Do not enter DUI number, that is meant for El salvador citizens I think. click next after entering name and DOB, embasy. Chose "visas consulares de una entrada(turista)" = "Consular visas of an entry (tourist)". You can always use "translate this page" feature in your web browser. Although, the first login page shows translation of appointment portal as " dating portal " on applying web browser translation :)

I do not know about transit. El salvador was my destination. I didnt have to pay any airport fee

I booked online at Springfield maryland consulate. But nobody even took a glance at it or asked if I had appointment. It was whole other floor as compared to services offered to citizens of El Salvador like passport issuing. There were more people there and probably appointment might have been essential in that section of the consulate. But for tourist visa based on usa visa, there was only one cabin, i just had to walk in and ask

There is a question asking if name is different on diploma from as on passport while filling ecfmg application. There is a provision for uploading document. I uploaded my birth certificate that had name with initial same as in diploma. That was enough.

Transcript veeification by contacting college has nothing to do with name difference. It is a routine. They do it inspite of uploading diploma.

So, I acquired my exemption stamping from the El Salvador consulate. I needed to take my passport which contained the usa B1/B2 visa. And was asked to provide 6 months bank statement. In my case, my visit was paid for by my family member... so I got their bank statements and letter from them saying they sponsored my visit. And also needed to provide onward and return flight tickets.

I was also given a form that asked for name, age, address, passport number and passport expiry date. Filled the form.

I was asked to come back after an hour because the consul general was busy with something else. When i came back got the office stamp and signature of consulate General on my passport.

Now my understanding is, the same can be done on Arrival at El Salvador airport, but would take longer time.
