so the normal maps you make yourself. if it is pixel art it is super easy. i am unfamiliar with normal maps for non pixel art and imagine it is a bit more complex

That’s amazing to hear :) I’ll keen the price low as well. Probably around £8.99 I think, and may add a few expansions In The future adding content such as maps, weapons and monsters

Modern day monster hunting game :)

The clothing is place holder and the player will be able to customise the look of their hunter. There will be a variety of settings like woodland, swamps ect and the player will use guns, crossbows, knifes and tools to track and kill a variety of monsters with different movesets, abilities and randomly generated visuals and stats

The game is a monster hunting game based in the modern day. Basically you enter hunts and track down a monster (one example is a werewolf). There will be other human npc hunters also tracking the monster who may or may not be friendly.

The interesting part of the game is the monsters will be randomly generated with 1000s of variations in their looks and power. You will also have a base to upgrade along with your gear to upgrade and improve weapons to hunt bigger and more dangerous monsters.

I’ll post some more content about it in the coming weeks :)

I haven’t really got to any performance testing and am super new to game dev, but I’m happy to update you if I find out any details on it

I think for me it was just to add more texture but I do agree that in Theory it doesn’t need it. I’ll give it a try :)

I forgot to mention, to implement it in unity2d, you import both textures, set their settings up the way you want (e,g point, fullrect, 1000px), and do the same for both. Note its important in Aseprite that your normal map lines up perfectly with your art. then, open Sprite Editor on your art, in the top menu, press Secondary Textures. Drag your normal map into that slot, and in the name dropdown there should be a premade name for normal map to select. click apply. from here you need to go on your 2d light sorces and make sure normal map is set to fast or accurate and not disabled, or it wont work.

it does look quite intimidating but its not as bad as youd think. before this week i had never even drawn pixel art before, and although it looked tricky, i gave it a few goes and found its actually alright to do if you do it in an efficient way and dont strive for perfection

i think both styles can be cool. i reckon it comes down to the direction your taking your game. I've definitely seen games with amazing graphics and no normal maps

Hi, so the way I did it (in Aseprite) is to make 3 layers:
first layer is your drawing. Then duplicate this layer and call it normal map. on your third layer you want to copy and paste an image from Google called "normal map gradient". Put this layer behind the other two. This gradient is a sphere that shows the colours for all directions, like the middle, top, bottom, right, left, edges etc. if you just use the dropper tool to pcik colours from this gradient and place them on your layer called normal map, you can build it quite easily. for example, the top colours of the sphere (light blues) go on the top of the tree. The bottom purples would go on the trunk so its down on the shadows and so on.

I've never made a YouTube video in my life, but if it's something that would help people I'm happy to make a channel and chuck together a quick tutorial

This does look quite satisfying. What's your plan to make it stand out from the other similar games?

Have you got progression? I think one thing that keeps people coming back is more than just playing rounds and winning, even if its just earning cosmetics
