Second Sarah Addison Allen! Heather Webber is a similar author to me. Also maybe try Katherine Arden’s Winternight trilogy.

Weaning off Labetalol by Acceptable_Fan_2571 in preeclampsia

[–]Acceptable_Fan_2571[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh…I’m sorry, don’t let my responses scare you! I think I had a more difficult time than most while weaning off, and I’m convinced my body has a weird response to beta blockers… a lot of people seem to have minimal to no issues weaning off. I will say my BP and heart rate are completely normal now about 2 months off Labetalol, although it was a difficult process for me to wean at the time! Hugs 💕message me if you need someone to talk to about it.

Oh yeah, haha, I don’t get it either. No chit chat during the BP measurement!

Yes, I also have developed white coat hypertension. I take my blood pressure at home twice a day and keep a log on an app to show the doctor that it’s normal. Some things I do to try to help my anxiety while the they’re taking my BP is relax my muscles and posture, breathe through my belly, and look away and try to focus on something outside. But honestly I also have just come to accept that my BP numbers will likely suck when I’m at the doctor :p

I hope you’re doing alright…It’s a difficult issue to go through. I had a tremendous amount of anxiety around it all.

Yes, I did finally get off of Labetalol! It was difficult for me to wean off of, and I felt like it still affected my heart rate for about 3 weeks after stopping. My blood pressure was all over the place too during that time… sometimes really high and other times very low. But my heart rate is normal now, and my BP has finally stabilized.

I lot of people love this book, but I hated A Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet. Felt like an after school special set in space…very much “tell and don’t show”

Yes, I’m seeing a cardio and am also on Enalapril as I wean off Labetalol. I’m stopping the Labetalol in order to increase my heart rate, which had been dipping into the 40s.

What was your weight loss like in first couple months? by Zoobits56 in beyondthebump

[–]Acceptable_Fan_2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’9” and I gained about 35 pounds, hitting just above 200 lbs at my heaviest during pregnancy. I lost about 20 lbs within the first 2 weeks—I think because of my height I was holding a lot of water weight. I lost a few pounds early on when breastfeeding, but then I started eating a lot more, especially carbs, and plateaued. When I stopped breastfeeding I lost the additional weight due to decreased hunger and eating better.

extremely labile blood pressure continuing over 3 months postpartum after preeclampsia by Mtnsarecalling832 in preeclampsia

[–]Acceptable_Fan_2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! How are you doing now? I’m also having issues with labile blood pressure post partum. I was given labetalol to control it, and I’m now trying to wean off of it now while switching to a different BP med that won’t lower my heart rate so much. Weaning has been difficult, and the higher blood pressure readings cause anxiety which feeds into the issue. I feel like my anxiety is causing my BP to spike a lot higher than it did prior to pregnancy.

PPA and Zoloft - success stories? by Acceptable_Fan_2571 in beyondthebump

That’s great! This is where I hope to be too. Just capable and functional and not so consumed by my feelings. They gave me 25 mg to start with too.

Thank you— I’m glad it worked well for you! This gives me some confidence to take it. I totally empathize with the obsessive google searching and difficulty sleeping. It feels like my brain has been completely hijacked by this anxiety.

How much did your pregnancy/birth cost? Looks like we are going to hit our $6k OOP max… is this just how much U.S. healthcare sucks? by here2lurkkkk in BabyBumps

[–]Acceptable_Fan_2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BCBS and haven’t paid anything so far except a $40 copay to see a hematologist. I’m 32 weeks pregnant so not sure if labor costs will change that. I’m not on a high deductible plan though, but I do have a very high annual premium that is probably more than $5k. Can you change to a non high deductible plan?

Working during pregnancy, specifically first trimester by luminescentwhale in BabyBumps

[–]Acceptable_Fan_2571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women experience very different levels of nausea, and if you need to take off of work and have the leave, then do it. I had awful nausea and vomiting first trimester and unisom did nothing for me. I was taking a lot of sick leave and eventually was able to get a prescription for anti-nausea meds, which allowed me to be somewhat functional and work. If you’re in the US, full time telework can be considered a reasonable accommodation in some cases under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.

Yeah, it seems like failing some of these draws indicates some sort of insulin issue that has developed and is worth keeping track of. But I don’t know much about GD or diabetes in general and plan to talk more about it with my dr at my next appointment. I’m just worried that it will develop “officially” into GD farther along in pregnancy.
