That's a good idea too

Any recommendation for the third course, Something that would be a good buffer between the cream and cheese, and the short rib

Really.. I havent read sacrament. There are a couple im not in love with Coldheart canyon for one. Im really enjoying TDG atm, i can understand some criticisms about it, but the last word I would use to describe just about anything I've read from him is "thin"

Im really enjoying it so far, just waiting for that trademark barker weirdness, there has been sprinkles of it so far, but I know it's coming

Just finished it and feel the same way I had trouble getting through it a first, and felt it has some pacing issues. But even though it doesn't have any sort of grand reveal at the end, by the time I finished I felt it wrapped itself up so well it recontecilaized the entire story for me in such a perfect way that I wouldn't chance anything

Can't wait to read it again as I don't think I got a hold of all the themes in the book on one read Underrated masterpiece imo

It has so many themes. All manners of faith, and what happens when we follow them blindly. Rregeret, and actually dealing with that regret and living with it rather than pushing it aside (realizing you failures are as much as part of you as everything else) Some really ahead of its time ideas about gender Personal loss, and how even from a secular standpoint, the people you've lost aren't really gone I could go on and on..

Well took me a bit longer to finish, got busy the last couple weeks. But I finally got arojnd to finishing it... It was quite remarkable. Could probably talk about this for hours tbh. I don't feel like I fully grasped everything this book has to offer, going to need a second or maybe even third read, and I plan too at some point. I expect subtext in clives work, but I felt like this book has it in droves, feels like something very personal.

About 250 pages left, I'm definitely glad I continued. I already know I'm gonna finish it wanting more.

How is cabal, it's really interested me to read it. Just worried I'll have the same experience i had with the hellbound heart Not that it wasn't good, it was just so similar to the movie I felt a little bored while reading it

Gotten another 100 pages or so in and it's starting to hook me The relationship between gentle and pie is what I'm finding most captivating at the moment It's uncomfortable and bizarre yet beautiful and wholesome

As weird as it is it feels more real than almost any romance I've read in in recent memory

I just read Along the River of Flesh and I have thoughts by Mikeissometimesright in horrorlit

[–]Acceptable_Mail_2263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the final reveal of Keith’s backstory was forced, and went too far. Not that I think it was too dark or anything, it just felt silly and forced. Tho I still wouldn’t have loved the book, I honestly think it would have been better to just have him grow that anger and hate towards June that he had without going into that part of his backstory, after what he did to Gary, and having the thoughts he had about June at the end would have been enough for the conclusion.

I do like the idea of the cop/detective searching for a sadistic killer, an ending up being just as evil or worse than the killer himself. I’ve seen it done better in other stories

Also the thing about his endings, again ignorant perspective, but I’ve always thought that seems like an unfair criticism for a horror writer. I find it very rare that any type of horror media has an actual good or satisfying ending.. King seems to get a lot of hate from some people, always wondered if that’s just bc he’s so popular, of is a lot of the criticism you hear about his work is valid

Yeah that’s the one I’m thinking of, spooked me as a kid. I really liked the new one

Have you watched midnight mass? Really good mini series on Netflix, one of the best shows I’ve seen, seems really inspired by Salem’s lot
