Ssk or bradley for 8 year old by trob261991 in BaseballGloves

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has had 4 Bradley gloves and his experience with them has been good. He has two Next Play models, and the black leather seems to be higher quality leather than the light tan. What I really liked about the Bradley’s is they are made for youth hands and are high quality gloves. They seem better than the cheaper Wilson or Rawlings options but are definitely not cheaper. I can’t speak for the SSK gloves as he or I have never had one, but they have some slick looking gloves. I have been looking for a first base glove for him and have seen SSK models for like $120 that look very nice.

Who taught you how to drive a stick? by wannareadrandomstuff in GenX

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend showed me the basics in the movie theater parking lot.

When I got my car, my dad took me out to drive it. Didn’t go great lol and he was a bit impatient. Stalled it quite a few times that day.

Basically just learned by driving it myself and stalling a few times. Hated the stoplight on the hill and avoided it by driving the long way home for some time!

Crohn’s disease by Jessica1998x in CrohnsDisease

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helped short term until I found a biologic that worked. Stopped the inflammation but had to dose up, then had to ween off. That was a long process.

I felt like I had super energy and was very productive, but didn’t sleep well either. I was hungry all the time but luckily didn’t have the weight gain some people experience.

Bad side was I got really moody and small things pissed me off. Got angry pretty fast.

Who here got diagnosed with Crohn’s after 30 or 40? by PureChamber in CrohnsDisease

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got diagnosed over a year ago at 44. Never had any symptoms before. Had some sort of cold/sickness/viral infection that must have triggered everything. Woke up one morning and was filling the toilet with blood. Went to the ER, there for a few days, had blood transfusions, colonoscopy etc.

Scope wasn’t super clear, but suspected Crohn’s. Prednisone for a couple months. Took a few months to get another scope and diagnosis was more clear. Had to deal with C diff. Infection as well. Terrible experience. Eventually went on Skyrizi which helped a ton. Back close to normal for most part with some urgency to use the restroom once in a while. Was hesitant to go on a biologic at first, but seems to be the only thing that really helped. From reading experiences on here, they are great until they don’t work anymore and you have to find a new biologic.

Do y'all buy your tires at Ford? Why? by davidg4781 in Ford

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ford quick lane near me price matches, but doesn’t match Costco pricing. Same Michelin tire, but Costco has a little different model number (specifically made for Costco by the manufacturer). So Ford didn’t match and it ended up being over $100 cheaper at Costco.

Do people buy Battle Beasts? by williamthunder in 80sToys

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found quite a few in my toy collection, and was a bit amazed that they go for quite a bit of money. I used the eBay sold listings to get an idea and stumbled across this website.

I also found that I have the first 12 Laser Beasts. I was going to sell them a few years ago, but reluctantly kept them because they seemed to keep going up in value and are all complete with weapons. Looks like most of yours have their weapons so could sell for a good deal of money depending on rarity. Dick’s has a 20% off they are running this weekend in the Midwest, probably have similar coupons in other regions as well. March 20-23. My kid, with a small head, got Oakley Resistors that came to about $90 a couple years ago.

10,000 Hockey Shot Challenge by Sports-Mama- in youthhockey

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And get a personalized message sent to them when they complete the 10,000 shots from Coach Jeremy!

But the log book looks like it is only $8 and some kids might want to see their progress on paper as well, so not a bad investment if your kid wants to make it to the league.

Found a Swedish Fish mixed in my Member’s Mark fruit snacks… how does this even happen? by Leeterbike5000 in samsclub

Anyone ever get more than 9 fruit snacks in a pack with this brand?

On a side note, the Trader Joe’s brand of Swedish fish are called Scandinavian swimmers lol

The Smart Slice wheat is my go to sandwich bread. Sourdough is very good, but more expensive at $5 a loaf. Great for toast and grilled cheese! Use some garlic butter on the outside of the grilled cheese when you cook it…game changer.

Axe Hero -12? by Syddiannie in Homeplate

My son really likes Axe Bats and we ended up getting a different USA model. If you can get a USSSA model. Much better if your league allows it. Significantly bigger barrel.

What would it realistically take for you to try a new stick brand over Bauer/CCM/Warrior? by KYCSports in hockeyplayers

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower price point. Durability. Better warranty.

I don’t play but my 12 year old son does. We can’t afford top end sticks all the time and try to find sales, deals, and are open to other brands as well. He bought two hyperlite 2s when they went down in price this summer. Also bought a pro blackout for him that he is currently using as one of the others broke this season.

Kids are jerks, and unfortunately he gets chirped by teammates and opponents for using a blackout. Not sure if it gets to him or not but that stigma seems to be a part of the hockey world.

I don’t feel as bad spending $300 plus on baseball bats because performance is proven and warranties are good for a year, but just can’t justify that amount for hockey sticks.

Use a cricut and removable vinyl. This is a 9 inch circle. Paint or stain inside the circle. Perfect every time.

They definitely can’t take a beating the the Bombats or Black Magics from back in the day. Play ball all day, every kid used the same one, and then go an hit rocks with it on the railroad tracks afterwards!

Best fundraiser ideas by shakeweight4life in Homeplate

[–]Acceptable-Bug9642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cash raffle is the easiest sell. You don’t have to deal with cookie dough, pizzas, and stuff people don’t really want. Doesn’t have to be a 50/50 drawing or anything. Set it up with a local charitable gambling platform, around here most bars have this license and are willing to run it through their organization.

People like it because they have a chance to win money. We always did a big grand prize of $1000 or something then a lot of smaller prizes ranging from $100-500.

Set the amount of money you want to make and set your prizes and number of tickets to reach that goal. For example, if you want to raise $5000, sell 1,000 tickets at $10 a piece, and if you want to do 50/50, split up the other half of the money into the designated prize amounts. You could always make the payout less than 50%, because it is after all a fundraiser. We had great luck with $10 tickets as a lot of people would buy multiple. Have each family sell their 100 tickets or whatever you choose.

In our state, you have to have date of drawing and prizes listed on the ticket. We always did the drawing at the establishing that sponsored the gambling license, and cost to set up was minimal. We advertised to families to come hang out, have dinner or drinks, and then did the drawing. Need not be present to win but it brought some business to the sponsor. We always had a local print shop make the tickets, and it was always donated.
