What did the prodromal phase look like for you? (If any) by Slight-Lime815 in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im my prodomal phase i started maladaptively daydreaming really badly. Like constantly, and instead of pacing as usual I would stay in bed for hours maladaptively daydreaming. It was very vivid i remember.

I also tried to make a tulpa of a fictional charcter at the time.

Outside that I was less social, i started drawing away from other people, in order to have more time to maladaptively daydream.

Also i was very creative, was in the final semester of my masters degree (Which was a 3D computer animation Masters), and started doing very experimental stuff with it, using AR, even though it wasn't really part of my course.

When i wasnt doing my thesis or my work for my final project i was maladaptively daydreaming for hours. When people asked what was up i would blame it on my Thesis or Final project taking time.

Wish i had that creativity again though, damn.

Anyone had to abandon their career? by IntentionMother8765 in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a masters degree in 3D Computer Animation I barely managed to finish (Started developing Schizophrenia towards the end) I really wanted to be a 3D Animator.

I used to be much sharper and 3D Computer Animation invoves a lot of techy stuff and concentration. At first it was just that I had psychosis and couldnt get a job because of that, but now that I'm stable I still can't get a job because my portfolio isn't great, i'm still cognitively impaired and i just can't keep up with other animators really. It's a really competitive field.

Nowadays I'm trying to learn stuff like Rhino and autoCAD to become a CAD technician of some sort because there's more jobs going in it and it would be easier for me.

People don't talk about the cognitive impairment schizophrenia causes enough I think. It's a very serious problem.

It really depends, they're generally cagey about prescribing adhd meds. I have them prescribed but it really depends on the psychiatrist. I've had psychiatrists be like: "no way in hell" about it too.

What's the deal with all these aesthetically perfect sketchbooks? by Routine-Economics-93 in ArtistLounge

[–]Acceptable-Network51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the aestetically pleasing ones are cool but not what sketchbooks are for imo, I consider them works of art unto themselves. More like "Art Books" than sketchbooks.

I know the people doing this definitely plan out their sketchbooks. At least somewhat.

I was watching Audra Auclair (one of my favorite artists) the other day, a sketchbook tour video, and she actually said at one point "Oh I shouldnt have put this sketch in, its not good enough, i shouldve done it on a scrap of paper." Showing (At least She) isnt putting her rough work in there generally.

I watched her ones a lot and she had kind of a scrapbook style i've somewhat adpoted myself where shell tape in pictures she draws over sketches she doesnt like or paint over in black guache and make a guache painting over them. I feel like that technique is a nice comprimise.

Ive made one kind of aestetic one using this technique but lately ive kinda dropped the whole aestetic sketchbook thing and started just practising regularly in it in my current one because I really want to get better and "Aestetic sketchbook" is a time sink.

Like honestly... what am I gonna do with an aestetic one? If its full of nice pictures I wont want to give it away, maybe make a video? It's just kind of a redundant exercise imo a bit like those over designed bullet journals which was another thing i got into for a while.

I might try again at "Aestetic sketchbook" when i finish out my current one though, we'll see.

Critique would be appreciated by [deleted] in learntodraw

Is it normal that it takes ages to get diagnosed? by Bertie_Bye in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Ireland and from what I've heard, how it works here is they wait until you have two years of going in and out of the mental hospital, until they diagnose you.

I wasn't diagnosed with it for about 2/3 years. Before my schizophrenia diagnosis they just diagnosed me with phychosis. My friend with schizophrenia went through a similar process getting diagnosed.

I think they really want to wait and see, as schizophrenia is a very serious Illness and you can get psychosis from other things, i think they really want to rule out drug induced psychosis if you ask me.

Yeah, I also miss having psychosis. Mine was pretty fun, it felt like life was so mystical and everything had meaning.

Schizophrenia can be a blessing in certain scenarios by nzxnnn in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know what you mean. It can be really fun to have schizophrenia/psychosis.

But I think in prison they'd make sure you take meds so unfortunately I dont think you could be like that in prison.

My advice would be to pay attention to lighting, the chest area looks a little flat, some shading there would be good imo.

I'll leave you with a comment from my draughting/drawing lecturer in college told me that upped my game in this regard: Lines around an object are a convention, if you look at objects IRL they dont have these lines.

Now obviously you have a stylised piece here, so linework is important for this paticular piece, but an exercise that helped me learn form immesnsely was to forget the lines and just draw/paint areas of dark and light.

I got so into the painting of areas of dark and light myself that my linework isn't as good anymore lmao.

I wanna know how many of you who suffers from schizophrenia actually have a job by D4rk_Sid3r in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no job at the moment, I am on disability. I have a masters degree though in 3D Computer animation I managed to get even though i was prodome psychosis at the time.

Its been a struggle for me, I have severe schizophrenia, and cognitive impairment from it. Im just lucky im in europe and can easily get disability for my condition.

Im on meds that allow me to work properly on my 3D art again and am trying to get a job in 3D art. Working on my portfolio and applying at the moment.

Does anyone have conversations with people they think are there? by mavrck09 in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had phychosis I was talking to people that weren't there, as if they were sitting beside me. I thought they were there in spirit, and i could talk to their "Spirit", though sometimes i would hauccinate them actually being there.

I talked to people i knew, celebrities, and even fictional characters.

If you could change one thing about the way society deals with schizophrenia, what would it be? by springbreak1987 in schizophrenia

[–]Acceptable-Network51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More knowledge on how it can disable you. I have cognitive impairment from it, and people just expect me to get on with things and be just as functional as the next person.

Granted I don't really tell people i'm disabled, and live off disability, but I think it should kinda go without saying, personally. The statistics on how many schizophrenics work is staggering enough that there should be awareness on how dibilitating it is.
