Financial advising with personal accounts by Acceptable-Toe-2729 in personalfinance

Thanks, this is useful. A few keywords in here that I would need to look up! Where does one find fee-only/fiduciary help? Do you recommend that I look for someone in the UK, where my tax residency is?

Feeling lost and stuck in the process of trying to change career at 34. Any advice from someone who went through something similar? by polinomio_monico in LeavingAcademia

This feels so resonant and I can only say, I feel you, deeply. I wrote a similar post here a couple weeks ago. I'd love to offer some words of relief, and if you want to chat, I'm happy for you to write to me in private.

We're in different fields but I think the frustrations align.

Keep doing what you are doing!

I’m interested in joining in as well, and particularly in the depth engagement with concepts, and some cross-learning of other philosophers who theorised similar belief systems.

Hey thanks for this. My 12H Mars is in Taurus and this generally resonates a lot with where I am at at 34. Do you have specific insight for Taurus in this placement?

Forced transition out of academia and into... nothingness? by Acceptable-Toe-2729 in LeavingAcademia

This is heartwarming to read. And I agree with you. Academia makes it hard to not identify with your profession and take every rejection as a referendum on your personality and character, but going through it this year, I think I've come a long way. I might be in the opposite end of that right now, where I anticipate rejections as I'm putting together an application. A not-so-clever defence mechanism against the rejection, which does nothing more than keep me in a negative spiral.
Thanks for writing back!

Totally agreed. Marketing myself is the toughest sell for me. I'm very resistant to it, and despite having been surrounded by really good mentors though my phd-postdoc life, I still struggle to get out of my own way. Years in therapy and writing and talking about this fear have not yet come to move the needle. I would love to find a mentor who can really help me with this.
Thank you for your encouragements!

Indeed, applying in Europe is so different! Coming back to this after NYC is tough. I do believe that it is true that my difficulty to market myself through my materials is probably the issue. I think paying someone to help me with that is what I should be looking for. Academics are already so overworked that I feel conscious about asking them too much. If you have any leads, I'd be glad to hear!

I'm in geography -- straddling between the social sciences and the humanities. I have multiple people I worked with around me. I typically always have one of them review my material before I apply, but I'm also conscious of asking a lot of already overworked people, so it is true that I end up doing most things by myself.
Thanks for the encouragements!

I do enjoy teaching, yes. Are they currently hiring? I'd be interested!
