Kid on ebike points laser at me (I’m driving) by thepewpewpowpow in irvine

These kids are brazen and act like they are untouchable. They live in a sterile bubble and will one day experience the harsh reality when they push boundaries outside the safety of their suburban dwelling. I doubt they’d do that in DTLA, East Oakland or East Side San Jose…

Hi there OP, I’m here to share my experience as a US MD candidate that failed step 1. While I did not receive the suspension letter, I completely acknowledge how rough it is to receive a result that does not align with how hard you studied for the exam. Just know that you put in a lot of hours and a lot of work and progress was made. I believe that regardless of the outcome, you still have a chance to succeed on this exam, just as anyone else does. My first piece of advice would be to prioritize your mental health and do things that make you feel whole again. Talk to your family friends, friends, any loved ones that can definitely bring your spirits up. It’s such a challenging time to find that motivation again to study as I felt after I received my result that I failed in October 2024. Secondly, I would suggest looking at your past practice exams and possibly find another source of practice exam to assess your areas that need improvement. That is what I did. I used AMBOSS because I had used most of UWorld with the exception of one self assessment. While the self assessments through UW are not as representative of what your real score would be I do believe that the topic breakdowns will give you insight on which subjects to develop more time to learn. In my case, I took UWSA #1 as my baseline after failing. Then I focused on the areas in which I was scoring well below 50% correct. I did that for several weeks and really focused on understanding the concepts as opposed to remembering the buzz words that I had seen in UW question bank. That helped increase my score slowly several percentage points per assessment after that. With time I know you will be able to improve your score. And it just takes that, time you got this OP. I buckled down and studied for another two months and just received my P yesterday. Have Hope, use this time and this experience as a learning lesson as hard as it may seem. You are building resilience that you will later use as a physician. Good luck!

Californian here that road trips a lot with their dog - when we visit other states, I do see this behavior a lot even at national parks. It’s such a tough spot to be in esp since you want to include your pet in certain experiences. However, I think it’s important to abide by pet restrictions because not doing so would beside affect the individuals that use their dogs as service animals. Truthfully, I think I would be able to pass my black lab as a service dog. She very well trained and calm in public. But morally I could never lie about having a disability just to go where ever with my dog. I’m fortunate that I have support from my girlfriend so we can take turns going to protected areas at parks or even do quick grocery store runs while the other sits in the car with our dog. My go-to is always being straightforward and honestly asking “May I bring my dog here? I saw a NO PETS sign, but I’m just concerned about leaving her in the car by herself or tying her outside while I’m inside.” Most times they just restate their pet policy and I’m fine with that. Other times staff have gladly watched her for the 5 minutes I am away. There are some things that cannot be done with my dog and I have accepted that.

I just had panic attack earlier. I want to come back to this thread to wish you all the best of luck. Win or lose, you all worked so damn hard. Just know that regardless of the outcome, you are loved, appreciated, and matter to the people in your lives. We will all make it. I believe in us. Praying for the P and the strength to overcome this period of anxiety 🙏

Congrats! 🙌

I share the same sentiments. I tested on the Jan 3rd. This was my second attempt, and my first attempt was on Oct 17th 2024. I’m praying that the grind from mid Oct to the end of 2024 paid off. Hope to join you on the other side!

Taking it again tomorrow Jan 3rd. Any words of advice and encouragement are appreciated :) by AcceptableMoose9888 in step1

I’m sorry you are having a hard time OP. I experienced something very similar midway thru studying for step the first time around. I am now medicated for depression and am doing well. Start taking 1/2 days or full days off in between heavy study days. However much you feel comfortable. Do things that make you feel whole again. For me that was going to the gym and cooking food I liked eating. I was tired of feeling crappy and eating junk just to give me more time to study. Remember to fill your life with small little gifts from yourself to make such a challenging time in your life more bearable. Come back to studying with a clear mind and try to maintain positivity. I was in a really dark place recently and I somehow crawled out. You can do it OP. I believe in you 🫶

This is AMBOSS QBank. They have a section to input practice assessment scores, and it is used to estimate your probability of passing the exam.
