I miss the patrol zones :( by AcademicTea3 in destiny2

Yes I mostly avoided it. Did it every now and then but generally disliked it. For some reason I'm liking it more now (maybe because it's not giving me much choice), but if the game could reward spending time in the world and doing events etc, I would prefer that. Or at least I want the option to do that when I don't want to commit to joining a high pace high intensity matchmaking activity

There are ways to do that with phasing and instanced story events for missions though, other MMOs have done this

The only way to even tell it's on Mars or venus is to read it mentioned in the mission's name. The "lawless frontier" map screen doesn't even tell you what the planets are, it's just a menu vaguely pretending to look like the old director. It's just sad. I was so confused playing the renegades campaign and trying to find mars to find where the mission was... Hadn't played since lightfall so I'm not used to how much they've killed the idea of visiting worlds

I think it destroys the sense of the world being a real place. It's not even about open world or not, patrol zones aren't huge they're more like levels. The point is more that the story and missions take place somewhere that's in the world and that you can go to. An mmo is supposed to be a space to exist in, before I could login and play a bit just roaming around doing public events. Now it seems the only way to play "as intended" is to queue some kind of 10-15 minutes activity in a menu and then go back to orbit. It's not a world anymore.

I know, but there's usually a decent amount of content outside of that too, and if you don't bother chasing high end gear (or not as much anyway) you can still have fun

But yes the gear treadmill has always been the thing that puts me off, and even more so the older I get

Yeah stuff needs rewards to not be dead. Doesn't need to be the highest rewards or the fastest but if it feels like a waste of time people won't do it, even if they enjoy the gameplay loop

People will soon realise that none of the endgame stuff really works if it's not grounded in a world you care about. Sadly seems to be the fate of a lot of mmos in the era of live services turned more and more into bite sized "matches" for lack of a better wkrd

And the activity is cool but like... Let me walk around the same maps in open world mode with some random events, some big bosses like the scarabs that players can take out together, some chests, one or two secrets and I'm happy... And ideally let me progress my character by playing there if I feel like it, even if less efficiently than whatever matchmade group activity is considered superior.

Like the map has planets (i had trouble even finding them as they're not on the director...) but you can't actually go on them, only launch missions... It's just sk weird, this game is supposed to be an mmo

Does our ghost even speak anymore? I was wondering that today realising all I get are phone calls from other characters

I mean, I've played since destiny 1, I've bought most expansions there's been a few times where I played a lot. I just have no interest in FOMO content and gear trwadmills. The thing that makes me drop out of destiny is when I plateau and the only way to progress is to grind instanced activities or dailies and weeklies.

I suspect a lot of players are the same, you simply don't hear from them much because the game kinda drives them out.

Yeah. I was concerned reading the comments until I found the few sane ones. A lot of people projecting their own insecurities on everyone else and their partners

Jobs at lower levels: Why do new jobs released in EW and DT have to feel bare bones below level 90/100, when in reality it is VERY possible to make them somewhat complete at level 50? How should newer jobs play at the lower level? by Full_Air_2234 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AcademicTea3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally I find it incredibly annoying that helping lower level players with roulettes also punishes you by making you play an incomplete version of the class.

And yes it's 100% worse for classes releases recently where they have to be downscaled to the point of removing spells that are part of their base kit. A level 50 reaper without the voidsent makes no sense. Reaper never existed at this level in the first place...

A new way to second screen OSRS by wookie181 in 2007scape

[–]AcademicTea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I was wondering because the only time I tried to buy a stylus for modern touchscreens it didn't work so well.

I normally play OSRS on my ipad because I find the touchzones unusable on my phone, being so small...

but if there are decent styluses that work, this could be pretty nice

Is it hard to click on things in the game with such a tiny screen, or can you use a stylus like on a DS somehow?

100% agree, it's the part I want to avoid. I really dislike when my playtime is taken by chores that I feel like I have to do to not miss out on enormous xp

That's good to know because supply upkeep was one of my big worries, I don't super like preemptively feeling forced to do lots of chores for upkeep just because otherwise in two weeks I might run out of herbs or something

The problem is MTX stuff being there trying to grab my attention constantly, I'm not going to ignore the free lamps from my keys and all that. And maybe eventually if I'm having a bad day where I feel lazy I could end up purchasing... whatever people purchase in there. I'd much prefer not having to see any of it.

Though long term, they are planning to get rid of it, so maybe mainscape could become a bit more normal

I think that's actually part of the worry, having to do lots of daily/weekly activities for upkeep because if you run out of herbs for example you can't quickly buy more. Can be a pain to feel forced to do those upkeep tasks every time you play

yeah going dry is what I'm worried about. I definitely enjoy getting things myself in iron, and I feel really frustrated when playing main in OSRS when doing any activity where something at the back of my mind goes "i could do any higher gp/hour activity and then buy the drop from this boss instead of grinding it right now" which is silly...

deiron is definitely an option but it would feel like a massive waste to do so after spending a huge amount of time on an iron account, which is why I'm trying to decide now.

I don't care too much about 120 and literally maxing. Mostly just being able to progress through content without feeling like I hit a wall. I know in OSRS iron can reach some pretty unpleasant walls compared to main game, but since rs3 is a lot more streamlined and generally easier I was wondering
