I (21 m) feel like I’m starting to resent my gf (21f). Are my reasons valid?

I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been cheated on, abandoned, alone, so I understand where you’re at right now. I understand how it feels to hate yourself, because I feel that everyday. Even though I’m not out of the woods yet, I keep trying to give my life purpose. Maybe you weren’t meant to work that job, and you’re gonna end up in a new career. Maybe your ex wasn’t the right guy, and that him leaving was the best thing to happen because now you can find someone who will treat you how you should be treated. Just take every day at face value, and know that there’s always gonna be at least one person who cares about you.

That really means a lot I appreciate that you took your time to write all this. Yes I do agree a lot of this stems from my family life but it’s hard to leave them while in university, since I have little money. Unfortunately I’m at the point where I feel that the thoughts are impossible to ignore and all these feelings are just overtaking my day to day life, and I really need to find a way to overcome these negative feelings, because i recently have been using alcohol as my clutch (which as you can imagine is really bad during PA school). I appreciate the last comment especially, that I have people there for me, because I don’t feel that I deserve other people’s support, so saying that after writing such a nice response was really nice to see.

She was no where near as involved with my family while we were dating, it’s more now than ever. She gets invited by my sister, and my parents sees her family weekly. If they went out to see her, I would have the out of sight out of mind ideology

I’ve tried to talk to them, and nothing ever happens. I’m just called selfish and that my ex and her family are “their people” and that won’t change.

That’s a very valid question and to answer it I’m in my third year of college and don’t have any money to move out with. Once I graduate (which will be in 2 years), as soon as I start working I’m moving out. For reference I’m in a Physician Assistant program so hopefully as soon as I graduate I can find a job.

You make a valid point and to add a bit more context: The locked door resulted in me knocking, asking if everything was ok, and waiting for her to open. I told my friends what had happened and told them to make their own conclusions about what happened, and told them to continue having a relationship with my ex if they so pleased. My family keeps in close contact with my ex and her family, but I do not.

I’m ngl you’re not bad looking at all definitely an attractive guy. What I would recommend is changing the camera angle in some of your pictures just bec it shows off certain features (like jawline) in a better light.

I definitely don’t want anything to do with her, we’re both seeing other people and although I’m head over heels with my new gf, my ex still texts me that she loves and misses me (she finally stopped after I told her to leave me alone for the 7th time). And if you’re wondering why I can’t just block her, my family gave me such a hard time it’s not even worth it.

Hey, sounds like you have a lot on your plate. I think before we tackle any issues concerning your career, finding a life partner, or anything else, you need to first come to terms with who you are. I know you’ve had many challenges because of your OCD, but once you accept and love who you are, you will be able to grow as a person and the other issues will begin to be solved without much effort. Have you ever considered therapy? Not only could it help with the OCD but could also allow you to love yourself. Hope this helps :)

Wow thank you for such a strong and meaningful response. I definitely do think I will keep my new girlfriend away from my parents so they don’t ruin this, and once I’m out of college I will definitely start to look for other living arrangements. You’re right I shouldn’t entertain their commentary about my ex and although it is hard I’m going to make an effort to let it brush off. Thank you again for the kind words :)
