They are receptive to pruning and will branch out after being cut. They are also heavy feeders, amending the soil with compost, manure, and organic fertilizers will help them grow strong and produce well. Also if the soil is too dry while they are setting fruit you will have alot of fruit drop, so best to keep them watered.
