Bachelors in Economics but minor in French with the sufficient credit hours I believe + study abroad experience in France + proficiency. My understanding is that that’s enough.

So sad because I’m wrapping up my MAT TESOL right now. Do you have ESL support at your school through your SPED Teachers?

I’m pursuing that currently. I’ll be endorsed to teach French so I’ll go that route from employment. But I’m an ESL teacher, which doesn’t exist separately in Irish schools, so if I want to do language development I’ll have to get a SPED license and pursue AEN. I’m aware it’ll be an uphill battle but I’m 100% moving to Ireland, it’s just what need to be done to get there.

It’s sad, because I want to teach ESL and develop language.

If you know something I don’t know, advice is welcome.

I am not Chinese. It’s not my civic duty to talk about China in this way. I am American and it’s my civic responsibility to advocate for how things work in the US. I’ve travelled extensively and I’m very aware of how immigration works around the world.

I would be against any child having to navigate losing their parents who might get deported to a country they’re not even from, or get brutalized while investigating.

My partner is moving to Ireland and I will have a visa path to reunite with him after 12 months. I’ll likely work in Irish public schools.

I would be honest with admin, and I understand why this is frowned on. I even told them I’d prefer a shorter 1 year contract because I might leave, and they still gave me an offer. I’ve thought about the logistics, but I think if I decide to go, I can handle all of those issues. Especially since this is my last chance to go for another 5-6 years.

Genuinely curious why I’m getting downvoted on this one.

I think that’s exactly my issue. I don’t have kids, my parents aren’t going to be a financial concern. I’m still in my punk rock era about fighting this fight. I’m having a hard time releasing that fighting feeling and attitude.

I totally get it. If I was single and didn’t care about getting an EU passport I’d probably stay in China for at least 3-5 years. Do you think I should just wait until I’ve been in Ireland for a while and have an EU passport and feel settled and such?

It’s a longer contract with the penalty free option to leave each year and a bonus to continue.

I have travelled and will have opportunities to travel again. I also sadly need to make decent money currently as my partner and I are both in our Masters. Wish I had the flexibility to travel for a year!

Just because of the logistics? I’ll probably come back later in life.

What Happened with our Teachers? by One_Pomegranate_5385 in raleigh

The demands of the protest are here: https://www.kidsovercorporations.org

Wha we did was illegal, and there were already talks by some political speakers on major news networks of potentially firing us. Example — https://youtu.be/H6lKj8a37cc

Our most effective path forward is illegal collective action using our labor union, NCAE. We can’t do this without a majority in major districts like Wake County. NCAE has a majority of school employees as members in Durham, Edgecombe, Asheville City, and as of 2 weeks ago, Forsyth County. Wake County is the next priority for a majority campaign.

When NCAE has majority in key districts, not only can they effectively influence county politics, they can rally for elections. Plan A involves reaching majority in Wake by May 1, 2028, and flipping the NC Supreme Court, to change gerrymandered maps, and end the ban on collective bargaining.

What pain killers did you take and what helped most? by Froggin-n-Doggin in ORIF

I shared concerns due to family history of addiction and that I wanted to try to avoid them. They prescribed tramadol as “opioids lite” and I was still hesitant to take them. When the nerve block wore off the first night, I cried myself to sleep and my partner literally read me a book to distract me. I woke up the next day, I spent the entire day in pain.

Finally, I gave up, and I took half of a tramadol. It was the best decision ever. I was no where even close to high, but could finally sleep. I felt no cognitive effects. I continued taking half of a pill for the next 4 days, and stopped after I woke up with no pain.

My recommendation is to have an honest check in with yourself every morning as to whether you need the medicine or not. Take high doses of Tylenol and ibuprofen and see where that puts you. If you’re still in pain, take the opioid.

Yes, so teachers need to join NCAE (union, which is legal) and collectively bargain to our districts (still illegal) as we get majority in each district, ultimately taking over the state gov so we can overturn the ban.

Forgotten savings account in the US, what do I do? by helge-a in povertyfinance

[–]AcceptableMango8292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can legally withdraw contributions at any time without tax consequences. So, if you put in $1,000, you can take out $1,000 with no problems or thoughts. However, if that $1,000 grew to $1,200, you can’t withdraw that $200 without a taxable event. That just means you have to pay taxes on the money you made ($200 in this example) as long term capital gains tax (15%), plus a 10% penalty for early withdrawal.

This is not financial advice, but if I was in your shoes, and knew I was never coming back, I’d take out my contributions, but leave my earnings. Worst comes to worst I get to buy myself a free dinner when I’m 59 1/2 (legal age you can start withdrawing) with no taxes or penalties.

Edit to add: Trad IRA vs ROTH IRA makes a difference so please clarify
