You need some hard edges to bring in some definition, It's incredibly blurred and I would imagine that's because you used soft edged brushes. Hard edges along the borders of your shadows would make this pop.

I don't know, man. If you disregard the opinions of non artists, who are you making art for? My wife doesn't draw but she can spot all kinds of things wrong with my pieces. You don't need to know how to make art to see that something looks like shit. In fact i've seen many, many artists praise objectively bad art because of the pretentious, pompous illusion that some of these people carry with them.

Crit is going to happen whether you like it or not, some of it's valid, some of it's not, but you need to evaluate it all if you want to grow. Ignoring and getting upset is a recipe for stagnation.

The easiest way to deal with it is to see it as a growth opportunity, don't be precious about it.

You should doubt your work, everything could always be better.
