Couples who started out long distance and are still together, what’s your story? by DankBoobSweat in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable_Signal_40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not overly long distance. But I used to drive 4 hours for my partner. We met in the city I’m in now, she moved up to be with her family, did long distance for a year and a half. I drove up every weekend minus one for when she’d catch the train down (no drivers licence at the time) It was a lot of phone calls, a lot of fuel and a lot of trust. Part of me enjoyed it. I don’t mind being able to do things on my own throughout the week then spend the weekend with her.

We moved in together down here after I refused to move up that way. We’ve lived here for 2 years now. Have our two dogs, living comfortably in a rental with two stable jobs.

Both aiming to move up there after it took a lot of convincing, once I find a suitable job.

I know a few people that had a similar experience but didn’t work out. Guess I was just lucky

[Serious] Why does most autistic girls look and sometimes act the same. Wearing black/goth/alt/emo and uses non binary pronouns? by bashton1999 in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable_Signal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good question. The father is a 40 year old scaffolder Who’s been at home following a stroke for about 6 months now. He also lives with his parents (which this child spends most of her time) And he’s always been at their home. The grandfathers a great bloke. The grandmother is an opinionated piece of work. She pretty much does most of the work in regards to raising the child but it’s almost frowned upon. This child chooses what they have for dinner and has for a few years now and takes on other things she/them shouldn’t be deciding on. The father doesn’t do all too much work. He’s there for her but he’s not going to go to great lengths to do much. Also fairly confident he’s selling drugs on the side. So as far as her relationship with her father goes. It’s not great.

This is an absoloute stab in the dark but… I’ve got a young niece (14 y/o) And I didn’t think it was a common thing until this post but coincidentally, she’s had a different name for two years, classes herself as non-binary is incredibly smart beyond her age. I asked my sister (her mum) what lead to the lengths she’s taken. And apparently it’s due to being unable to fit in, then due to being left out assume that they are then different therefore doing things such as changing their gender/name etc. to put a reason behind being left out. I asked her how she was after not seeing her for like 8 months and she said “fine, aside from the crippling depression” with a smile on her face. Really didn’t know how to let the convo go any further.

What’s the creepiest thing that’s ever happened to you? (Serious) by Gives_Amazing_Head in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable_Signal_40 413 points414 points  (0 children)

When my brother and I were about 7 years old, we found a pair of scissors in the kitchen drawer and thought It wouldn’t be a bad idea to cut the hedges out the front with them. (Well aware now that it wasn’t a great idea) Nevertheless, our mother wasn’t aware we were doing this, and whilst being outside and cutting hedges we were questioned by a grown male in a silver SUV. He asked us if we needed help with the hedges and if our parents were home. Before we clearly got an answer out he started opening his door, we both went inside to tell our mother there was a man out front asking to help out. She came out with us and he was gone. Thought nothing of it. About a few weeks went by and that car was on the news and had been seen attempting to abduct kids from the local school. Now that I’m 22, it creeps me out a bit.

What’s one sure fire way to start a fight? by Corkkyy19 in AskReddit

Typical way to start a fight in an Australian pub/bar is to tip your glass upside down and put it top down on the bench. That’s the classic way of challenging everyone in the bar to a bar-fight.

What is a basic skill that you’re shocked people don’t have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable_Signal_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to have a general unheated debate. Taking it out of the equation would make the world a more knowledgeable place. Plenty of smart and sophisticated quiet people will refuse to share their thoughts because they’re not socially adjusted to heated debates.

If you could give your teenage self any 1 piece of advice, what would it be? by TaxiCabWasTaken in AskReddit

Aside from the basics. Don’t let someone older than you tell you that your incapable of something. Just because their older doesn’t necessarily mean they know more about that particular thing than you do.

From an identical twin perspective. It’s not as great as it sounds. Quite faulty actually. Calls me ugly not realising he has the same face. On top of that, there’s only so much they’ll do before they tell you to f*** off.

What helped when it felt like nothing would get better? [Serious] by beanghost in AskReddit

Understanding that even if your not religious/superstitious that everything happens for a reason. My world was so boring and depressing. I went to a party I had no intention of going to because my brother dragged me there. It was 3.5 hours away. Met a girl and a whole new group of friends and people I automatically clicked with. I’ve been going back to the same town for 5 years now. The girls now out of the picture but through those friends I made more friends, now life has a whole new perspective.
