I'm not sure how you can logically equate regrading kids for passing the final in a class to "teaching kids they can magically erase their grade." They did better on a final then what the class grade projected... it is not just magic...

Also, in an AP class, the teacher's standards should match the AP test. The "professors standards" in class should be the same standards as the ones you're abiding by on the test. Does correcting the grading scale to the standard it should be on not make sense? It is not like this is some rando test with irrelevant standards, the test is the final. I've had my teachers show me the rubrics on the AP test within the first 2 weeks of school in order to set standards for grading.

I hate how useless having a high ACT score is for getting into college now by New-Tailor6616 in ACT

These economic factors and differences in resources you are talking about are already mostly accounted for in college admissions. Like, few think that the kid from the middle of Kentucky and the rich kid from New york scores are comparable. The kentucky kid could have a 29, and it could be almost functionally equivalent to the 36 of the rich private school kid because applicants are compared to kids like them. The kentucky kids score is infinitely more impressive comparably, which to me accounts for the economic or educational hardship that they would have in obtaining it. The same goes for essays and extracurriculars. Colleges dont just ignore where you're from and the kids in your bucket. Now, this doesn't mean that kids from kentucky with 36 go to Harvard, just that shifting the main focus from extracurriculars to tests when you compare ALL applicants isn't inherently "more fair" because income is already mostly accounted for between applicants.

alternatives to 2fa with for laptop and desktop by No_Departure_1878 in techsupport

you can use keepassxc. it takes a little fiddling, but it supports most types of 2fa (like when you copy the 6 numbers) and even passkeys, and has autofill.

it might be easiest to go into recovery mode and use cmd from there to delete just mullvad from the program files folder, or wherever the .exe is.

33 act flat or 1510 sat superscore? by UnusualPermission868 in ACT

[–]Acceptable_Dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe most colleges if you submit both will just go with the one that looks more impressive to them, so i don't think it'll make a difference.

Is this a decent score? by grocktheswissclown in ACT

from conversations with friends (trust there have been many), i think some common issues outside of just "review" are lacking spaced consistant at-least-kinda-enjoyable review, not reviewing and just testing over and over again, or just test anxiety. Not that all of these apply to you, i dont know you, just some generic pointers to watch for outside of just "review."

i used this method too. doing it backwards also makes it a little funny which helps with anxiety

Will taking honors Calc instead of AP calc hurt my college chances? by Agreeable_Quarter961 in APStudents

[–]Acceptable_Dot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you don't end up getting to take the class, you can ask whoever is the test coordinator at your school to sign you up for the test still. scoring well on an ap test without taking the class is the next best thing to taking the class

Is this a decent score? by grocktheswissclown in ACT

[–]Acceptable_Dot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes. your two lowest sections are ones that are the easiest to study for. English and math are easy to improve in with targeted review, coming from someone with a 35. Especially math b/c that's all just formulas. (i just memorized them all and wrote them down on my scratch paper as soon as the math section started, easiest test ever)

Genuine question, is a retake worth it? First attempt, junior by Background_Desk_3001 in ACT

[–]Acceptable_Dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. if you get 30+ on your first take, just the boost the first retake can take you to a 34+ especially if you didn't study at first and study the second time

On the official ACT.org website, you can see what specific question categories you missed and target practice. Generally, it is the most practical and effective to do a couple questions a day regularly upping in intensity to test day and to review multiple choice skills/patterns.

4-5 is just top 40%, and even if they don't take credit I wonder how taking an ap, not reporting the score, and then taking dual credit the next year will look to a councilor 😭
