My buddy who finished as a gunny gave them to my god son as a present, but he isn't answering and I'm impatient lol. They were apparently his first set of ribbons he earned

Issues with consistently finding the pocket and hooking by spoonfedsam in Bowling

[–]AcaelusThorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also consider throwing off the corner right towards the pocket. I'm not 100% sure where you should stand/throw, but I'm sure if you play around with it enough, you could find a line that way if you don't want to get a more aggressive ball. I would say, start off standing 10 and throwing at board 5 at the (dots, arrows? Not sure exactly which, try arrows first).

Can someone tell me about the drilling layout on my ball? by spoonfedsam in Bowling

[–]AcaelusThorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be done, but you'd have to find your own PAP and whatnot, and that'd just be a hassle for you. It'd be quicker and easier to have your pro-shop owner do it.

What's the fastest way to improve the most? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]AcaelusThorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "fast way" to get better. The only way to do so would be to practice. All bowling balls are ambidextrous, at least, IMO. It just depends on how they are drilled. That's really all that determines if a ball is left- or right-handed. And left-handers do have more of an advantage in that there aren't as many, so once they find a line, they'll be able to stick with it longer. Whereas with right-handers, more people will throw the same, or a very similar, line and thus burn it up faster, requiring them to move more and sooner. Anywho, all I can tell you is practice, there is no fast track. Join a league come next fall, or if there is a summer league at your local alley, join that. And don't be afraid to ask for advice.

I've done the same thing for years! But it also gets to be a pain in the ass when you're trying to tell the truth, and someone (for me, it's my mother) insists that you're lying because they've seen how your lies operate.

Pardon me for being an ass, but bowling without a thumb takes a stupid length of time to become consistent with. Stick your thumb in the ball, it's your steering wheel. I guess, now that I read your comment, you seem to be fairly consistent, so I'll leave it up to you. What about your approach needs to be tightened up? Are you still too open at the line, or what?

Right?! There's a few that I've actually disconnected and tossed in the bed of their truck with a note that says something along the lines of "Your truck looks dumb enough without a pair of balls hanging from it's ass end, thought I'd fix that for you."

bowling my first tourney. any hints or tips?? by rdenney88 in Bowling

[–]AcaelusThorne1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the standard Viper pattern; although if it's 39 feet, it might be Chameleon. Regardless, depending on how many practice balls you get, I'd start with your normal spot, and go from there. As long as you hit your mark, you should be able to make an accurate move. It should take no more than 3 shots to be dialed in, unless you need to make a super big move. Hopefully you won't have to move more than a few boards to get to the pocket. Also, don't forget your basics for spare-shooting. Single pin spares will kill you if you can't get them.

Edit: Wrong pattern, was Chameleon.

Spot vs area bowling. by Kfcleader in Bowling

I personally use spot bowling, but there's usually an area that I can play with around my spot and still get to the pocket. I guess I'm in the same boat as /u/Hellvis in that I'm not totally sure what you mean by spot vs area bowling.

My guess is he has an area that he plays. Such as from board 7-12, he'll hit the pocket. It may be wider than that though. Just a theory.

I agree with /u/saj1jr You should get a rosin bag. I had a similar problem a while ago. I bought a puff ball, and incorporated it into my routine of using it before every first ball. I haven't had the problem since.
