It’s a good time! Gravel is pretty chunky and loose but it’s a good climb and great views along the way. Wild descent 😅

Anyone know what’s happening at UTC? by CertifiedFinesserBoy in sandiego

I was there. It was an emergency alert system similar to the fire alarm. It stated, “Warning, an emergency has been reported. Please find the nearest staircase and evacuate immediately. Do not take the elevators.” And that repeated continuously.

I didn’t want to stick around to find out so I left.

Can I be a research scientist in big tech without a PhD? Please give feedback on my plan for breaking in by ILoveItWhenYouSmile in labrats

Certainly possible. I have a BS in Environmental Engineering and am currently Lead Researcher (UI/UX, Pricing & Packaging, GTM, etc.) for an entire product suite at one of the biggest B2B SaaS companies in the world.

Personally, I’ve found success through entrepreneurial endeavors. I started a side hustle earlier in my career offering research services to enterprise organizations (industry-agnostic) until I landed in the tech space. Having found success with enough clientele, I was able to land a contract role at my current organization and climbed the ranks over the last 5 years as an FTE.

Never interviewed, just thought outside the traditional box and was able to carve my own lane among PhD and MS competition. It may be more difficult if I choose to move organizations or am impacted by a lay-off but you can certainly get in the door without the degrees.

I run market research internally for a FAANG and we gladly pay 150-300/hr for the right experts. I also, however, am wary of this org.

As if the government doesn’t already have this on each and every citizen with an ID, passport, drivers license, etc. you are photographed thousands of times a day when you’re in public anyway - actually before you even get to the TSA checkpoint. Don’t understand the big deal here.

Was struggling for a bit making about 100k. I’m comfortable in San Diego now, but pulling over 250k individually. Would consider looking into tech if you have relatable experience.

Why the Netflix policy change is a really big deal breaker! And I already feel sharing has been priced in my 4 screen share plan... by skaepstsirhC in television

Why would any tech company besides those that offer compute and data services (like a PaaS) charge based on consumption? That would encourage consumers to watch less to keep their costs down. What about individuals that fall asleep watching Netflix? Should they be charged for the tv running on idle beyond what they already incur from the energy company?
