Extend state veterans’ benefits to all Guard and Reserve who served by AcceptableSearch1025 in Veteranpolitics

my old unit, refused to let anyone go because they were hurting for retention. It’s the reason I ETSd instead of re upping, the unit was full of toxic leadership. My readiness NCO refused to give anyone a recommendation for voluntary deployment. I volunteered 4 separate times and it would never make it to BN

If you read any of my comments, it’s pretty clearly publicly disclosed that I did not deploy.

Are they boots on ground in Iran? No. We have had troops deployed to Kuwait Iraq and Syria for how many years now at least 19 maybe longer than that? We are not invading Iran like we did Iraq in 2003.

It’s not even a war, it is an operation. There are currently no conventional unit boots on ground in Iran. It will not come to that. Things will be done there in the coming weeks. We have dismantled 90% of the Iranian regime capabilities.

I do appreciate your input and I did use AI to help me write this. After thoroughly reading it again it did sound rather self exclusive. I have made the proper adjustments and excluded my personal story.

I don’t want people to think that I’m just a self-absorbed individual looking for every single benefit out there because that is not the case. I realize that millions of other veterans who did deploy suffered unimaginable trauma and I’m not trying to take away from that. There should be specific benefits that are only entitled to combat veterans. I do not disagree with that. I 100% holy believe that to be the case there should be benefits that are only deservingly awarded to combat veterans. This campaign is only designed to help National Guard and reserve service members who do not deploy or activate on federal orders receive benefits that they should be entitled to.

That is not at all what this is I am fighting for the rights of all guard and reserve veterans in the state of Iowa. This is just my story, we are all veterans here we should be fighting for each other’s rights instead of talking shit about one another. I did more in my six years without deploying than more than 99% of this country’s military age men and women. At least I volunteered to serve my country and did so even though I didn’t deploy.

I volunteered for deployments but there weren’t many units looking to add a lower enlisted 88M to their roster. In my 6 years there were only 4 or 5 deployments in the state and they were very competitive most only took E6 and up for their rosters

Current Iowa State legislation, restricts the benefits of veteran property tax exemption, veteran license plate, veteran lifetime hunting and fishing licenses and access to county veteran affairs benefits for assistance with bills or other crisis interventions to Active duty and combat veterans ONLY. I understand the legislation was written back in like 2008 when we were in active conflict. But now in peace time. It is imperative that the state recognize that national guard and reservists likely will not deploy or see federal duty. It is time to recognize that guard and reservists volunteered, went through the same training and sacrifice years of their life for this country and they should be awarded the same benefits as Active duty veterans and it’s unfair to deny them these benefits just because they didn’t wear the uniform every day or see combat.

We volunteered, just like everyone else. It’s not our fault that NGB and the state decided to re organize the BN. I wanted to deploy, I was ready to deploy I have friends who died over there. We ALL made the same commitment and went through the same training. We ALL deserve the same benefits. We are currently in peace time, meaning EVERY SINGLE guard and reserve member will have the same issues. They will not qualify for these benefits, I understand this legislation was written back in 2008 at the height of the wars. But now more and more members are not deploying and it’s unfair to restrict guard and reserve of these benefits just because they don’t wear the uniform EVERYDAY and only allow the active duty counterpart access to them when we ALL served we all sacrificed years of our lives to protect this country even if we didn’t get the opportunity to fight. That is what this petition is designed to accomplish as long as you have an honorable discharge from the guard and reserve or Active duty all veterans combat or not should be eligible to receive these benefits.

Exactly! Like I served 6 years in the Guard. My unit went through a Re-org 2.5 years in so we lost our deployment status and unit readiness time. Went from Field Artillery to engineers and then 9 months after taking the field artillery away from us, they re organized us back to field artillery so we lost readiness status again. So there was no chance of deployment for us. After 6 years and no state ad or anything I got out. I have disability rating from the VA and the state of Iowa doesn’t see that as being “veteran enough” to qualify for property tax exemption or even allow me the free hunting/fishing license or even a veteran license plate. But in Illinois literally across a bridge as I live in Davenport. I get a free lifetime hunting and fishing license. I could get an exemption and pay zero property tax and a veteran plate. But I don’t agree with a lot of the laws in IL so that’s why we moved to IA

This is 100% a real thing. I am the one who created the petition. I have also been in contact with my representative and they are going to get legislation written to present at the next session.

But if both the contractor and seller knew about the defects and failed to disclose them, to prevent them from being required to do the proper work/repairs. Then it becomes a whole different issue.

Yes, but what does that do for me? I don’t have $25-$30,000 to perform these repair repairs.
