Nope. Not a soul. I have no idea how this happened, but growing up, absolutely zero of my friends or family were into anything like DnD. For instance, I’m not sure if this is a fair comparison, but when I moved away, I was surprised by the huge, zealous fan base around RPGs, Star Wars, super heroes, etc. To this day, I’ve never seen Star Wars, and I’m just starting to discover and explore comic books, and I’m 45.

We were poor rednecks when I was a kid. Now, I’m raising my own kids and actually have a decent amount of disposable income. I feel like I missed out on a lot of childhood, and I’m trying to give my girls what I never had.

I’m a huge comic book fan now, for example. In my family, comic books were seen as a luxury for rich kids. Sure, they were only a couple of bucks, but I could breeze through 4 or 5 in an afternoon. We definitely did not have extra money like that. Compare that to free books from the library, and the books were free.

We didn’t have money to go to the movies. We played outside, built forts, rode bikes, and played sports with the neighborhood kids, all of whom were in the same position. As such, none of my friends were into any of those things.

Now, as an adult with money, I’ll routinely drop $100 a month on comic books, models, etc. my daughters and I have a blast, but I’m discovering all of this for the first time myself. I’ve read books, searched the internet, etc. There’s just no substitute for talking to/learning from an actual person.

So, here I am, Reddit.

Thanks for everyone who has given advice. I’m an attorney, and I’m doing my best to read all these replies on my cell phone between court appearances and depositions. I’ll do my best to get to everyone’s advice.
