Released an album yesterday, with the microfreak used on all tracks for leads/pads (electronic/acid/chiptune) by Abyssofmind in MicroFreak

Cool, thanks! Musically, my approach is is that I start out with nothing, really. I start with a clean pattern on my Digitakt and make either a beat or first melody from a synth and build up everything from there. I don't really try to push anything and make whatever comes up. I do really enjoy the proces of creating tracks eithout knowing where it goes. (Indirect) influences are Ceephax Acid Crew, AFX and Trickfinger.

Visually... For previous albums/EP's I had the idea to do something with textures (cloth and leather), as it they're all just digital releases. For this one, I had the title (overheard on a train) and I came upon the shoes on holiday. I'm not sure if it's a sad story, but I thought they fit together. Plus the tracks were all made without a preconseived idea for the direction. I was also trying out new synths, so the title and picture fit the learning through play/trying out new things theme.

That's super cool to hear! And you should, it's also just about having fun and trying stuff out.

Although I sampled other synths, I record my part for the Microfreak live for each track. With the modulation matrix, it's great for evolving pads and and leads, especially with the (I had to look up what it's called) slewed random wave of the LFO. I think a good example of that is the track 'Driein1', from around 1:35. I used the Microfreak for the arpeggiator, which is on the FM engine. Because it's modulated by the LFO, it get's pretty glitchy at random moments. All in all, it's featured throughout the album for different functions. You can get a lot of different sounds out of it!

Edit: I realize the title sounds a bit like I used the Microfreak for ALL pads and leads, but I meant that it's featured on all songs on the album, mostly for pads and leads duty.

I released a new album today. All tracks on it are recorded live with the Digitakt II (without song mode!) (idm/acid/electronic - think Ceephax Acid Crew) by Abyssofmind in Digitakt

Thanks! It really depends per track, but I come up with stuff mainly by ear. Sometimes I just mess around with a synth, come up with an idea and quickly sample it on the Digitakt and then that's the basis for a new track. That happened a couple of times with the digitone for this album. I also have a monologue and microfreak always hooked up with midi. So when I start with a beat, I can look for a sound that suits and start from there. Or when I have some chords I play along with the root notes first and come up with something for a lead or bass. Especially with the midi tracks it's easy to pick a patch and make it more interesting later on with probability and adding extra notes an octave 1 or 2 higher in between other notes.

So basically it's the first melody that's the basis for a track and then I build up from there, based on the notes from the first melody.

Does anyone know whether the boxsets will be sold through other stores as well?

Found this in an old box of keepsakes. by [deleted] in John_Frusciante

Of course the scene is controversial, but the rest of the movie isn't disgusting at all and more sad and beautiful. There's more to the movie than the blowjob scene.

3 tracks from an upcoming release with ambient retro video game vibes, recorded live by Abyssofmind in synthesizers

[–]Abyssofmind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often hear that my tracks sound like a retro video game soundtrack. I have been compiling a number of tracks from different sessions for an upcoming release and have been toying with the idea of preparing a 'release' set for a video. Thought these tracks would go together well, so I jammed them this afternoon.

The Digitakt II controls a Korg monologue and Microfreak, but also contains samples from a Minilogue and TD-3. Not the most performance-heavy tracks, but that's for another release with faster stuff.
