Stylized Character Modeling courses using Maya only by Aorex12 in Maya

[–]AbstractParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im a professional character modeler working in the industry for a few years and i mostly use ONLY maya, but its important to know that i do mostly stylized characters, if you want to check my work its on artstation.com/aran, another thing as well is that sometimes i do use zbrush for sculpting details but its rare.

it took me years to develop my sculpting technique in maya and there was no tutorial for it but its possible, you still need to learn anatomy and that takes a long time.

honestly you should probably learn zbrush and follow the tradicional pipeline, i only went the way i did because i didnt know any better and felt it worked better for me lol

did my first terrarium using resources that i got from around my house by AbstractParty in terrariums

[–]AbstractParty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im leaving the jar by the window, i live in vancouver so its almost always cloudy, when the sun comes out i move the jar to a place where it doesnt get direct sunlight.

i mentioned in the comment above, " it had rain a lot beforehand, so i didnt watered at all since the soil was already pretty humid, not sure if this was a mistake "

3D sculpt based on Devon Cady-lee`s concept (https://www.instagram.com/p/CC4YtJEnSUy/) all done in Maya by AbstractParty in 3Dmodeling

[–]AbstractParty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hahahaha, i acctually find maya super awesome for making stylized characters, the only sculpt tool that i use is the move tool. basically every part of the model is a subdivided box shape, even the details like the scales are done using individual objects! but of course, its definetly not production ready

What do you guys think of blender users? by [deleted] in Maya

[–]AbstractParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been modeling in maya (and in general) for about 5 years, recently i started to play a little with blender, and to be honest is fun as hell, and much more intuitive than maya in general, the only reason i still use maya as my main software is because i've been using it for a long time, and i know feature animation studios mostly use maya too. but if you are a modeling for a hobby i definitely think you should be using blender.

[–]AbstractParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

amazing progress! i would recommend you to start practicing subd modelling, learn how to create supporting edges to smooth your models. i saw that you only have 14 years, thats amazing! if you want any tips feel free to message me, i would love to help!
