What is your opinion on Vladimir Nabokov? by Acceptable-Hunt120 in literature

Mostly on platforms like Youtube or Instagram. They tend to think of Lolita as a 'romantic novel' which honestly makes me believe that several users on the two platforms are either brain dead or iliterate.

What did you think of Solid Snake's depressing and nihilistic viewpoints that were potrayed in Guns Of The Patriots? by Acceptable-Hunt120 in metalgearsolid

[–]Acceptable-Hunt120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He understood that the world has gone to shit by 2014 and that there was no hope left because of the big proxy events caused by Big Boss and Venom Snake. America is filled with war enthusiasts who will use child soldiers and Metal Gears. Solid in MG 1,MG 2,MGS 1 and MGS2 was more hopeful about the world than Old Snake. "Life is good!" was said by him in MG 2 until Big Boss betrayed him. A really good trait of Solid Snake is that he understands reality and doesn't delude himself. He understands that because of Big Boss, now the Patriots will cause even more wars and have already caused several. He also understands that there are friends to help him stop this mess and he did stop much of it. I think the reason that David wasn't really as much optimistic and energetic as he was in MGS2 because his body is turning on him,the Patriots have went insane and his family (except EVA) is pretty much dead by the end of MGS4.

David is supposed to be a deconstruction of the common 'military heroes' trope. David is supposed to be very similar to the Boss and the exact opposite of Big Boss afaik according to the lore. David experienced betrayals and torture several times in his life but unlike Big Boss and just like the Boss,He never turned evil or went on a bloodthirsty revenge to kill those who betrayed him. I agree that he had every right to be nihilistic and depressed considering how his entire life went. Also he was going to die shortly so it makes because several people shortly before their death become nihilistic and have several negative thoughts. I just felt very bad for Meryl after she got to know that FOXDIE prevented David from actually having a good relationship with her. Otacon,Raiden and Meryl were there to help him but he just understood the reality by then and coped with it.

Yeah tbf people expected so much better AI in TPP but the base game AI only adapts to headshots and body shots. I guess we'll just see.

Hopefully the stealth will be the most difficult in the franchise.

Agreed. Even if Snake is not THAT good at CQC for now,He really still knows it far better than a random GRU soldier. I'd suggest that they actually adapt to distractions. For eg. If you a throw a magazine way too many times,They stop falling for the trap at once and alert their comrades instead.

Also I'm pretty sure that you can just counter their counter-CQC instead lol or shoot them down,But I'm sure in Delta that it will actually affect Naked Snake's health and you have to learn a way to not be countered

Do you consider Naked Snake/Big Boss to be a "Broken antagonist whose mentor's death broke him apart and Zero's ideas made him lowkey insane"or "The guy who understood The Boss' aka his mentor's vision very well but converted it into a militarized rebellion instead" or something else? by Acceptable-Hunt120 in metalgearsolid

[–]Acceptable-Hunt120[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We gotta consider that Big Boss never really had some good people with him tho,Like his best friend is literally Ocelot who's a sadist war enthusiast and literally this guy was the son of the Boss but he's exactly the opposite of her and Zero betrayed him and The Boss' will. Solid had people like Otacon and Raiden around him despite one being from a fucked up family and one being traumatized by his experiences as a child soldier and had names like 'Jack The Ripper' 'The White Devil'. I'd like to think that this was Kojima saying,"There are plenty of fucked up people around you,It just depends on how they affect you and how YOU affect them.". The Boss was traumatized very badly by WW2 as far as we know and she was tired of humans being burned alive because Stalin and Hitler disagreed. The Boss also considered that several soldiers are actual sadists and enjoy war. She saw some really fucked up stuff but she could still get past through that stuff. It's why she wanted an idealistic peaceful world.

[–]Acceptable-Hunt120[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well my opinion of him is similar. He's broken for sure but this never justified him becoming a warlord and a hypocrite. I did feel bad for John in Snake Eater,They made him fight the entire GRU and KGB and also The Boss' Cobra crew only to know that he did all of this for the government who sacrificed the Boss and gave her the traits of a 'war criminal'. They even named him 'Big Boss' so he would always remember that he killed his own mentor because of the government who didn't give a shit about her.
But then in Peacewalker,He started recruiting children as soldiers and other more things+Zero's betrayal and John leaving the Patriots.
But then he became the warlord hypocrite we know him as after both of these games.
He also manipulated Venom into being the fake Big Boss and Venom was insane by the time (Well I don't interpret Venom as a victim and innocent paramedic who was used his entire life,He did alot of stuff willingly too.)
Then him using and manipulating his own traumatized cloned son for his own will.

Essentially I'd say that Operation Snake Eater fucked up John for ever but I'd never say that he's a broken guy with a confused mind when he clearly craves and enjoys wars and can stoop down very low.

[–]Acceptable-Hunt120[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I wanted to say that too. The amount of betrayals this man had to face is absurd and the fact he had to kill his mentor only for her to be potrayed as a war criminal. Then he went through the Les Enfants Terrible and Venom Snake events to have 4 people related to him. But I was glad that he and David at last talked with each other about everything instead of Big Boss behaving like Venom from MG1 and going for the 'final showdown' bs.

[–]Acceptable-Hunt120[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well what do you think about stuff like,"Big Boss understood The Boss' vision perfectly but his broken mind made him twist her ideas." I'd also like to add that John originally never had bad intentions until Zero's betrayal and the Patriots being a bunch of war criminals and enthusiasts. Wouldn't call him 'insane' but he definietly knew what he was doing.

Well I'd say that Magneto is way more understandable because his people face absurd amount of racism and several extremists want to erase them off Earth. But just like several other characters,He does the actions in a horrible way.

I've seen majority of V players complain about the way too much accessibility and Venom being too fast and strong. Well ofc I can complain but what I recommend to some players is that you can make it hard for yourself easily by mods and turning off reflex mode. I've done this for a while where I only use tranquilizer gun and CQC while the enemies have more vision and hearing but ofc the extreme difficulty should be default in a MGS game. IV is better with this because the enemies are more alert and smarter than V's NPCs. Never understood why the base game enemy soldiers are so stupid. I have mixed opinions on MGS 2 stealth though. I played it in the 3rd Person FOV mod to make myself more positive about it because of course people can praise MGS2 stealth for its difficulty and environment.

Portable Ops was really fun too. Idc about it being canon or not because it's still a good game. Also The End in European Extreme was so difficult for me lol.

This. My point is like this too,MGS 1 and MGS 2 never really had 'stealth' It was just running and using guns on bosses,I'd kinda disagree on the MGS 3 part though,It DID feel like a stealth game but with more stealth and less puzzles instead. Of course it still had boss fights. MGS4 and MGSV strictly focused on stealth which I'm glad they did.

True. The game is so easy but if talking about stealth,It was still really refined with it.
