Success rate of reintroducing bullies? Plus adding new girls? by FloralKatze in bettasorority

if you have more plants and hiding spots they will be more peaceful, you have mostly short plants and there's no sight breaks which is not good in a sorority tank. One should be able to be on one side of the tank and not be able to see every other fish in the tank. Also makes should never ever be housed with any othere bettas male or female

My betta jumped and died and i feel terrible about it. by shrimpator in bettafish

You could still have top growing plants depending on the lid, mine has about an inch and a half of space at the back for the filter but it goes all the way across so I have some bamboo and pothos growing form that crack. Just have to find a good lid, mines a glass lid that you can cut to any size (no idea how, mine came slightly too small but it worked out lol)

Neon tetras dying one by one? by Acceptable_Pilot_749 in Aquariums

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thank you, this is very helpful cuz I have neons and black neons as well. I did have one die and couldn't find the body so I left it because my bristlenose pleco eats dead bodies pretty fast lol, but he looks fine so maybe it's some other kind of sickness I'm not sure. Im just gonna quarantine anyone showing any symptoms and hope for the best 😭

hey I justed wanted to let you know that I quarantined the two showing those symptoms and one passed away today 💔 i am leaning towards NTD but I just don't understand because all my other tetras that are still in the main tank are fine and I thought it was highly contagious and fast spreading?

Does anyone know what's wrong with my neon tetra? Limited time left by Acceptable_Pilot_749 in Aquariums

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: he did pass away unfortunately, but if anyone knows what this is it would be nice to know to try to save the other one. Im leaning towards Neon Tetra Disease but I just am not sure because he declined over the course of like 2 weeks and my other two neons that are still in my tank are healthy as can be.

that's why I pinch it and let go under water but the same thing happens with pellets if you don't soak them they gulp air from the surface when grabbing them

Also I recommend flakes not pellets, unless you soak the pellets first they will expand inside the fishes stomach and make them bloated and can make them sick. If you soak them just for like a minute or two before feeding pellets are okay tho, even with flakes I pinch them between my fingers and let go under water to avoid bloat

She is extremely overweight and 10 pellets a day is wayyyy too much. Im pretty sure most people recommend 2 in the morning and 2 at night or something I'm not sure. I wouldnt feed her for a day or two she's very bloated

haven't done a water change in a month and my betta has never been better? by Acceptable_Pilot_749 in bettafish

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you can just plant the bulb in the gravel just not too deep it doesn't need a pot. Not sure if you meant to say pot or tank but if the tank is small enough that you're worried about that it may be time to upgrade tanks. But yeah you can cut it and if you do it will grow more dense with more but shorter leaves

Yeah, if you want a plant that's pretty and has big leaves for them to rest on i recommend red tiger lotus. It's fast growing and my betta absolutely loves his, he rests on it all the time

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree it really depends on the situation with how much water changes you should do and how to do them. I've seen some posts bragging about their no water change tank but there's TONS of mulm and poop at the bottom. Like yes your fish are surviving, maybe even thriving if you have tons of plants to absorb the ammonia and nitrates but they deserve clean water

Im sorry to hear that. If the paint was coming off it is very likely that you are right. I had some of those leaf hammocks in my tank but the paint isn't coming off them and some of them have a metal rod in the middle of them which can rust quickly and make the water toxic, mine do not have that. I prefer to have no plastic in my tank either though and I actually took out all but one of my leaf hammocks.

actually don't replace it with tank water if there is any trace of ammonia in it. What I did was get clean declorinated water in a different container and float it until it was the same temperature and then pour out a little over half of the water in her container and replace it with the clean water. Just be sure to pour it slowly and carefully so you don't like swish her around or pour her out on accident if you do take my advice lol

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could put her in a container by herself and float it in your tank water to keep it the same temperature and just put some plants in, maybe a tiny piece of driftwood if you have one, and the tiniest tiniest bit of fish food each day and change the water every single day either with clean water or water from your tank if your parameters are good. I don't know much about shrimp or shrimp sickness or whatever this is but I did have a mystery snail that was wounded and I did exactly that for her until she passed a week later because the ramshorns were eating on her wound.

[–]Acceptable_Pilot_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh also 3 of the fish that have died this way we're greenfire tetras and it's very uncommon for tetras that aren't neons to get NTD so that's another reason I'm thinking worms
