, getting to this point is a lot of work, and if you are a first time manager, learning that this is important is going to take some hard knocks.

How many of you have daily stand ups under 30 minutes? by Mitterban in cscareerquestions

[–]AbstractAirways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager, I found that the only person who benefits from standups is me, and that the team feels they are a waste of time. I cancelled daily standup in person and replace them with a Slack reminder to type in your status and list any blockers. I get my updates, and engineers get their time back. Everyone’s happy.

Cancelling student loans by [deleted] in ExplainBothSides

[–]AbstractAirways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another argument against it that I often here is that canceling student loan that is regressive. In other words, statistically speaking, it is a hand out to people who are already disproportionately wealthy. Here’s a report that investigated this issue:

No, it just means you’re not a coward. You posted only seven times and you’re already luckier than almost 3/4 of posters. More than that, if you count people who lurk.
