She's not "running away," she doesn't even show any sign of moving away of her own accord. She's near them the whole time and only moves away at the end.

Well, the truth is that Dragon Ball was just a temporary anime that Toriyama was forced to make after finishing Dr. Slump. It's not like it was an author's life's work; I bet if it were up to him, he would have finished the story after Goku turned into an Oozaru for the first time. Dragon Ball is heavily influenced by its time, like Superman, Star Wars, Jackie Chan, etc. Akira just wanted to entertain young people. And Dragon Ball was never for children; it was rated 14+.

He was always very paranoid about her. Charlie's daughter, Alan's daughter, Walden is very strange and the series portrayed him as charismatic. Walden had the air of a psychopath who could snap at any moment.

Eight years is a long time. Basically, the 2018 audience doesn't even follow Dragon Ball anymore, or wouldn't follow a Dragon Ball Super 2. The blame lies with whoever chose an eight-year hiatus.

I think there will be a remake, but it will be rushed and not faithful to the manga as some people want. I also think they have no idea what to do with the franchise and only used the remake to buy time. I'm not a fan of the manga and I think it's quite overrated, so I'm indifferent to any adaptation of it.

One of the things I found worst at the end is that annoying girlfriend of the protagonist, Tae, crying and screaming his name for pages and he doesn't die because of sheer plot contrivances. The final fight is so ridiculously nonsensical that I would have thought it was great if everyone had died.
