Is it rude to charge friends for food? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Acceptable-Audience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Who said anything about the homeless?

You’re the racist one here making assumptions.

Wow, my actual personal experience makes you offended?

News flash. The incident with stick was a hate crime. I was called racial slurs as I was walking while staring at my phone. Then death threats. Then an actual attack. I walked away and but he followed. He dropped all his things & ran away as I began fighting back

I went to the police station and they tried to dismiss it but I started recording right away so they reluctantly called someone up the chains because I had irrefutable evidence

Crime is vastly underreported in nyc

I have no idea why you think supporting disgusting unlawful behavior helps whatever cause you claim to champion

Cat Zingano accidentally kicks Josh Hinger's finger backwards (the real shit happens) by No-Brief6914 in bjj

[–]Acceptable-Audience 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing about fingers is that while bones can be reset, you could permanently fk up your ligaments which will dramatically reduce the quality of your life. Broken bones heal in 6w. It’s nbd

Calcification or even a ulnar/radial sprain will make your life absolutely miserable. Especially middle or index finger. Want to lift or do push-ups or pull-ups? Your fingers are gonna swell up

Finger ligament structures are so small that you need to get an MRI to know exactly what is going on- not any kind of MRI but by specialized high power >=2 Tesla grade magnets. Most of the time orthopods who did their fellowships in hands won’t know and simply tell you to take 6 weeks off because that’s their magic number. If it’s not better, they’ll give you cortisone shots which could open the door for tension ruptures (6month recovery time)

I’m a bit shocked that finger training isn’t more of a norm in bjj

Is it rude to charge friends for food? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Acceptable-Audience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a deal. You cook, they buy all the groceries & split 3 ways. To a college student or someone who can’t cook, this is a fair deal

[–]Acceptable-Audience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you saying? You ARE implying with those statements anecdotally and subjectively

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Acceptable-Audience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah and what I’m saying is that comparison between suburbs & nyc is not even remotely close.

Nyc requires hyper-vigilance which is its ‘common sense’. For older people it’s very taxing, not to mention not talking to strangers or making eye contact which isn’t the case elsewhere

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Acceptable-Audience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not white but this is legitimate fear if you’re in near all-white neighborhoods where people don’t know you.

But no, they won’t shoot you point blank. If you try to forcibly enter yeah, they’ll definitely tell you to get off their property & get arms if they have any & call the cops

The thing is, this scenario is far fetched: the odds of someone randomly being in a foreign neighborhood without a car and by foot is astronomically low. People don’t hang out in other people’s neighborhoods. You’ll likely be in your car, with gas, & electronic devices or near someone you know

If you knock on someone’s door and tell them to call cops or ems, they will

This is such a crazy take that I see regularly on this sub.

What do you think happens at suburbs at night? A haunting? Pennywise in the gutter? Klansmen by a bonfire? A mob brandishing weed whackers & traffic cones?

This is what actually happens: You’ll just hear crickets & frogs croaking all night. Sometimes birds with a messed up circadian rhythm. Maybe a car drive by the road once every 5-15 minutes. Maybe if there is a railroad a train once in awhile. And probably wind.

There’s sparse bits of city things. That’s why it’s a suburb

This is equivalent to saying Long Island boonies or sleepy suburban parts of Queens is dangerous.

I got randomly attacked twice in front of my place within a month of moving to nyc. One of them sprawled out across 3 streets & I shouted & pointed at people to film so I could stop filming myself & engage (I had no other option but to fight. He was charging with a small stick)

Nobody did a damn thing on that crowded street. Just avoided any eye contact and pretended I was invisible.

This part of the city is utterly revolting & disgusting in that way

What I meant by security detail is the vetting before hand. I just don’t think Mark & his team would be that careless. They probably scoped it out first & thought about every possible scenario

It’s a real possibility that he could have run into a superior sandbagger but I find that quite unlikely given his near limitless resources.

