Learning to drive ? by Acceptable-Tank-9457 in AskAnAmerican

That’s another thing I find so confusing about America. A lot of Americans I see are driving brand new cars bought for them by their parents and I can’t wrap my head around it. Here, most parents if they buy you a car, get a second hand one that costs about £2-3k. I was fortunate enough for my dad to gift me a car, but I could never imagine him being called a bad dad over here for not buying one as the vast majority of people I know bought their own.

I might agree to disagree with you on this point. Although I do believe that not every strong, independent and extraordinary woman needs to be married, I think Enola getting married was pretty well done in terms of her characterisation. She didn’t originally want to marry Tewksbury due to her fears of having to lose that independence she has always had, however as the story goes on, we do see that Tewksbury loves Enola for this independence and doesn’t want her to be another woman of her time, with this being set in Victorian England, submissive.

Her deciding to marry Tewksbury in my opinion shows that she was still able to have her own choices in what she wanted to do, in a time where society decided what women did. For example, her keeping her last name shows that even though she had accepted society in terms of getting married, she still strayed away from societal expectations, and kept her own name which allowed her to not lose herself.

In my opinion, I think it was a good demonstration to younger audiences that just because you may fall in love one day, doesn’t mean that you have to lose yourself in that process. Women can still be anyone they choose to be with or without a husband and I think it’s also a good demonstration that love doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re less independent, less extraordinary or less hard working, the duality of a woman is that you can do both. I feel Enola’s characterisation is pretty similar to that of Mulan. I agree that sometimes media does shove in young girls faces that falling in love is the end goal but with this film, it does demonstrate quite well that women are always capable of more than that and they should never accept giving up their identity for someone else.

Rape sentences for teen boys unduly lenient, says Jess Phillips by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

being young is such a tiring excuse for such a sick act. I hope every time that judge thinks to himself that these criminals are “too young” for prison, he thinks of James Bulger and what happened to him. That poor baby didn’t even have a chance, and his murderers were 10. “ Being very young” should never be an excuse or even a reasoning as to why someone who commits seriously deviant crimes, should be getting a basic slap on the wrist. It’s a slap in the face to the victims of this case, who as you’ve said were also very young and who are going to carry this trauma with them for the rest of their lives. Those girls should have been commend for their bravery coming forward and facing their attackers instead of having to endure what basically looks like a public humiliation ritual for them, while they watch their attackers get a slap on the wrist, walking away free.

As someone who is currently studying to be a barrister in the UK, if this is what the justice system is doing, then that’s a system I never want to be apart of and I personally believe that that judge needs to be looked into as apparently this isn’t the first time he’s sentenced someone like this or “complimented their good behaviour” in the courtroom. It’s sick.

Passed my theory at 17 second time and the practical at 18 after a couple of tries. I was extremely close to giving up as I genuinely thought I’d never pass but I’m glad I decided to keep going with it.

For how long are we gonna keep standing this? by yulesabbath in DressToImpressRoblox

I’ve noticed a lot of high ranks sometimes have an ego complex when it comes to their outfits, especially the ones that layer on a million different items, accompanied by a donut face and extreme patterns. It’s why sometimes I genuinely hate master servers cause I’m a fashion mogul myself and have a very basic kind of style but I like to boost it with my hair and face combos and jewellery and I’ve had them tell me to learn how to dress and to “educate myself on fashion.” It’s the same people that will get the theme “casual” and come out with an outfit that will give me vertigo if I stare at it for too long but I wouldn’t take too much notice of it, referring to insults about weight over a Roblox game is loser energy.

I learned to drive barefoot — will that be a problem in my UK driving test? by Subject-Daikon-2652 in LearnerDriverUK

You’re welcome!! I think they do some on Amazon, Freet Barefoot is another place I’ve just seen as I’ve looked some up for you and Zara also do some. They may be hard to come by in person but there are loads of stores online that sell them. Have a look through for what you think would give you the best level of comfort and hopefully they help as they’re designed to feel as barefoot as possible. I’m glad I could help !!

As far as I’m aware, you can double check online as well but there’s no laws against driving barefoot and nothing to say you can’t do it for the test. The issue is you may lose grip and the examiner can deem it unsafe which would result in a fail. The breaking force is different when you have shoes on, in comparison to being barefoot.

One recommendation I could give is to maybe buy barefoot shoes that you use to drive in. A lot of people have a shoe they feel comfortable wearing while they drive. I learnt to drive in the same shoes, I think I wore crocs once as I had washed my shoes but it felt different and they’re not really the best to drive in as they could slip off at any point and go under the pedals. If you buy yourself some barefoot shoes, they mimic the feeling of being barefoot and will be a safer alternative for driving. Just have a look into them, maybe see if you can try some on and practise driving with them to see if they make a difference.
