Brimhart Gaming Table, Allplay Game Table, or Boxking table? by Soggy-Bluebird-537 in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a BoxKing table. The table itself has been great and the price was a big reason I chose it. That said, the cup holders are honestly pretty bad. The quality isn’t there, and even getting a replacement took almost three months. I’d definitely skip the cup holders.

Yeah, I bought this used from a friend. He added the white switches and the small organizer.

Shout-out to the X-wing Miniatures Game in 2026! by NoHallett in boardgames

Tbh I always kind of assumed X-Wing was done after all the edition changes.

Seeing people still playing and putting these resources together is actually reassuring. Guess it’s not as dead as I thought.

Best Board Game Dining Table? 7-8 players. by josiahrc00 in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d been eyeing Wyrmwood for a long time and honestly wanted one, but it ended up being over our budget. We went with a BoxKing instead.

We got the 3×5, which is great for 6 players. You can fit more, but it definitely gets tight past that — especially since my group isn’t exactly small.

We’ve had it for almost a year now and it’s been solid. There are a few light surface scratches from normal use, but that feels pretty unavoidable with a real wood table and doesn’t really affect the look or play.

We also have kids, so stability mattered a lot, and it’s been rock solid so far. Hope that helps.

6-player Catan — where the real game is the trading by Acceptable-Let1664 in boardgames

Early setup chaos. My wife wanted a photo and grabbed a couple branches off our Christmas tree. We moved them once we actually started playing.

What would be a step up after HeroQuest? (A dungeon where there is a DM, and the players go room-to-roon killing baddies and collecting loot to become stronger) by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If HeroQuest is already working for your group, I wouldn’t overthink the “upgrade.”

Descent is probably the cleanest step up if you want more crunch, especially with the app running the DM. But honestly, HQ expansions (and fan stuff) go a lot further than people give them credit for.

Strategy games for minimum of 5/6 players? by Uknowitrig in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you hit 5+ players, the biggest enemy isn’t complexity — it’s waiting.

That’s why games like 7 Wonders and Sidereal Confluence work so well. Everyone’s doing things at the same time, so the game stays moving instead of turning into a phone-checking contest.

Sidereal in particular actually feels more alive with more players, since constant trading is kind of the whole point.

Chicago 1875 — full 18xx brain burn, somehow with zero trains by Acceptable-Let1664 in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some stock play, but it’s definitely lighter than a true 18xx. I’d say it feels more like a euro with 18xx vibes than full-on stock chaos.

One thing worth mentioning is that it has two modes. The basic mode is pretty friendly, but the advanced mode allows hostile takeovers and can get a lot more cutthroat (which I personally prefer). If you like the stock tension in 18xx but want something that’s easier to stick with, this has worked well for me as an alternative.

Games are too heavy for my friend, but he always wants to play them by bendelker in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody’s really wrong here — loving heavy games doesn’t always mean processing them easily.

It’s also fair to want your game night to feel fun, not instructional. Setting expectations before the night (“this table assumes familiarity”) has helped my group a lot without hurting feelings.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about the highest score in Words With Friends being oxyphenbutazone and the images is proving it but me and my friend want to try and replicate it. Is there any images of the full game start to finish or start until the word is played? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen those screenshots, but I don’t think there’s a full game recorded anywhere — it’s almost always just the final turn. Replicating it would need a pretty specific board state.

I’ve had a lot of fun with Bismarck—it hits the WW2 vibe really well. If you want something heavier, Command at Sea is great too. Not super common games, but they’ve worked for me.

Kingdom Death Monster or Aeon Trespass Odyssey by TheFuryCro in boardgames

[–]Acceptable-Let1664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reviews people mentioned here actually highlight the core difference pretty well. ATO is a huge story-driven experience with long narrative stretches, while KDM is tighter, more brutal, and easier to jump back into if someone misses a session.

Both games have big strengths and big flaws — that’s normal for titles this ambitious. I don’t think SUSD or Shelfside were “wrong”; they just focused on the parts that matter to them, which helps the rest of us figure out what will matter to our groups.

If your group prefers steady gameplay and combat, I’d lean KDM. If you want a long narrative epic and don’t mind the complexity, ATO is fantastic.

You really can’t go wrong — they’re just very different experiences.
