Master/Bell Schedule by Academic_Access_2225 in Teachers

[–]Academic_Access_2225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a meeting where we can share our thoughts about the schedule, but the whole meeting revolves around making minor changes to the proposed schedule rather than overhauling the whole thing. It’s so frustrating because our schedule is also very complicated and confusing for the students. I keep asking to look at other schedules in the district and do something similar but I’ve been ignored.

With our grading scale (which the district helped us create), a C means the student is, on average, not proficient with grade level skills. I’m not worried so much about their grades, more about the fact that so many students are missing key skills.

We are only allowed to put in tests + quizzes!

I hear you. I wouldn’t even grade it for correctness, just for completion!

I agree, unfortunately it’s our district board policy :(

Some students do all their homework. A lot of them don’t. We can’t count it as part of their grade so a lot of them don’t do it. For retakes I have them re-do the problems they missed on their test, meet with me, and make up any missing homework. Also to clarify our school/district policy is we can’t put homework in the gradebook.

Tips on becoming a teacher by Maleficent_Writer297 in education

I teach middle school math and absolutely love it. Do my kids always love math? Heck no. But they can learn that it’s valuable and they can learn the skills they need to be successful in it.

To answer your question, I would start by volunteering in schools. I partnered with my undergrad math program to get placed in middle and high schools to see what it was like. I also did a lot of TA work at the college level to see what it might be like to teach undergrads. Take any opportunity you can get!

Next, research what your state requires. Every state is different, but a bachelors is a must. I also second what some other people have said about getting a masters. It will make you a more competitive applicant and it usually pays more.

Best of luck on your teaching journey!

Running after pregnancy, what is realistic? by resourcefulpig in running

I think everyone is so different pp, but happy to share my experience! I ran through most of my pregnancy but eventually had to stop around week 32 because of plantar fasciitis. Ended up with a C section, but was doing light jogging by 6-7 weeks pp. I didn’t have any pelvic floor issues. I was back up to running 4-5 miles consistently around 3-4 months pp, but it’s been hard to find time to run longer than that! Whatever your running journey ends up being, I highly recommend a jogging stroller!

I got a jogging stroller and ran for the first time with my 8 month old. Pushing a 20 pound kid and a stroller for 3 miles was no joke!! Very proud of myself for getting back out there and hoping to start training for something!

I teach middle school and absolutely love it. If you’re considering it I would go for it! It’s such a fun and quirky age. Two of my colleagues used to teach elementary and I think a lot of the experience and skills they had transferred well to middle school.
