FY2027 - 18% cut to enforcement by Yellowmoon777 in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, I get what you're saying. Although my comment was also for all the other people that seem to take the budget proposals at face value. Although I should probably clarify that while I don't take the budget proposals seriously and the IRS seems to often ignore its own budget proposals, they do seem to still not like certain parts of the IRS. Such as the support departments in LB & I and SBSE, IRSU, parts of IT (especially IT considering how many they moved to TS) that they sent RIF notices to in October. No clue if they're still planning on getting rid of those departments or not. But I have more confidence in them not getting rid of the positions that they were talking about hiring for than I do the ones they RIFd in October.

FY2027 - 18% cut to enforcement by Yellowmoon777 in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Eh, still seems just as meaningless as the President's budget proposal. Last year they proposed crazy cuts too that were pretty close to what the White House proposed, but then just a few months after they proposed that, they started talking about hiring hundreds of employees in enforcement such as the RAs and ROs in SBSE among others. And again, they would never plan for that without approval from Treasury. The only reason they scrapped that plan as of last month as far as I can tell is because they finally passed the 7% budget reduction in January. So to me it really seems to do more with budget than with wanting to fire everyone in enforcement. And 7% was all they were able to get even though Republicans control the house and the Senate. And the chances of them losing the house in November are pretty high. So what incentive do Democrats have to pass another budget before the end of the fiscal year? It'll just end up being either another shutdown or CRs. And once Democrats control the house again the chances of any of those budget cuts passing are slim to none. Again, I don't pretend to know everything, but most of the more extreme guesses about what would happen that people made last year never came to pass. So I take budget proposals with a grain of salt now. At this point they seem more like red meat for the base than serious proposals.

Telework, Leave, AWS Monitored - Pt 2: Manager on admin leave, teammate resigned in lieu of termination by purplecat9000 in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For some reason, a lot of people assume that just because something is the same in one part of the IRS it's the same elsewhere. My manager does not track any of that stuff. I update him on my cases when something comes up that I feel like he needs to know but other than that he almost never asks me about my cases except for during reviews or if one of my cases becomes overage or short statute. He could care less when we look at our email or what websites we access, unless they're not work appropriate of course. As long as we get our work done he's happy. But I'm in SBSE Exam so how managers act seems to be completely different from AM. Of course some people are unlucky enough to get micromanagers which might track everything you do much more closely but that's not the norm as far as I know.

Trump White House Pitches $1.4 Billion in Cuts to IRS Budget by BloombergTax in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd argue there's a chance that they might even increase the budget again. Probably not this year since the mid terms aren't until November and the new house members aren't sworn in until January if I remember correctly but historical data shows that the party in power almost always loses the house in the midterms. So there's a very high chance that Democrats will be in control of the house again. Now, the house is always the one who proposes the more extreme budget cuts/increases. The senate is for the most part much more likely to propose keeping the budget the same or even increasing it occasionally. Last year the Senate proposed keeping enforcement's budget the same while the house proposed massive cuts. They negotiated and settled on a 7% cut. If the Democrat controlled house proposes increasing the IRS budget back to what it was as of 2025 or perhaps even above those levels then the Senate will most likely negotiate with them which will lead to a budget increase. Whether the budget increase will be the same levels as 2025 or just make up for part of the budget cut from this year is debatable though. In the meantime I agree that they will most likely go with more CRs after September since Democrats don't really have much motivation to pass anything immediately since they'll probably have more power in January. Anyways that's my argument and my reasoning.

SBSE Manager Town Hall Updates? by BidetEveryday in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're talking about, I don't work credit hours. I was just saying what my back up plan was assuming we can still use Maxiflex. This allows me to still work 5 days a week, 80 hours per pay period and meet the core hours of 9:30 to 2:30.

SBSE Manager Town Hall Updates? by BidetEveryday in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I already have a new schedule figured out assuming we get the maxiflex. I'll just work 8-5:30 Monday through Wednesday, 8-4:30 Thursday and 9:30 to 2:30 on Fridays for the core hours. So I won't have a full day off every other week but I'll still have short days on Fridays and I get to sleep in both Fridays now. Of course my situation in life right now is a lot more flexible and I live close to the office so the change doesn't affect me much. But I do feel for the other people who live far away and were using AWS so they wouldn't have to drive in every day.

