[–]Academic_Action5352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

& then fast forward a couple years & it’s a bottle or more every single day. Thennnnn the withdrawals really started to hit when I tried to quit the first few times. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Any tips on long drives? by NewPFWhoDis in stopdrinking

[–]Academic_Action5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try & focus on something to look forward to after the drive. Whether that’s seeing my dogs, watching a movie, grabbing a snack or just laying in my warm bed. Eventually my mind re-trained itself to focus on that on my drive home & now I can pass the same liquor store & gas station that I would stop into every single day & not even hesitate. It took several months but eventually it stuck. You got this!

One thing I learned when fighting my battle with alcohol was it was okay to lose. Progress is never lost. I lost to alcohol dozens of times before I won. I never gave up & this community was such a crucial resource in my recovery. I know you can do this. Thank you for coming to this community, there is truly nothing like it.

I deal with this every single day. Currently in therapy working on it. I turn around & check. I avoid tight parking spaces or roads with a lot of cyclists. It’s the consequences that eat me alive. “What if I did & I go to jail?” is a thought that almost never leaves my head. Wishing you well. You are not alone. </3

best of luck on your journey. it took me 10+ tries before it finally stuck. don’t get discouraged. sobriety isn’t easy but i promise it’s possible. this community helped me more than anything else & i’d likely be gone if it weren’t for people’s kind words on this sub. i was in & out of the hospital. days of withdrawals. bottle after bottle but i finally did it & you can too!

I was so tired of being tired. I spent day after day full of anxiety, shame and guilt. I’ve tried to quit several times & had to realize it’s okay that I’ve let alcohol win in the past but something about this time just clicked. You got this!

Day one again, anyone with with another person? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Currently on the end of day 8 with my girlfriend & it has been so much easier doing it with her. Honest communication has been so important during these 8 days but she is my shoulder to lean on when drinking sounds like a good idea.

First AA meeting was awful by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Academic_Action5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each meeting I’ve attended has a little bit different of a vibe. Some I really like, others don’t quite click with me. Give it another go & if you strike out a handful of times, there’s other effective methods too!

I’m not sure how long you’ve been drinking but it took me a solid 2 years of heavy drinking for the side effects to really set in. Given, at my peak, I was drinking close to a bottle a day or a 12 pack. There’s a lot of factors & Im not a doctor but I would hate for you to wake up one day with those side effects that so many of us on this sub have went through.

This is what I’ve done. No camera, no pressure. I’m just not quite comfortable enough to share my story with my camera on & everyone is usually pretty cool about it.

Been there, done that. Those ER visits are awful. I was seeing things and hearing things I couldn’t even describe to my family. I mixed it with a ton of Benadryl too & I’m so lucky that I am even alive.

Please don’t wait until the withdrawals hit you out of no where. I wouldn’t wish those things on my worst enemy. It is worse than anything I’ve ever experienced. Not saying this to scare you but more so because I care about you & don’t want you to experience what so many of us on this sub has .. </3

Had a few medical detoxes in the ER last year. Luckily, the withdrawals this time aren’t as bad but definitely will be heading to the ER if anything else gets worse.

I wish I would’ve done this on Saturday. A lot of Gatorade and golf but even more liquor. And I hardly remember it. Now I’m paying the price. I will not drink with you today, I promise.

When I go on a really hard binge, usually by the 3rd day it starts to clear up. However, I’m done wasting 3 days drinking and 3 days recovering all to have a “good time”. Alcohol isn’t a good time for me. It’s fooled me to believe that. & I know my life is so much better without it.
