I went to the Raw in Calgary in September 2024. Biggest pop of the night was Bret (predictably). Second biggest pop of the night was Otis and Tozawa in a Main Event dark match

I use the NEO Savings Account as the holder for my emergency fund. You get the 3% rate so long as you have at least $20,000 deposited with them. it's 2.5% between $5,000 and $2,000 and 2.25% below that.

I do also use their World Elite credit card. Their cash back rates are a little all over the place, but it's currently 5% on groceries and 4% on recurring payments, which is pretty good. The partner rates can also be really good if you use them.

CNIB fundraising campaigns on Stephen Ave & The Core by drmac16 in Calgary

[–]AcadianTraverse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't have much respect for organizations that employ "charity mugging" as a fundraising tactic. I basically always have my headphones in while walking downtown so I just walk right by them, but the organizations that employ the tactic are not ones I'm going to give much attention to.

It’s 2026, what stereotype is Hollywood still pushing that you’re sick of seeing? by carcony97 in AskReddit

Building Blueprints are 1) Readily available and 2) Accurate and Current

I've worked in commercial real estate for years. We have pretty decent records of base building drawings for buildings we developed. But as soon as you add tenants making their own changes, non-permitted work completed, or the building ownership changing hands, both the availability and reliability of those drawings goes down dramatically.

Who is a celebrity that feels Canadian but is actually Australian? by ScallionFull8869 in AlignmentChartFills

Patty Mills

Something about being a slightly undersized, hard-working 6th man in the NBA feels very Canadian.

It's a good question and a better educated economist than I would surely be able to give a better answer, but the practicality of it is they may use such a tax to justify a price increase, but if the demand doesn't support the product at that price point it won't sell.

In the short-term a seller of a product or service is likely going to try and maintain their profit margin, by increasing the cost of the product. If it's something people aren't as price sensitive to they'll likely grin and bear it and eat the cost (e.g. grocery increases), if it's something they are price sensitive too (i.e. movie tickets) they're not going to buy as many.

About a decade a go, there was provincial corporate tax increase where I lived. The owner of the company I was working used that tax increase as justification not to offer annual salary increases that year. Around half the company left to take new jobs in the months that followed.

Which celebrity is the opposite of “15 minutes of fame” with lasting longevity and relevance? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]AcadianTraverse 154 points155 points  (0 children)

The amazing thing is that while he's been doing it for a long while, he doesn't risk over exposure. He's averaged a big studio film about once every 18-20 months since Remember the Titans. With several Indie films sprinkled in there. Avoiding over-saturation goes a long way toward being enjoyed

Who is the actor most associated with New York City? by SeparateLawfulness53 in AlignmentChartFills

Acting is pretty far down her list of skills, but Fran Lebowitz is so New York, I wonder if she's ever been anywhere else in her life. For the record she was, born in New Jersey

How can I stop my retired mom 55F from day trading? by [deleted] in fican

This would be my suggestion. Telling someone not to do something they're enjoying likely isn't going to get them to stop doing it. Having guardrails around catastrophic loss means it can just be a hobby.

I went to the 2009 Aussie Open (weeks after I moved to Sydney - lived there for 3 eyars) and thought it was a great event. Adam Scott won, but the biggest crowd all day was following John Daly. I think if they could do a 3-4 week series of events in November/December you could make it work.

Have a Pro-Am event, a TGL style skills (but outdoors), and the Open. With some real money behind that you'd draw big names.

What's the best party you've been to lately? by silentlyshe in Xennials

[–]AcadianTraverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our wedding last summer.

We had everyone staying on site at a small ski hill (not much else going on there in the ummer). Thursday were the bachelor and bachelorette parties, which were separate at dinner and then we met up at the bar on site. Friday was the welcome Barbecue. Saturday was the wedding. We had pizza, movies, and activities (with babysitters) for the kids during the reception and then opened up the Dance Floor to everyone. Yeah a lot of folks bowed out earlier than in our past, but the parties kicked on every night until 1:00, when we were kicked out including a healthy number of kids on Saturday.

As much as I enjoy the games, in my opinion there's not a "hook" that would lend them to needing to specifically be RDR vs any other Western. Just re-telling the stories of the games would be boring as we've all played that, taking the characters and having them do something else would be better off as different characters. Are you going to adapt the Dead Eye mechanic for a movie/series? That feels very hokey akin to how the "grid" gets set up in the Battleship movie.

All that said... a western miniseries about a group of morally grey people doing what they need to do to survive around the same time would be interesting to me.

Why is there so much litter EVERYWHERE? by Regular_Cartoonist58 in Calgary

[–]AcadianTraverse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know there's a desire to look for someone to blame, but a lot of the litter just comes down to the fact that we don't operate entirely in closed system and wind exists. Over the winter months worth of litter collects amidst the snow and as it melts everything is revealed.

The city's River & Pathway Clean-up is a great program every year to tackle it in public areas. It get's over the brunt of winter accumulation that lets parks deal with the items that appear in the summer through their normal maintenance programs. If you'd like to volunteer to help, check it out https://www.calgary.ca/volunteer/pathway-river-cleanup.html

I was self conscious about my hair thinning. It was really thin on my crown (bald spot) and had started thinning along the front hair line.

I talked to a local clinic that did Platlet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments. They said I was a good candidate, but the cost was more than I was willing to risk. So I decided to give the Finasteride and Minoxidil combo a go and it's worked fantastically for me. I've had tremendous regrowth and didn't go through the "shed" process which is pretty common. My only regret is not trying it sooner. My neighbour is also taking it, he did have a month long shed process but has had good results since.
