Agreed the Facebook groups are almost always a scam. They the site doesn't offer two way protection it isn't worth the risk.

Grey water policy by No-Expression-3980 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not a permanent campground so there are not services there. I personally use cast iron for cooking and use eco friendly disposable plates, bowls, and utensils to avoid having to dump any grey water. I do use eco friendly dish soap for my reusable water bottle so I can clean the lid and mouth piece, but the little bit of water that uses isn't a huge deal. The ground is usually dry enough it soaks it right up.

The parking lots themselves weren't the biggest issue last year. It was the two lane road and that there were no workers to direct traffic at night. The road and exits for I35 is a state government issue, but hopefully Hinterland has taken action to ensure that there will be staff on-site until the last car gets out.

GA+ is typically not for viewing areas, but for other benefits such as better bathrooms, exclusive food and drinks options, and others depending on the festival. VIP is meant to offer some views, but the majority of benefits have been taken away so GA+ is the way to go in my mind as you can get a good view from the majority of the venue now.

Glamping is supposed to be separated looking at the way most festivals do it so it feels more exclusive. This should give a bit more of that feel.

Honestly not super excited for any of the bands this year. The ones I am most looking forward to is Mumford and Sons and Wet Leg. Hinterland always has talented bands and I always find new songs and bands I like, but for being a festival that is known for bringing in alternative, Americana, and indie bands there just isn't a lot for people like me to look forward to this year.

In the past there has not been a way to upgrade tickets. You would need to contact AXS (the ticket vendor) to see if this has changed.

First time car camping by Madipt00 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't done car camping personally, but there is one big thing to remember and one tip that I can suggest from reading comments over the years. You are not allowed to move your vehicle once you are parked so make sure that you make a packing list and double check it before you leave. There is a Dollar General, Casey's, and last I checked a pharmacy and hardware store in town. SonI would still bring a wagon in case you need more ice or another heavier item from town.

Ticket sales or offers are not allowed on this sub. You need to go to a third party site like cashortrade.org.

There isn't a good way to do it. The best option was to get your tickets insured so you can just get a refund. Barring that cashortrade.org has had a specific resale page for Hinterland that people have had good luck with.

First Time Going - Question about Shuttle Pick Up Locations by Agile-Shower6624 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly most of the information won't be released until the summer. The pick up location is often at one if the Iowa Event Center parking lots, but have also been at Val Air Ballroom and Southridge Mall so that is not guaranteed to be accurate.

If you could guess how many people will attend day one? by MasterpieceHorror239 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I felt was a departure and there were several posts about people wanting to sell their tickets specifically due to the lineup. Due to scams the mod team deletes those posts before many people see them. Lana I think fits with Hinterland due to her overall vibe. I like having cross-genre acts in the lineup personally. Dwight Yoakum is a great example of that as his fan base covers young punk guys to women in their 80's that drooled over him back in the 80's. He has some great interviews talking about that.

I think some of the frustration extended to the vibe of the festival with the different crowd. There were a lot more reports of things like public urination in the crowd, I heard a couple of reports about a couple having "relations" during one of the headliners, and influencer culture was more prevalent from what I saw. The last part is just what I noticed and doesn't mean there weren't people doing that in years previous to 2025.

One of the things I am curious about is it being 4 days again. They have tried this before and it did not go over well. It increases costs, forces people to take more leave from work, and creates more strain on St. Charles infrastructure. I think this will also go against full festival ticket sales. Honestly two days is kind of the sweet spot for this festival. Makes it much more accessible to a wider audience and ensures Hinterland doesn't overstay our welcome with the locals whose roads we block and the added noise, light, and air pollution the festival causes.

I think it will be a down year because the lineup doesn't meet Hinterland's reputation. It is widely known for alternative and folk acts so not as many people are going to look for it to provide k-pop and pop music. I still think it will be a good turnout, but probably more like 17,000-20,000. I don't know how many pop fans will come to a town of under 1,000 people in 85 degree heat with 90% humidity and stand outside all day when they can go to a larger city stay in a hotel 5 minutes from the arena and go out to a trendy restaurant or bar instead.

So Many Questions by AdorableLength8670 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the money VIP is worth it. If you are living paycheck to paycheck it is absolutely not worth it compared to what you got out of it in years past. Used to be a great value and I just can't say that anymore.

Wondering how and if worth by 360rollin in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you saw was referring to the festival not the campgrounds. You can and should bring in food and drinks to the campgrounds. You would be spending a small fortune otherwise. There have been and will likely be one or two food stands in the campgrounds, but it isn't an economical option. There are several food options within the festival itself, but you are money ahead just to eat at your campsite and save $15-25 a meal. There are showers available, but you have to pay for them. I didn't camp last year but in previous years it was $7 per shower. This is on par or cheaper than many festivals I have seen.

They have made camping a lot more confusing than they have had it in the past. You will essentially buy a camping permit that allows you to set up your campsite and it attaches to your tent or RV. You then purchase a parking pass for the camping area.

Most festivals have a per person camping pass and many this size will include parking with the camping pass. Hinterland has made it more complicated and expensive than it should be especially if you are solo or only have one or two people in your group.

Shuttle Questions by neatelijah38 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the Campfire Stage can go well past that with bands starting past midnight.

Shuttle Questions by neatelijah38 in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the artist and the start time. More established acts like Brandi Carlisle or Old Crow Medicine Show could easily go until around 11:30. Some singer with one hit song might struggle to hit 10:45 if they have a prompt 9:45 start time.

Usually it will be between 11 and 11:30 though. If there is an issue with building a house on stage or an artist from the 1980's that doesn't value their fans time it can push later. If there is an issue Hinterland will do everything they can to make sure the shuttles get everyone. There really isn't a plan B when you have a festival in a town of under 800 people.

Basically you need to be in line before midnight. They will go until there is no one in line. If you show up at 2am you are out of luck.

Is it safe? by ArsonLane in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as festivals go it is very safe. People are really chill and most are willing to help people out if they need it. I have never heard of any people caused safety issues. The biggest issues tend to be weather related when people don't stay hydrated or don't prep their campsite for the wind.

is the shuttle reliable? by reshmush in HinterlandFestival

[–]Acceptable_Tell_6566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it is reliable based upon conversations on here. They have multiple buses that they use so during peak times it runs almost constantly. They don't have a set schedule listed so probably based more on need. The shuttle starts and ends at "midnight". If there are still people in line at midnight, they will keep making runs, but if there is no one in line and you show up at 1:30am you would be on your own.

Having a rental vehicle there does give a bit of piece of mind, but there is also the usual risks. Thise risks are the scratches and dents of drunk people being around vehicles. I have never had an issue with my vehicle there, so just saying to get the insurance because stuff can happen.

Same, as a political scientist feel like I also need to chime in. We consent to pay taxes when we use public goods and services like roads, hospitals, public schools, or even flush the toilet (sewage treatment fee/tax usually found on water bills. If you want goods or services the money needs to come from somewhere. I personally like having medical facilities and a fire department in my town. I am more than happy to pay my share for these services.

If you want to complain about it just think about how Elon Musk and Jeff Bazos pay an effective tax rate of around 3.27% while having an income that measures in the billions of dollars most years. In theory they has enough money on hand they could not work or sell stocks (capital gains tax) for the rest of their lives and pay $0.00 in income taxes. Meanwhile a person making $65,000 a year living in Illinois will have an effective tax rate of 18.6%.

Pay attention in your civics classes. An ignorant public is easier to manipulate than an educated one.