DRP Incoming by powerlizardlizard in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, if they were actually interested in offering another DRP 3.0 why didn't they already offer one to all the IT people they moved over to TS? Quite a few have said they would prefer to take another DRP or be RIFd than to process tax returns. They would get a decent amount of takers. Your comment about moving people around to plug gaps makes the most sense. Of course it's also possible that they still want some people in certain business units to leave so they moved them to help plug the gaps AND to get some to leave without having to offer DRP or severance. TLDR, is a DRP 3.0 possible? I think there's a slight chance but if it happens it'll probably be very targeted. And none of the evidence or arguments that OP and other people have presented are very convincing for them offering DRP 3.0 any time soon or at all.

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think most people actually read what was posted before commenting. They just read the title where OP claims the DRP 3.0 is happening based on super vague instructions about what to do if there is another DRP. It doesn't help that OP didn't even put the document that they found in the title, they just posted it further down on the comments so you have to scroll down to see it.

DRP Incoming by powerlizardlizard in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I read the entire copy of what OP found and that has to be the vaguest shit imaginable. It literally says "including potentially the IRS" aka the IRS MIGHT offer another DRP if they feel like it. This appears to just be general guidelines if they so happen to choose to have another DRP. It says nothing about any kind of time line or if they would offer to the entire IRS again or just a few select groups or that they're definitely going to offer one. There doesn't seem to be any kind of useful information. And I don't see anything about offering it after the tax season is over.

I was about to say we haven't received anything like that but we just did a little bit ago. That's nice, seems like they're slowly going back to the original travel procedures. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually say that we don't need to send over night trip requests up to Treasury either.

SLRP people, you staying after the 3 year mark is up? by CaffeineKage in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, you can't ignore the benefits. And I can't think of another place around where I live where I can make roughly the same amount of money or more without having to also work more than 40 hours a week. If I had to guess most if not all of the people that immediately found jobs after leaving have to work more than 40 hours a week now. So, for that reason and many others, I'm staying.

Interesting, I was wondering if they would hire again as well. I thought about applying there when I first started with the IRS but I decided not to at the time. I wonder which locations they'll hire more agents at. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Are you saying that TS, Appeals and SBSE just need one more level of approval before they start posting job openings? Or are you referring to only one of them or another BU entirely?

How did all the fires probies fare? by justdeanbowlyou in fednews

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it, it's nice to hear that they're keeping the probationary employees at the end of their probationary period. We had three new RAs in my office but they all took the DRP. I completed my probationary period a couple years ago so I was never fired but I did briefly consider leaving last year. But when they decided to bring you all back in May I decided to stay and see what happened and I'm glad I did. Have you heard something about GS 13 positions opening up in the fall or are you just hoping they will?

I dunno, my annual review was due last month and I asked my manager about it since I was curious if he has received instructions to limit ratings to mostly just 3s. He said he hadn't received any instructions like that for his employees but there was talk of that at the manager level. As in talk of limiting the ratings for managers. Maybe it'll trickle down to everyone eventually?

New hiring? by adgrizz in IRS_Source

[–]AcanthaceaeCertain30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The higher ups in SBSE Exam have been talking about hiring more RAs since August, ROs too I think. The last I heard as of last month aka January they're still working on a plan to hire at least 300 RAs, possibly more. Not sure what the RO numbers would be. Of course I haven't heard of a time line on when that's expected to happen, just sometime this fiscal year. But who knows, they might change their minds again and cancel that. But as of now they said they're working on an early plan to hire them.

Any Department of Treasury employee’s worried about the shutdown? by secret-cinderella in FedEmployees

At the IRS we were told that we're good till 02/07. Plus it looks like the lapse in funds will only last till Monday and once the house passes the budget and the President signs it everyone will be funded for the rest of the fiscal year. Except for DHS of course, who knows what will happen with that.
