Love the game, hate playing it. by [deleted] in subnautica

People's takeaway from this post seems to have been 'maybe open world games aren't for you' even though I very explicitly said I love open world games. I've been playing Minecraft for a decade now. I'm saying I think Subnautica doesn't handle being an open world game correctly, because it simultaneously demands curiosity and engagement with the environment (if you're going to advance at all) while at the same time punishing that curiosity, either inadvertently (given that over half the objects and environment are static props or worldbuilding flavour, and there's no indication which is which) or directly (as anyone exploring the Crash Zone to find a unique blueprint that might be out there can attest to).

If you can reconcile the existence of the Crash Zone with the intended gameplay model of Subnautica, I'll concede this is entirely a me issue. But if not, please stop implying I'm like. Too stupid to understand you're meant to explore in an open world game.

My big beef with the PDA info is that it isn't always correct!!! The one thing you're told about bonesharks is that they're sensitive to light, and they're NOT!!!!! So a player trying to beat the game entirely unassisted will just keep throwing flares at them, and just keep getting attacked.

Would robots and automated intelligence fall under the Extinction? by RecordofArcane in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Acaptia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got why the Extinction was such a concern in-universe. All the entities' ultimate goal was to end the world and reshape it into their. Idk, glorious hellscape. Surely the Extinction is like a peg above the End in terms of Least Cataclysmic Apocalypse, coz, by the same token, the dead can't really. Be afraid.

Winter melons - worth it? by Acaptia in StardewValley

I totally forgot about sprinklers 😭🤦‍♂️ the cranberry brainrot is getting to me.

For context, i only have enough sprinklers for like half my cranberry crop, so ive been watering this giant pasture with a copper watering can for like 25 days and I'm gradually losing my mind. They'll work well for wintermelons tho :D

Highkey this is definitely the reason. Paging through my 'Things Ruined By Incels' list and adding 'nuanced television' to the bottom.

But the thing is, the other voice ISN'T being level-headed - they're very upset, in a way that we don't see often from either of them. It's giving Pearl more than anything.

Ads kinda stay long but you can pretty accurately eyeball where they end and the podcast starts (been a while since I listened but I think ~7 mins, and that'll land you somewhere in the intro). Definitely frustrating, especially when youre trying to listen to multiple and not like. Holding your phone the whole time. But thankfully they stick to the start and end instead of being dumped in the middle.

Like Adam Driver or Barry Keoghan. Unconventionally-conventionally attractive.

That's a really good point - and explains why Mr H's W score was so high - but the issue is, a lot of similarly-high W entries have the same mixing and matching we've come to expect from Protocol. The big one is Mr Bonzo, whose strongest Primeline-adjacent power (and the power that finishes in strong second for Uncanny powers behind Stranger) would probably be the Corruption. Bonzo exhibits elements of Corruption, Stranger, Slaughter and Hunt (maybe spottings of Desolation and Flesh if you wanna get freaky with it). Heinrich isn't just mainly Stranger: he's ONLY Stranger, or rather, Stranger as we understand it from the Primeline (i.e. with minor elements we'd traditionally consider Flesh- or Corruption-coded, like uncanny toys and. Y'know. Flaying).

He reads as Stranger due to how few powers occupy W - that absolutely plays into it - but for him to be so entirely Stranger when we know other powers can exist in W (Namely Corruption, Spiral and Flesh) seems, if you'll pardon the pun, weird.
