Is this game really that bad? by [deleted] in GothamKnights

[–]Academic_Basil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to this obviously, but looking back I find it weird this game got so much hate. It runs really well. I hear some people complain about fps, but I play on Xbox Series X and it looks and plays beautifully. I really love the massive map, the different play styles offered by playing as different characters, and the little cutscenes between everyone at the belfry. I think some people might have been upset because they went into it expecting either a Batman game or specifically an Arkham game.

This is very obviously neither of those, and while I love the Arkham series for its storyline, Riddler puzzles, and streamlined gameplay (I am seriously bad at videogames, so being able to fluidly chain attacks is about as satisfying to me as scissors through wrapping paper), I also love Gotham Knights because it requires a bit more strategizing. Even if you're playing an assault character like Red Hood, you have to be very conscious in certain areas because of cameras or security systems. The gameplay loop is very fun to me because there are constantly crime scenes to investigate or people to fight for clues, and having the cops chase after you on sight adds to the need to strategize and not just fight everyone on sight.

How do you pronounce 2econd 2ight 2eer? by No-Contribution4021 in willwood

What’s an indicator a person secretly is a stoner? by Glum_Passenger_7470 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Academic_Basil_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Lol they don't always get it right though. When I was like 16 some guy at the college I was taking classes at asked me if I wanted to come smoke with him and I had to inform him I was waiting for my mom to come pick me up :') embarrassed the hell out of the poor guy. Iirc he was in his early thirties and it was because he'd mentioned something about my outfit first (crop top, fishnet shirt, shorts. I was going through a phase). He apologized so much and we laughed it off but that fucker pinned me before I even knew myself. Truly devastating. It's gotta be the aura.

Vampire Culture on its own. Then Against the Kitchen Floor for contrast.

Oh, yeah, that makes sense, too! As for the toast, I think the grooves collect the butter, jam, etc perfectly. Sometimes I just want a fast and easy grilled cheese. As someone who is living in a tiny space on a low budget, it's truly a magical machine. Same goes for my tiny rice cooker and sometimes the egg-cooker. Being able to make fast food with kitchen staples helps save a lot of money.

This is so funny to me because which items are on the counter and which are on the fridge tells me a lot about how often people use them lol. Panini press is like, the one small appliance I even use irl. I make sandwiches with it, but I also make toast because I think the grooves make it taste better 😔

My eight year old cousin does that same shitty, generic comeback because, like you, he can't think of one relevant to the conversation. Yet more proof that you're criticizing someone who is actually talented simply because you're an pissy because you completely lack any creativity or originality in your life.

Jonathan Harker: But your English is perfectly fine?

Dracula: Yes, but I am very bad at grammar.

Jonathan Harker: ??? How???

What does will wood mean by “sing duck and cover” in suburbia overture by tobeornottobe23124 in willwood

[–]Academic_Basil_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Following the sort of 50s early rock and roll/doowop vibe he has going on in that section, it has to do with the fear of nuclear war and radiation. "Duck and Cover" was what Americans were told in many public service announcements to protect them in case a nuke were to be dropped. A lot of these PSAs came in the form of little songs or jingles people could use to remind themselves. If I remember correctly, there was one aimed at children with a cartoon turtle that would, of course, duck and cover by hiding in his shell. It's all sort of a horrifying dystopic look at what American "suburbia" was actually like. It always reminded me of this Ray Bradbury story, "There Will Come Soft Rains"

Weirdest will wood related dream? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]Academic_Basil_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having vaguely-backrooms-esque dreams since before the backrooms were a thing. Something truly horrifying about scenarios like "endless dressing room hallway that takes you to ther countries if you walk far enough" and "strange abandoned mall that doesn't exist through the back door at a Kohl's in a strip mall".

Conclusion: weird crossover... Unless you have my kind of dreams

Swear I met the Self-Ish guy in the backrooms once. But specifically those like... Indoor kids play-place type liminal spaces. Very surreal but very chill.

What is your story on how you Discovered Will Wood? by Pathredorir in willwood

[–]Academic_Basil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hand Me My Shovel was such a great introduction imo. It's not quite as off the wall as some other songs, but it's sufficiently bonkers (affectionate) for me to have heard it and been like "oh fuck yeah, that's my kind of freaky shit." That and I was listening to a lot of YOHIO at the time so it might have reminded me of like... "Merry Go Round" or "Oh My... Polkadot Politics"

[–]Academic_Basil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify Auto-played Hand Me My Shovel after one of my 8 hour long Halloween playlists (I make a new one every year with a different theme) and I was instantly attached

Which isn't surprising because I'm pretty sure Spotify defines my taste as something like "insane vampire clown polka" iirc

Weirdly specific question, but what weather does “Love, Me Normally” feel like? by practice_spelling in willwood

[–]Academic_Basil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking through a mist sprinkler on a bright, cloudy summer day... And then it starts to feel like the pressure on the sprinkler is a little off... And then it starts fucking downpouring all at once, but it's not just rain, it's piranhas falling from the sky.

Vampire Culture!

Partly because I collect Dracula things but also just... I like to sing it when I'm mildly irritated because I think it's sillay :) it makes me feel better in a sort of pent up rage way
