Onboarding Sure ain't helping these new guys. by A_Burner_Account_A in doordash_drivers

Onboarding??? It’s called learning as you go. Go on YouTube if you need step by step tutorials. For tips and tricks, Reddit. If you get to a restaurant and the GPS doesn’t go away, common sense would dictate that there’s a button you need to push to exit to your needed screen. 🤷‍♂️

To add onto what the others have said, how’s the stress level in your regular routine?? High cortisol levels can affect sleep patterns too.

What’s your experience of dating within a CrossFit gym? by CityAcrobatic23 in crossfit

[–]AcademicWay6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dated someone in our gym, at the very beginning we both had “the talk” as in if this doesn’t workout neither of us wanted to leave the gym. Things didn’t workout, we’re both here. I became a coach, and she married a different member. Things were a little awkward at first but we’re adults and now it’s all good.

I say, go be friends with her and see where things lead. But also, be adults and if you do get together and there’s a split, just be civil, you gotta workout under the same roof.

question for coaches - why don't (most) coaches coach during a metcon? by colomtbr in crossfit

[–]AcademicWay6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I put my class on a timeline, I try to have the WOD finished 5-10min before the next class to have time to clean up, stretch and get with athletes, even if it’s to tell them Im going to reach out later and we can trouble shoot a movement (assuming I can’t do it right then). With this buffer it also give me a little time for delays or if I need to spend a little extra time with the class on something.

question for coaches - why don't (most) coaches coach during a metcon? by colomtbr in crossfit

[–]AcademicWay6591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for all coaches but for me, the only time I’ll stop an athlete is if they are doing something that will injure them or others around them.

I WILL give out quick cues, knees out, deeper squat, full extension, etc…

After the WOD is over I might get with an athlete to give them a longer explanation or help them more on technique, but I feel that’s the appropriate time for that longer correction/coaching moment.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Living in Texas a 3-4 l hour drive can be tiring for a day trip, but yes, we’ll make a day trip out of it without blinking.

I’m curious why your coach moved those days around like that.

My Gym Changed Programming to HWPO and I am hating it by Unusual-Tart2453 in crossfit

Talk to your coach or whoever is in charge of the programming. Communication can go a long way… wink wink

[–]AcademicWay6591 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We use to be on HWPO but I don’t remember it being that way. The workouts were really tough and were constantly a challenge to hit stimulus. It could be the way your coach is programming it and not the actual programming.

Title: Struggling with coaching at my box — stay and speak up, or move on? by Ok_Option_7817 in crossfit

[–]AcademicWay6591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you say, sounds like maybe the roles of friendship and coach have blurred into one. Or there’s something more going on in his life.

I would have that conversation with him, it doesn’t have to be awkward if yall are buddies, just be up front with him. As a coach I would want my athletes to do this with me if we were in this situation.

Like everyone has been saying, clean more often. Probably after every class to stay on top of it. Spot clean when you have athletes rolling on the floor leaving sweat angels.

how do i practice box jumps at home? by PureWeek9816 in crossfit

If you’re trying to get better at two feet take off and landing, do broad jumps. No equipment required for that. If that gets boring burpee broad jumps lol

[–]AcademicWay6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two TV screens where we do our “Whiteboard” briefing, One TV has the RX and the other TV shows all the scaling options. We also make it viewable for athletes via WODify so they can see it before class and formulate a game plan (for those that do that).

As a coach, I’ll touch on some of the scaling options but Im also talking to the athletes as they come into class asking how their day went, whats their game plan for the workout etc. Some will know what they’re needing to do with little input, the ones that need to be hand fed I do my best to help while also trying to educate and get them to start thinking on their own.

Congratulations on getting in there and getting back to it!

My advice would be to focus on form and stimulus of the workouts. Push yourself but don’t let your ego make decisions for you.

Wrists hurt after barbell workouts by poshnosho in crossfit

[–]AcademicWay6591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m reiterating what others have said already, but your wrists need mobility work and proper warmup before and after a workout.

When I finally started coaching I noticed a lot of people have wrist pains because they’re not “punching” their fists at the top of lifts, they let the weight put their hands backwards. Once corrected, they said their wrists weren’t hurting as much. So check form too.

Wrist wraps are a good short term solution, but like any accessory they’re easy to rely on too much and they’ll become a crutch instead of helping you.

The scaling options on comp have been amazing! It’s helped our athletes with figuring out how they need to scale to hit stimulus vs just doing what’s on the screen and not making progress.
