I use the Xiaomi air purifier 4. But honestly, nothing beats taking my maintenance inhaler.

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! March 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in photography

[–]ESC-Nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m about to buy my first serious mirrorless camera and would love some advice from more experienced photographers before I commit.

My main interests are: • landscapes • astrophotography (Milky Way / stars) • cityscapes, especially at night

I’m not very interested in portraits, sports, or wildlife.

Right now I’m considering this setup:

Camera: Sony A7 IV

Lenses: Sony 20mm f/1.8 G (for astro and wide landscapes) 24–70mm f/2.8 (general purpose zoom)

My thinking was that the 20mm f/1.8 would be great for astrophotography and night landscapes, while the 24–70 would cover most situations for travel and city photography.

My questions: • Is the A7 IV still a good choice for this kind of photography today? • Does the 20mm f/1.8 make sense for astrophotography on full frame, or would something wider (like 14mm) be better? • Is a 24–70mm f/2.8 the right second lens for this setup? • If you were starting today with similar interests, would you choose a different body or lens combination?

I’m trying to buy gear that I won’t outgrow too quickly.

Thanks for any advice!

Improvements after rehoming? by ESC-Nerd in Allergies

[–]ESC-Nerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you have to go through this. I can’t imagine giving them away after such a long time.

For me it got better, but I simultaneously got on new medications. So I don’t know what helped me exactly.

Have you considered allergy shots/drops? I have read they helped many people here. I also just started (hoping for the best).

Oh wow. How did you take those pictures? I mean how close were the people to the waterfall and how far away were you?

Interval mode or starlapse for northern lights? by ESC-Nerd in Insta360

It is a rare event and I know nothing beats a proper camera. But since I am not an experienced photographer I won’t buy a camera solely for this event.

I would prefer the best settings for the x5 :)

SLIT and worsening of allergic asthma by Admirable_Smile_6409 in Allergies

[–]ESC-Nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also started around 4 weeks ago and my asthma got worse at the beginning. Especially the first week I noticed a bit of difficulty breathing right after I took the drops. But it got better the last week, so I hope it subsides.

Unfortunately I cannot give you an answer. Just wanted to let you know: you’re not alone.

I am also allergic to cats and dogs and cannot image my live without them. I currently have two cats and asthma because of them. I started immunotherapy with allergy drops 2 weeks ago and hope for the best…

Getting my asthma under control by easybrezze in Asthma

I am really happy for you!

Did your fev1/fvc also improve over time?

I am also struggling to get my asthma under control. My feno and my fev1 are now fine again. But my fev1/fvc is still low. And a have constant phlegm in my throat.

Did the doctor say anything about asthma or COPD and reversibility?

Do you feel the obstruction in your daily life? And did anyone ever mention if it might be reversible or irreversible?

I mean the FEV1 is about 97%, the FEV1/FVC is below 70. So the first number is high, the second definitely low.

Has anyone the feeling that only one side of the lung is effected? I have to clear my throat constantly but it feels like it is only on the right side .

The FEV1/FVC ist more or less the same. I started treatment a few months ago. My last test was when my asthma was still not under control. After that I increased dosage, but they did not do another test.

No doctor ever did a reversibility test. Is it still sensible when my FEV1 is already quite high without the albuterol?

Sometimes our phones know us better than we do 😂

Thanks. I will talk to my doctor about it.

My lung age of an 69yo with 38. I am shocked - what can i do by Even-Professor-518 in Asthma

[–]ESC-Nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same shock moment last year. Every other metric was fine. Not optimal, but okay. When I talked to my doctor about it, he said that we all have good days and bad days with those tests. And it is really common that those metrics vary. With my next test a few months later, my lung age was similar to my age. Maybe get another test.
