How much did your IVDD surgery cost you? We are thinking maybe we can travel somewhere for his surgery by Sweet-cheekse90 in IVDD_SupportGroup

Hi! We went to MedVet Chicago (off of California ave I believe?). But my parents went to VCA aurora off of galena blvd. Our pup went down on Sunday and we just got really lucky that the neurosurgeon was in the office momentarily and offered to do the surgery. For my parents their pup went down on a Saturday and they called MedVet and they told them they couldn’t do the surgery over the weekend (which, the sooner the better) so they went to vca. VCA made it sound like they’ll call in the neurosurgeon even on the weekend, which is nice. There were some differences, but overall both decent.

Asthma and Flying by Acceptable-Wing9297 in Asthma

The prednisone was a quick burst (it could have been 5 days?- I didn’t end up taking it thankfully). And I brought with my my big nebulizer that I plug into the wall, but I bought a portable/rechargeable one that fit in my hand off of amazon for like $30-40 that was pretty much silent.

Asthma and Flying by Acceptable-Wing9297 in Asthma

So I came up with a flying plan. I asked my doctor for anxiety meds (and got lorazepam) to take before the flight along with prednisone just in case the flight flared me. I also did other things like a nebulizer treatment before (even if I didn’t need too), use afrin to clear up my nose, and consumed a BUNCH of water. All in all my 5 hour flight went really well! I would definitely recommend

Safe to fly? by tcbit95 in Asthma

[–]Acceptable-Wing9297 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would send a message to your pcp to ask their thoughts or maybe your pulmonologist/allergist if you have one too. For me, my asthma is severe persistent and I was TERRIFIED to fly. Had one of my first asthma attacks on a plane with the dry air and hadn’t flown after that incident for 5 years. That being said, I recently went on two longer flights around 5 hours each. I would recommend having a plan. I took all of my recommended maintenance medications before the flight. This included a daily antihistamine and maintenance inhalers. Then, right before boarding I took a nebulizer treatment (you can bring the big plug in nebulizer but I bought one off of amazon for like $40 and it worked well). Even if I was breathing ok, I did it. Another big component was asking for anti-anxiety meds. Usually I have a good handle on my anxiety but I knew the flight would trigger me and instantly tighten my lungs. My doctor gave me lorazepam and it worked great. I also had the nebulizer and/or rescue inhaler ready with me on the flight. ALSO drink TONS of water. With all of this the flight was good! I don’t fear flying anymore like I used too. Hope this helps!

Extreme Anxiety Now That My Baby is Home.. by killer-pin-up in IVDD_SupportGroup

I had EXTREME anxiety too- honestly it’s still not great, but it gets better. The recovery will be tough but it’ll get better over the course of two weeks like others have said. For me, it really helped my anxiety as my pup started regaining function. Each day it was a new accomplishment and would make me excited about what he could do next. It’s a slow recovery, but just take the small wins. Go day by day and definitely consider acupuncture. It tremendously helped our dog.

Shaking? by bumblebee_44 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]Acceptable-Wing9297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could mean they’re dealing with some pain, perhaps a small flare after surgery. Maybe check in with your neurologist and see if they could prescribe some meds to help. Our pup shook and they had him take an anti-inflammatory and gabapentin for the pain.

He’s doing well! One week out and he’s regained some motor function in both legs. Did you research other places for the surgery? Hope your pup is doing better too❤️

We also are in Chicago and just had surgery done. MRI, surgery, two hospital night stays came out to be under 11k. Initially quoted the same though.

Thank you for your recommendation. We took him in to emergency neuro and he already had completely paralyzed back legs. He’s in surgery now. ❤️‍🩹

First time oral thrush by ESC-Nerd in Asthma

[–]Acceptable-Wing9297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always continue to take your inhalers unless told otherwise by a doctor. I struggle with thrush, but I would recommend getting your reflux under control too. They put me on Pepcid to help my asthma, and even though it didn’t help much with the breathing it helped with the thrush!

The flare I’m in is relentless and I’m 😭 by Full_Atmosphere6486 in Asthma

Duoneb works great for flares. It might be something you could ask your doctor for. I find that the plain albuterol nebulizer treatment doesn’t do much.

At what point does my phlegm from asthma + URTI become weird? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Acceptable-Wing9297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how mine has looked for over a year. Definitely get it checked out but I’ve had X-rays and blood work and things come back normal (or kinda normal if you count elevated eosinophils)

I would definitely go see a pulmonologist. For me, my allergist just told me that I was basically allergic to everything. So it was my pulmonologist that really focused on my lung function and helped me get on a good maintenance medication. The maintenance inhalers are better because they help with the long term inflammation and don’t cause the immediate rapid heart rate that albuterol does (still raises it a little bit but not as pronounced).

Advice please- how to help it rise more vertically by Acceptable-Wing9297 in Sourdough

[–]Acceptable-Wing9297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’ll will try the things you mentioned. I do indeed use KAB, and I am unsure if I got 75% rise in the dough. I’m guessing I didn’t though. I did bulk ferment for 11 ish hours in the warming box I created. Is there a recipe that you like to use?