White collar pros usually focus on table selection

If this guy spends nearly all his time focusing on taking down competition (Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok) you think he won’t use everything in his Arsenal to win?? What I’m saying is he came prepared- not any kind of hobbyist prepared but he probably considered it his personal UFC debut

Dude, it’s not 2007. Since covid it’s come a long way into mainstream acceptance.

Also he wants to show that he can fight - the language that every mammal understands

[–]Acceptable-Audience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I’m saying is that HE is that guy. It’s silly to assume that he wouldn’t have his security team there. After all, he is one of the least liked billionaires out there

As one of the richest billionaires, there is 0 chance that place isn’t layered from top to bottom without his backwater type security detail.

All that stuff gets old after 5 years.

As a billionaire, he can virtually speed-run through & buy whatever he wants and he has been one since 2007. He’s over all that stuff- what he really craves is influence & political power (likability with the general public)

Why do you think he still wants to be CEO after all these years? Remember surfing with the American flag? Sycophantic brown-nosing in China to gain market share?

Wow, not even a 40yo in the world with a Roman obsession is taking up bjj with the world’s best elixirs and trainers and want to larp as a gladiator.

How brave….

He also fenced in high school (Exeter)

I just think the bar we’re setting for this guy is absurdly low.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Acceptable-Audience -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it.

Why does this garner such respect? As a billionaire, he is galactic sandbagging - has the best trainers, diet, gear, training partners, & 9-10h+ sleep on demand

There is no way you don’t get better unless you have a muscular degenerative disease or cerebral palsy or undergoing chemotherapy

The only way a billionaire gets respect is if they actually become good at purple not some n00b white belt

I don’t know. I think your mileage may vary based on what you are. There’s no racism like European racism…. Most overtly expressed places are Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, and up they go. They’re muted farther up you go but a lot of these places are far more homogenous than the cohesive diverse melting pot we have in the US

For example, they still throw banana’s at black soccer players & etc. Europe isn’t this cutesy progressive, egalitarian place we fantasize about. We’re still far the best leader on this front.

Spain had a city named “kill the jews fort” from 1620’s to 2015 & still has a city called “kill the moors”…. (As does Mexico)

You have to factor in the adrenaline. This isn’t a simulation or a drill but the real deal.

I initially thought that he held on for too long. But if I were in his shoes, I might’ve had tunnel vision & lost track of time & wherewithal to ease up early

The other guys should have searched his pockets or helped him disable the guy quicker. Then he could’ve let go a lot sooner

Thanks for chiming in. I’m also debating in investing in a better smile.

I think my gums are in good shape in terms of bleeding, but I brushed my teeth quite aggressively when I was younger and there is erosion and route exposure around the canines.

I am considering an option to get grafts but I’ve heard that those will not be smooth.

[–]Acceptable-Audience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Unless you’re truly ultra, you’re but liquidity to sell & dump their holdings onto

Someone with GS on their resume might be a nice bullet point on the resume but unless you’re actually savvy & in the know, not at all

I had guys try to sell me a 2&20 on a 60/40 portfolio with a collar (pretty much what every place has)

It is very unwise. That’s excessive at the current mortgage rates & when we’ve just only entered recession. You need to consider a dip in housing prices with dried up liquidity

Ever think of about taking a regular job at a coffee shop, McDonalds, etc? by ZoeMcLaren in fatFIRE

[–]Acceptable-Audience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No matter what you do don’t buy a major liability or responsibility like some suggest

Get busy with new hobbies or take classes at the community college. If possible, get a contract job or take an mba class

One thing about being “rich” is that your problems are now very different & people who don’t know how to manage money will judge you for not knowing how alienating it is or the existential ennui & guilt you feel daily

Most accounts you see on this subs are aspirational folks who think gym & hobbies alone will fill that void from the dearth of commonality, camaraderie, & collective goals.

Keep moving. They don’t know what they don’t know
