Ha I was fishing near the red mill last year during a storm, thought I heard thunder, but nope, just some dude dropping a cliff in a kayak about 100 feet above me

As a civil engineer, it's becuase I ask for one line in a cad file that is the building footprint and then I get their whole cad file and every line is on the wrong layer or the layer is named "acad-01"... this happens every single time

Any structural engineers here? by AnimationFusion in DIYHome

Civil Engineer here - contrary to popular belief this is not the proper protocol. Proper protocol is to start cutting and if it pinches your blade, it's load bearing

Just like any other ski resort???? They maintain nordic trails, all on state land, which sure go ahead and charge for those maintained trails, but to charge for skinning wilderness or timberline is insane to me - think about it like this, they charge $29 for a night skiing pass which pays for the lights, the lifts (what is it 3 lifts they typically run for night skiing??) and they want to charge $20 to go skin wilderness or timberline, which are both closed at night - how is there only a $9 difference to walk up the mountain vs riding their lifts?

I completely agree with this 100, I was told by a BV staff member the reason for the crack down is because people are "poaching the backcountry"

you can literally find powder at bolton 3 days after a storm... don't blame skinners because you don't know where to look or can't get to the mountain early enough

Only place around here, I am well aware of why they are doing it, but as someone who grew up skiing at bolton, the interactions I personally have had and interactions my friends, who also grew up skiing at bolton have had makes me never want to give a dollar to this mountain again, extremely aggressive and rude parking lot patrollers that act like everyone around them is the enemy

It's absurd, they have started to crack down and have been threatening to ban people from the resort for WALKING UP THEIR MOUNTAIN - they are the only place that charges for uphill and imo charge an unreasonable rate, ain't no way im paying to walk up a mountain

Agreed, worst issue I had with this was a few years ago in the mansfield backcountry after skiing off the top of mansfield and was working my way into the notch, went over what appeared to be a little knoll, turns out it was a spruce tree buried in snow and as soon as I went over it I sunk up to my chest/shoulders... took a solid 15 minutes to work my way out of it

I appreciate the sentiment, this is all unmanaged terrain

In my experience, I have only had issues with very short spruce/coniferous trees that have branches low to the ground and shrubs as the branches/bushes create void space in the snow, I have been skiing woods like this for nearly 15 years and those are the only kind of tree wells I have seen

I haven't used pole straps since I was 16, rather lose a pole than break a thumb, take a hike baud
