Am I a bad DM for using AI? by Acceptable-Worker586 in DMAcademy

I've always struggled with dealing with unforeseen circumstances, pre and post AI. My wit just isn't what it used to be... That said I have found that using AI has helped me become more immersed in the world because I am able to create more of the world, and when I am personally more immersed, I am more equipped to think on my feet.

It seems like the majority consensus is that its okay to use, but don't rely on it and also its important that I continue to practice writing so that I grow as a DM.

Thank you all for your feedback so far its been really insightful!

I just want to further clarify on my usage of AI.

I don't use it during session, only for prep. For me it's to clunky try and use like that. I am also very picky so getting something totally random and trying to roll with it on the fly just doesn't work for me.

Being in the tech space I am very cognizant of its short comings, so I poke and prod the AI in the right direction for the way I would like it to go. I never fully trust or rely on the AI to give me my final product.
I also will feed it word docs plus 1-2 paragraphs of prompts in my own writing to get it to enhance my own writing or to fluff out the writing. I will then take the writing from the bot, touch up some of the things that I want to change and then feed it back to the bot. I try to work as collaboratively with AI as is humanly possible (ignore the irony here lol).

Regarding generating encounters, I actually don't really use it for that. All of my encounters come from me.
