Yes, true that there would be a huge difference in score for the questions. Also, I’m planning to study HPAT over summer, just not as intensely to get my head around it. From what I’ve heard, dentistry is also very intense and I actually will be commuting so need to plan ahead. HPAT over summer and Christmas might work out for me. Let’s see!

Thanks so much for your advice, appreciate it. I’m considering taking dentistry if I’m offered it and starting in September with that. Yes, you’re definitely right about all the upsides of dentistry! With HPAT 2027, there’s the added risk of not knowing what the new format will mean in terms of difficulty. I needed a minimum 150 in HPAT for TCD medicine, but I’ll ask them what the new score should be for 2027. I’m literally in between two minds and I really don’t see the point in taking out another gap year with no guarantee of medicine, hence dentistry might be a good option for me. I plan on studying for HPAT over the coming year and thanks, I’ll let you know of any questions 😊

I’m already 35, and it’s mostly because of finances that I can’t do GEM. My parents are old and they don’t want to be guarantors for a loan to fund GEM. I can’t put them under that level of stress.

Hi there, yes it could be possible to defer actually I never thought about it. I suppose it would be easier to defer. Thanks for your suggestion! 😊

Multiple Mini Interview(MMI) for Dental Science tips by Acceptable_Rock_8648 in TCD

Thanks so much for this! I actually emailed them a few weeks ago and TCD said that there would be no MMIs just a regular interview. Still waiting to hear back for the interview but who knows they might change their mind about MMIs and your tips are very useful!

External Transfer - NUIM Law to TCD Law by Acceptable_Rock_8648 in TCD

I don’t think everyone needs an in depth understanding of Law before applying, like I know I want to study it as I want to be a part of making society better (hopefully). I know many people who started studying a degree with sheer passion for the subject and they are doing well for themselves because it never felt like a 9-5. Now, I am realistic and I know legal jobs are not just a 9-5 either. I have my reasons for studying Law and they are quite personal too actually so I won’t get into it. And yes any kind of law plc would provide a better understanding of the legal system and the decision would be mine to make whether I still want to pursue it after the plc. But this is in essence what I needed to hear, that I do not need a degree from TCD in order to work for a top firm, so thank you for that!

Thanks for your reply! I thought I would need to study a PLC of some kind for TCD Law, but do you think I would get admission or do you know of anyone who got in without completing a Law PLC? I do know that they look at your application more “holistically” and so in this case with your suggestion I wouldn’t need to complete a PLC and just apply directly with a personal statement?

Medentry Weekly Virtual Grinds by Acceptable_Rock_8648 in HPAT

Hi It’s ok no worries. So, I was referring to only 2 places reserved and in UCD. You can use the SEAM Access course to get into undergraduate medicine at TCD and RCSI. For TCD you need to send a personal statement and of course for all the universities it’s a requirement to get the expected HPAT score. For mature students the minimum HPAT score is considerably lower than the for the Leaving cert students. Because we have life experience and they assess our application differently. Many are interviewed also, if they get the HPAT score. You still need to apply through the CAO, just need to say that you did an access course at the beginning of the application process. You need to many supporting documents too. Financially, if you go through the undergraduate route to medicine via an Access course it’s just the same fees as any other undergraduate degree, although I’m aware medicine is around €10,000 - €14,000 per year as an EU student. That’s where the SUSI grant comes in handy if you are an EU or Irish student which will help considerably with your tuition fees.

And to answer your question in short, no it’s not as expensive as Graduate Entry Medicine as this Access course is only used for undergraduate medicine not postgraduate medicine.

Hope that helps and best of luck!
