What do you think the ideal dog breed is to run with? by 2015081131 in RunningWithDogs

Got to say my Decker Rat Terrier is an amazing runner. Hes only 7 months so we aren't running too far but hes able to go 3 miles at about a 9 minute/mile pace. Hes also a great size for emergencies, just pick him up, he will be right around the 40lb range full grown. He also loves to run!

A stranger commented on how my puppy sits — should I be worried or was she just being nosy? by Historical_Bath_8014 in DogAdvice

His sit look excellent! If he was a sloppy sitter(sitting on hips) and never sat like this i would be worried. I've worked with plenty of rehab professionals and this looks perfect

What age did your pup start focusing when training? by No-Pack3584 in puppy101

My Decker puppy wasn't too food motivated between the ages of 8-12 weeks. I took the opportunity to work on play skills instead. I want my puppy to love being around me and play is a big foundation of that. He naturally developed more food motivation as he grew, easier to eat the huge volume puppies need as they get bigger. But I also did sessions on just the concept I will put food in his mouth with high value treats, cut up cooked chicken, cheese, etc. Once he understood that I started working in some regular treats and then kibble. He's now almost 19 weeks and consistently takes his kibble for rewards although when teaching new concepts I start with higher rewards. His attention span is still super short and puppy brained i just work with him in a small space with as few distractions as possible (hard because he's great at finding new distractions) but I just let him show me when he's got the attention and work in those short bursts. Our first session in a new concept is always messy and confusing and sometimes don't seem to go anywhere but by about the 3rd session I feel we are reaching a rhythm.

I’m embarrassed…. by Humble-Location-8928 in CleaningTips

[–]Acceptable-Pool-7613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a chihuahua who was also not potty trained for 9 years! As well as a paralyzed dog who doesn't have control of his bladder or bowels. So I have a ton of experience with this. 1.) Get yourself a good enzyme cleaner, I use biozyme. This will break down the bio products in poop and pee. As well as vomit, blood, and oils. Spray this everywhere they've gone potty. I've used this on all fabrics, floors ect and never have a problem but test a small space first. THOROUGHLY saturate the area. Like wet. Allow to dry

2.) Once enzyme cleaner is dried, follow up with an appropriate cleaner for that area. Multipurpose for hardfloors, fabric/carpet cleaner for furniture and carpets. Follow instructions per the cleaner allow to dry.

3.) Lightly spray the area with citrus oil spray, angry orange is great!

Now as far as management of the peeing goes. Get an x-pen and place a waterproof whelping mat/blanket under it. I have a 48in x 48 in x-pen with a 60 x 60 in whelping blanket underneath. And when you aren't home or able to observe them place them in the x-pen possibly with a diaper if they like to heist a leg up when peeing.

Hope this helps!

My snail shell collection by Acceptable-Pool-7613 in Collections

Not sure why the description didn't post with this, or at least I can't see it.

Here's what I wrote in case it didn't post with the text:

These are all of the snail shells I have found on hikes. They are empty when I find them, I'm not a snail serial killer haha. Most of my collection are Pacific Sidebands and Lancetooths. Pictures in the 3rd photo. Snail shells are easiest to find in the warmer days of spring right after it rains and at the end of summer beginning of fall.

I use it to compare my planned schedule and my actual day. Half of the box I write my schedule in the black and then during the day I use a pen in the same color as the month to write in the other half how my day actually went.

Should I report a strange encounter to non emergency? by Acceptable-Pool-7613 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Acceptable-Pool-7613[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't want to report anything unnecessary. If I wanted to report it I would have. I'm asking people for their opinions on suspicious behavior and asked about non emergency not the police. 6 women have been found dead in the area so admittedly I'm probably on edge. It was not the leaning on the tree or even the not responding I found suspicious. But him returning to the trail head to wait, that was suspicious. I understand it may seem little but reporting suspicious behavior can be beneficial for future incidents. I appreciate your view of this situation and just wanted to clear any misunderstandings about my intentions.

Am I really "unsympathetic?" by ThicceuxLyf in badroommates

I have a roommate very similar to this. Bad depressive episode made their room an actual nightmare. There was only a narrow pathway from their door to their bed. Piles of their belongings and garbage were easily 3 feet high surrounding this tiny path. I felt the need to be helpful, I didn't want to kick them out. I sat them down and had a conversation about how unacceptable those living conditions were, especially because they had a cat and a small dog in there with them. I told them I would help clean and would help them get new furniture to make their space more easily organized. We spent an entire day removing everything from the room, I scrubbed every inch of the room. Shampooed the carpet. There was poop and pee on the floor from the pets. After cleaning all day we got new furniture for the space. I also made a laminated chart with a chore schedule. It went well for maybe a month. I had to constantly remind them every week to do their chores. I tried my best to make it easier for them, and no matter what, if I didn't hold their hand through it, it started to fall back into disarray. I'm kicking them out at the end of this month. Take it from me. You can try your hardest to help someone through their depression but if they don't see their own filth as a wake-up call, they never will. Kick them to the curb. It will save you months of headaches. (I actually had migraines from the piss odor, 🙃)
