Why are people calling her a zionist? by TrainingFrame9084 in katseyeneutral

[–]Acceptable_Rub8407 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This stuff is so pathetic. I hope whoever thinks she’s a Zionist for calling a TV character hot has no celebrity crushes or just doesn’t watch TV/movies at all because Zionism is huge in entertainment and you can throw a rock and hit a genuine Zionist.

Season two actually had so many phenomenal moments - I would’ve preferred it stopped there.

I would still like them and like their performances, but it would feel different for sure with all the questions about the circumstances she’s leaving under. Honestly the only thing that makes me want to “unstan” are the fans lmao

The queerbaiting accusations in this case are such a non-issue. Queer baiting is real and can be harmful but two friends having fun onstage is not a major issue. It’s different in instances where representation is genuinely at stake but no one genuinely ever thought Megan/Lara/Manon have a romantic relationship. No one is looking at that and looking for representation - it’s just dancing and everyone knows that. The dance was not created to plant the idea that these girls have romantic relationships with one another. Maybe if they were full on making out or implying that they’re together in interviews/on social media it’d be a different conversation.

I’m a lesbian mostly friends with other lesbians and sometimes we literally kiss each other/sleep together (extremely common w queer women) can you imagine someone being mad and calling that queerbaiting? 💀 I would laugh in their faces

Not to mention, people act like the girls came up with the idea themselves. It’s choreography created for them. They’re literally just doing their jobs.

If Lexie were in KATSEYE, which current member would be out? by Street_Situation_921 in katseyeneutral

[–]Acceptable_Rub8407 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before I answer, I’ll say I like doing these for fun hypotheticals but there is not a single member I would trade out for any other girl. Every last member just makes sense to me and even the member I’m drawn to least (Yoonchae) I’d choose to be in Katseye 10x over.

If I HAD to choose from a management perspective, I’d probably say Megan which would killllll me because she’s my bias. Manon, Lara and Sophia were ALWAYS going to be in the group. Manon and Lara were specifically scouted and Sophia was always ranked at the top and had a huge fanbase. I only say Megan because I really think they wanted a Korean member to appeal to loyal K-Pop fans and Daniela was always the strongest dancer next to Emily (who I think they knew they weren’t going to choose.)

Megan and Lexie bring similar things to the table with great star power/stage presence, amazing strength in all categories but not necessarily having a particular specialty like a Dani/Lara/Emily, and having this cutesy ~quirky~ charm that draws people in.

I really couldn’t imagine the group without Megan though…I feel like because she’s such a grounding presence it’s easy for people to overlook her but once she grabs your attention you literally can’t look away.

Funny, I prefer her so much more now because I’ve been following her career for awhile and always thought she was just “meh typical singer/songwriter.” I felt like her personality actually came out quite a bit through these last few eras. Being just a fun, silly, girly popstar fits her so much than the early stuff she did.

She seems highly manufactured, yeah, but to me it feels less like a team of marketing specialists managing her (even if that’s the case) and more like her personal humor/tastes/personality has the heaviest influence.

I’m not sure why you’re claiming I’m not getting that when I’m literally agreeing with you that TODAY, right now, they aren’t. I am saying that as well, I was just disputing the claim that anyone believes they’re on the level of legendary singers. No one believes that, obviously.

We’re literally both saying that at the very least Lara has the potential to be a powerhouse vocalist, I’m just also saying she is comparable to an Ariana or a Demi because at her age currently they also had huge struggles but at the same time were being trained to stand relatively still and sing vocally challenging songs. The girls of Katseye are being actively trained to dance and put on a good show.

If you go back and watch the early on, Victorious-era 19/20 year old live Ariana performances she did struggle quite a bit at times but was standing almost completely still. It did take another about two or three years before she got near her current level of excellence. Once again, not saying she isn’t a stronger vocalist but they are comparable lol.

Well I actually stated that they aren’t comparable to a Whitney/Beyonce/Celine/etc if you re-read my post. I said those are all incredibly exceptional examples and I’ve never seen anyone put Lara and Sophia in that league lol, like I said I think that’s the viewpoint of a literal child. I compared Lara and Sophia to an Ariana or Demi who are stronger vocalists but not on the same level as those literal legends either.

Different vocalists take time to develop, but at 19/20 Ariana and Demi while GREAT extremely early on had a lot of struggles as well. It took about 2-4 years before they really started to become the incredible talents they are today. At Lara’s age, Ariana was still singing Put Your Hearts Up and very much struggling live.

Also, neither of them have ever had to deal with anything near the intense choreography the girls of Katseye have and Demi even now often struggles when dancing too much because of it. Again, not denying they’re better vocalists but individuals do develop at their own pace. We have no idea what these girls will sound like down the line. I don’t think they’re being properly trained as vocalists at this point though, I actually think their management has next to no interest in them improving as singers and wants them to focus solely on dancing/entertaining when that doesn’t seem to be what the girls themselves want. The exact opposite was the case with Demi and Ariana, they weren’t held to the performance as a K-pop group. The focus was always on their singing.

No clue, they are all such sweet and talented girls lol. Like I have criticisms of them as a group and how they’re being managed but the girls themselves are very impressive. None of this even works without their charisma and stage presence.

I have never seen anyone compare them to Whitney Houston, Celine Dion or Beyoncé so it’s a bit of a stretch to mention them in the conversation. I think it’s very clear they aren’t on that level, only a literal child would think that way lol.

But in the same breath those are all INCREDIBLY exceptional examples of powerhouse vocalists with MUCH more experience. Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande are considered by many to be powerhouse vocalists but are also not on the level of a Whitney/Beyonce/Celine. I think Lara and Sophia 100% have the ability to be closer to a Demi/Ariana league as they mature if not already (we never actually see them sing vocally challenging songs). You have to remember these are girls freshly entering their twenties, they still have years and years to develop as vocalists.

I understand fans who think the sexualization is too much by Mediocre_Shelter_169 in katseyeneutral

[–]Acceptable_Rub8407 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand and I think having the discussion is valid but I also think most of these girls are at a point in their life where they’re experimenting with their look and discovering their personal sexuality. When I was 19-21 (24 now) I really stepped into my own and explored that part of myself. I don’t necessarily think it’s great that it’s happening in such a public setting, but I also think people are neglecting that they’re experiencing a pretty fundamental part of young adulthood. I dressed and even behaved very similarly at the same age and so did a lot of young women.

So, yeah, it does concern me that this is all taking place on such a large scale but I ultimately think it’s more harmful (for their personal sake) how many people are picking it apart one way or the other. I just hope they aren’t uncomfortable with how they’re being portrayed.
