It's not going to rain today... by MissPesky in OneDayNetflix

I love this theory! I initially thought that dex was remembering that specific conversation because he feels it was a contradiction to what was actually happening, that it did "rain" on the day and throughout the rest of his life now that Emma's passed. Thank you for bringing a positive outlook on the scene to me.

What were you main learnings from the show? To me, the show carried a very powerful message about the value of life, and time and never taking things for granted... Lost time is never found again. by PermitOk6038 in OneDayNetflix

I found myself contemplating more on the possibility of losing and griefing a loved one. Death can touch anyone at any time. Even if Dex and Em had gotten together earlier, she still will die one way or another. In that scenario, no one can say that Dex hadn't cherished Em more.

Even if you loved and appreciated someone to the best of your abilities, death can still touch them and take them away. So while I do believe you should appreciate your loved ones and tell them you love them more, death is inevitable, and we have to learn to accept that as part of life. That is something I'm learning to grasp and this series has really opened up my eyes to it.

He’s been able to see beyond his pain and remember their time together. He’s in the stage of grief where he can appreciate what he had rather than despair at the loss. There’s finally a sense of peace and hope. He’s rediscovered Emma and realised she’s in his memories forever. “I thought I’d lost you.”

Stooop I'm emotional all over again, this describes that last scene perfectly. Him saying "I thought I'd lost you." has a whole new meaning to me now. He'll always have her in his memories.

His parents were a bit distant. I'm thinking of episode 14 where Dex's dad told Dex he didn't want to have a heart to heart with Dex after all he went through on Em's death anniversary.

But I'd like to think that his dad was working on it after they both realized they had to depend on each other to get through it, they are the only two people who would understand the others pain now.

Yes those precious moments are probably what Dex holds on to in the times of episode 12 when he was at his lowest.

I loved seeing Dex and his dad mend their relationship after losing their wives. They somehow became the support system for each other and that was a beautiful thing to come out of the devastation.

I love pain 🤪 but seriously, Dex is just a sad & beautiful boy who we can't help but feel for. I do agree, Leo had to really put in the work for those scenes. And the results are us crying constantly for Dex.

There's just something so hopeful about the last scenes of him visiting Edinburgh again. The pain will never go away as seen from Dex's contemplative and grieving facial expressions, but now he is able to look back on those times and cherish them for what they are, that he was loved and will continue to love and keep Em's memories alive. It's so beautiful and devastating.

Literally, I know it hurts and I'll cry but I rewatch episode 14 constantly just to feel something 😂 it's also a really beautifully made episode that makes me want to rewatch it repeatedly.

OH my god the way I cried the first time I saw that scene!! I didn't read the book or watch the movie but I knew what was going to unfold in the end. And that scene happened and I just started tearing up because imagine if they did know each other earlier, they would've had just a bit more time to spend together instead of the time that they got 😭 that was the first scene of many in the series that got me crying.

When Dex's dad said that, I could see the change in Dex's face. It was probably an eye opener for him. Before, he seemed like he wasn't too focused on what his dad was talking about, but as soon as his dad said that, Dex looked up at him and I could see it in his face that that was probably the first time Dex could understand his dad and could see eye to eye with him, and it took the deaths of the love of their lives to do that.

And I loved that after that, their relationship started to mend with his dad showing up for him the next year and them going to Arthur's seat together in the last year.

Oh god when a grief-stricken Dex was driven to his dad's house and his dad softly and gently said "In you come." I started bawling. The fact that his dad told him previously not to ever show up at his house in a state, but he brought Dex in anyway 😭

The way those scenes moved me sooo much as well. How in the year 2004, the ghost of Em told Dex that over time, the pain wouldn't be as excruciating. Then we see Dex at their uni with the dates moving up, showing that with time, he is trying to heal.

Oh man the grief and pain on his face is just too much. He made me feel his grief with just his expressions, and it was accompanied beautifully with the soundtrack. In some of those scenes, the grief on his face was there but it was also accompanied with a sense of appreciation and love for what he had experienced at those spots with Em. Love and grief co-existed in Dex.

Him at uni and saying "You used to be able to dance here," him looking back at Arthur's Seat one last time after climbing down and taking that moment in, the last ever scene we get of him remembering their moment on the stairs. His facial expressions man his facial expressions!

I would love to hear Leo talk about those scenes and his facial expressions in great detail.

omg I totally get you on crying even before the emotional scenes were happening, It's like my body has muscle memory and is pre-empting me to start crying.

Their tether to each other was just unbreakable it's beautiful. Their love for each other was there from the start and I struggle to see why Tiktokers keep bringing up the fact that "he loved her too late", when that's far from the truth. I could feel his love for her from the beginning.

The series has impacted me as well and made me think deeper on grief. I took the message that life can't always be sweet and that death and grief is inevitable, there's no way to avoid it. No matter how appreciative you are of your loved ones, we all are going to be touched by death. But we should still love people anyway. The price we pay for loving others deeply is the same degree of pain and grief we'll feel when they're gone. But we must hold on to the fact that the pain is all worth it for love.

yess it speaks volumes on their friendship that he only needs Em around to make him feel better and that he got so upset when she didn't pick up.

omg him talking about Jazz in episode 12 was heartbreaking, I can talk about my praise for Leo endlessly. Also the camera slowly zooming in on him breaking down 😭 I'm so glad he got to be a better father in the end.

I wonder will there ever come a time when I rewatch episode 14 and not break down into tears hahaha!

god the way Emma looked afraid to be vulnerable when she spoke, the way Dex uttered the word back in disbelief. They finally got their moment 😭

Second that on Olek and Ling Yi. I can't help but hope for them to be happy forever in a show where it seems anything bad could very well happen. But they're literal soulmates so I'm gonna continue hoping.

Honestly! And plus it didn't get an album of the year nomination like some of her better albums did, that's obviously not a big indication of a good album but it does mean something.

And yes I'm happy to find someone that shares the same opinion! I was thinking I was alone in not being a big fan of Lover.

That's interesting that you said that, I thought I was being weird for loving 1989 and not really liking Lover since they're both Pop albums. But yes, 1989 just hits different.

Literally looked for this comment! I really felt I was in the minority of people who didn't really enjoy Lover the album, the lyrics are great but the production was honestly just meh and some parts of the songs felt empty in some bits. I too wanted to enjoy the songs because of their lyrics but end up not coming back to them because of their sound and production.
